BREAKING: Gutierrez Won’t Run For Reelection

Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Illinois, a leading progressive voice on immigration, is expected to announce his retirement Tuesday.

Gutierrez, one of President Donald Trump’s most ardent critics and a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, is expected to withdraw his nominating petitions Tuesday just one day after initially filing them, Politico reports.

The decision seems to have been made recently as Gutierrez’s spokesman, Douglas Rivlin told Politico he had not been informed of the news.

“I don’t know anything. I don’t know anything,” Rivlin said late Monday.

Gutierrez is a leading progressive immigration reform advocate and was arrested while protesting Trump’s decision to rollback the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) provision in August. The long serving Illinois lawmaker has also joined a number of his colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee in calling for Trump’s impeachment.

Ahead of his official announcement, Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia and Chicago Alderman Carlos Ramirez Rosa have already expressed interest in taking Gutierrez’s seat, which he’s held since 1993. The newcomers have just one week to file the 800 signatures required for inclusion on the ballot.

You beat me to it lorrie. I just saw this on Fox News. We're finally going to get rid of trouble maker Luis Gutierrez. Some of the best news I heard in a long time. I'm betting the illegals here in the Chicago area are a little more worried now that they're going to lose their number one cheerleader. Hee Hee......The Six Million Dollar Man is rubbing his hands together and grinning.

When I first heard this tonight on Fox News, I was elated. Of course then I came on here and read the above. Probably just trading one illegal immigrant activist politician for another. Of course I guess that's to be expected coming out of Chicago.

But tonight he announced he was retiring.

Gutierrez will not disclose why he is retiring.

The announcement was a surprise to everyone.

And there is NOTHING on his Twitter page about his announcement.

Gutierrez will announce his retirement on Tuesday.

Thankfully Gutiérrez is reportedly dropping his bid for re-election and may announce the news tomorrow https://twitter.com/politicalshort/s...42696570306561

Now he will have more time to protest for open borders and get arrested.
