Kevin Lyndel Massey, a leader of the American Patriots group of armed citizens patrolling the border for undocumented immigrants, was arrested on Monday in Brownsville on federal weapons charges.
"There was a federal arrest warrant for him," said Frank Ortega, resident agent in charge of the Brownsville Field Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. "We located him at a hotel and took him into custody without incident."
Massey, 48, was arrested by agents for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to KGBT.
Massey, who is from North Texas, was convicted of burglary in 1988. After an initial appearance in court on Tuesday he was denied bond until a Friday hearing.
