He's talking about merit-based legal immigration, not merit-based illegal immigration.

Yes Judy, a merit based legal immigration system. And he answers the question about legal status for those illegal aliens brought here as children with a wait and we will see for a couple of months.

I wish he would be clear and simply say that we must follow our laws and over the years many people have been hurt on both sides of the issue because they were ignored. I wish he would say, I will be President of the United States and those of us in the government must first do what is best for the American people. There will be consequences for breaking immigration laws.

He's trying hard to avoid riots and violence, GeorgiaPeach. This will all take good management. We have to remember that there are 30 million illegal aliens in the US. Trump understands the security issue this poses. It's why he appointed a General to head up DHS. It's why he has been so supportive of Border Patrol, ICE, Law Enforcement and our Armed Forces. Solving this problem has to be done quickly and quietly.

When he says he wants the "DREAMERS to be our children also", he's talking about our citizen children having the opportunity to dream and have better futures.

When he says the plan will "be firm but have a lot of heart", it means firm but humane as in I think families are deported as "single units" "intact", no one left behind. When he talks about merit-based, he's talking about new immigrants coming in. He wants all these illegal aliens off of tax credit welfare, public assistance, food stamps, education, Medicaid, Obamacare, and so forth because he wants to balance our budget.

We'll really just have to wait and see.
