Border Patrol Union Leader: NYT Wrong on Our Trump Endorsement

The New York Times got its facts wrong in a scathing editorial about the National Border Patrol Council's decision to endorse Donald Trump's bid for the GOP presidential nomination, union President Brandon Judd said Thursday.

"I realize it's an op-ed, but you would think that the editors would have at least fact-checked the things that were written," Judd complained to Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"That article is littered with just flat-out untruths."

The editorial came out earlier this week after the union, which represents nearly 17,000 border patrol agents, announced it was supporting Trump, and Judd took particular offense with a statement from the paper's editorial board commenting that most of the 11 million unauthorized immigrants living in the United States are "not criminals, don't think or behave like criminals, and deserve a chance to stay, as immigrants have always done."

"I'd love to know where they got those facts from," Judd said Thursday. "Every week we're hearing atrocious stories about people who came here illegally that are committing crimes against the citizens of this country."

The Times editorial board also wrote that illegal immigration "has been falling for years" with more Mexicans leaving the country than entering.

"President [Barack] Obama, far from abandoning immigration enforcement, has deported more people — more than 2 million — more quickly than his predecessors," the editorial said.

But Judd disagreed, saying the numbers "continue to increase each year," and pushed back on the newspaper's editors for saying the border patrol agents, who are paid by taxpayer dollars, demonstrated "monumental dimness" with their endorsement.

"We have the First Amendment rights to voice our opinions," said Judd. "Border patrol agents, whether they're paid by taxpayers or not, they have the right to voice their opinions."

The New York Times is no longer the "times of New York", it's no longer an American newspaper. It's swathed, shrouded and dripping with foreign loans, foreign ownership and foreign interests. It's a sad thing to witness. When I was in college majoring in International Relations with a minor in Economics, the suggested best reading for these issues the professors said was the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. And they were then. But much has happened through the years, and today I rate them as equal to the National Enquirer.

It's such a shame, too. Americans need responsible journalism andan honest unbiased free press. We've done well through the years because we had it and would fight to protect it. They've lost their professionalism, their mission and fallen into the cess pool of foreign bias, incompetence and self-promotion.
