They should have been standing up for WE THE PEOPLE during THE SESSION Not After.
They would say behavior like this could be expected of those who support Ron Paul or even the Constitution Party but certainly not Republicans using showmanship pandering for votes.
Why did they not stand up and shout against FISA and the criminal activties of the phone comapnies and George Bush? Where were they when our freedoms were being stripped away?
I'll tell you, they were the ones supporting those actions.
So they can stuff their little show this American Independent Registered Voter isn't buying it.

That's your prerogative. However, constant negativity doesn't do much for morale. IMHO, when the right thing is being done, regardless of whether it is coming from Republicans or Democrats, we need to offer our encouragement and praise (of course the opposite needs to happen when they're wrong). I don't believe any political party is wrong 100% of the time, and they certainly aren't right 100% of the time. :wink:Quote:

Is it just coincidence that liberal and libertarian leaners are the ones showing negativity over this so-called revolt? Honestly, we Republicans (yes there are some of us on ALIPAC :D ) are elated that our party has chosen to bring public attention to the gas price issue, so please don't rain on our parade. Unfortunately, we seldom get the opportunity to be enthusiastic and proud. :D
Look if it wasn't for Republicans last year and a few Dem's we would have amnesty for 20 million illegals right now. Sure we have traitors in our party and true conservatives hate McCain but the liberal left that is controlling the House and the Senate can do enormous damage if Republicans can't filibuster. Go take a look at the final vote tally for S.1639 and you will see what I am talking about. :wink:Quote:

Now had the Republicans stood up while in session and bucked the rules and had their say, it would be a whole other story.
Thanks Gogo. That fixed it.Quote:

By the way, no one made the Democrats go home. They could have stayed and attempted to work out a compromise that would have been agreeable to both parties. Direction from the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, is all it would have taken.
I saw Senator Corker and Senator Landrieu on Hannity tonight. They have gang of 10. Five on each side of the isle who have knocked out a compromise to get us drilling here. She is totally against Pelosi and her stubbornness.

Good, maybe it's a start. We'll see how it plays out. A compromise is exactly what's needed. The Democrats need to allow more drilling and the Republicans need to help enact law that will help to cut down on speculation. :wink:Quote:

Like I said before too little too late. They should have disrupted the regular session if they really wanted to make an impact but they didnt do that. The cowards waited until after the session ended to flex their muscles.
I am positive that both Democrats and Republicans will loose seats during this election and members from the Constitution Party will be elected.
We have had a democrat or Republican in charge since 1829, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. People who want REAL CHANGE will ignore both parties and move on to a party which hold true to the fundamental principles in which our nation was founded.
When the Republicans were in charge of the House, they did more to strip us of our rights than any other previous congress. Military Commissions Act, Patriot Act, Real ID, and they tried to pass Amnesty for the illegals. let us also know that they worked real hard to destroy our manufacturing base even further than NAFTA already had and gave us the finger after doing it.

They were trying to push the Democrats in session but Pelosi wouldn't have none of it.

UPDATE> Pelosi: At-risk Dems back drilling
California Democrat Nancy Pelosi may be trying to save the planet — but the rank and file in her party increasingly are just trying to save their political hides when it comes to gas prices as Republicans apply more and more rhetorical muscle.
But what looks like intraparty tension on the surface is part of an intentional strategy in which Pelosi takes the heat on energy policy, while behind the scenes she’s encouraging vulnerable Democrats to express their independence if it helps them politically, according to Democratic aides on and off Capitol Hill.
Pelosi’s gambit rests on one big assumption: that Democrats will own Washington after the election and will be able to craft a sweeping energy policy that is heavy on conservation and fuel alternatives while allowing for some new oil drilling. Democrats see no need to make major concessions on energy policy with a party poised to lose seats in both chambers in just three months — even if recess-averse Republicans continue to pound away on the issue.
“The reality is we will have a new president in three months, and what Bush and the Republicans are trying to do amounts to a land grab for the oil companies,â€
What I don't understand is why are they allowed to take 9 months of vacation time out of a whole entire year in the first place? No other job in this country could you do this. What do they do in the 3 months they supposedly work other than screw our country all to hell? They wonder why their approval ratings are in the toilet.
Actually, thee is one other job that does this. My friend is the general manager for a tax preparation service. She works like a dog from December to April, then only works two days a week the rest of the year. And I might add, this is a salaried job, with benefits.Quote:

They didnt have to put on a show the last day of session, they could have done that any other day but they didnt. Just showmanship. They are a bunch of jackalopes.

In this case I feel the Republicans are doing what they have to do to get Pelosi's attention.
She has been on such a power trip she thinks she doesn't have to listen to anyone about anything.
Actually on Neal Cavuto's show Pelosi was outed. She is telling her Democrats to go home and tell their constituents that they are for drilling but she won't let it come to a vote. She's actually telling them to lie to their constituents so their seats are safe.Quote:

House GOP Refuses to Take Summer Vacation without a Vote on Energy, Stages Week-Long Sit-in on House Floor
August 5, 2008
Last Friday, August 1st, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) adjourned the House of Representatives for the five-week August recess after refusing to allow Congress to vote on legislation to increase the supply of American-made energy and to address the high price of gas.
Just after the lights and the microphones were turned off in the House gallery and C-Span had stopped its live coverage, dozens of Republican Members, led by Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN), Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO), and Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), delivered a letter to Speaker Pelosi demanding that she call the House back into an emergency session this month to debate and vote on this issue. They then proceeded to loudly debate the energy issue in front of hundreds of U.S. citizens, who they freely welcomed into the House gallery to listen and participate. Some representatives even received standing ovations from the crowd after they concluded their off-the-cuff but passionate speeches.
Since no media or cameras are allowed in the House gallery because Congress is technically "out of session," GOP Members and staff have sent out "A Call to Action on American Energy" to encourage all interested American taxpayers who happen to be in the Washington, D.C. area, even if they are just visiting as tourists, to come to the House floor this week to lend their support by listening and by voicing their concerns in front of dozens of Congressmen.
Remember, democracy doesn't work unless you participate! If you want Congress to reconvene this month and to address the energy issue before the summer is over, the Congressmen pushing this debate are urging you to take action in any or all of the following ways:
Attend the open debate in the House gallery if you happen to be in the Washington, D.C. area.
Report on what you see after you attend, since the press is restricted from the event.
Blog, blast email alerts, call reporters, write op-eds in your local newspapers, etc. and let your family and friends know what is going on.
Flood Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office phone lines with calls, asking her to call Congress back to D.C. for an emergency session.

Boss Tweed Pelosi Shuts of the Lights on the Energy Debate

What America's Daughters Need To Know About Nancy Pelosi
By Michelle Malkin
Wednesday, August 6, 2008
The Democratic Speaker of the House and a co-author hired to try to add flavor to bland Beltway establishment oatmeal have penned a self-help book for "America's daughters" to help them "Know Your Power." It's a dreadfully pedestrian text ("As long as we recognize the power within us, we will continue to have choices, and we will continue to lead."), surpassed in its dreadfulness only by the timing of its publication.
With congressional approval ratings at an all-time low and the Democratic Congress under fire for taking a five-week vacation instead of working on energy policy, perhaps this wasn't the best time to send Nancy Pelosi jetting from coast to coast to tell our daughters how to save the planet, manage our households and run our government.
Sorry, Nan. There aren't enough carbon offsets to compensate for this tree-wasting dud and its accompanying gas-guzzling, hot air-emitting publicity tour.
Intended to inspire young women to public service, Pelosi's preachy tome ("Courage springs from the heart.") stands in stark contrast to her refusal to stay and work this summer in Washington on a host of energy bills and drilling proposals. "Know Your Power" merely underscores the true message of Pelosi's actions (or rather, inaction): "Do as I say, not as I do."
While Madame Speaker advises America's daughters to "never draw a line in the sand," she refuses to return to Washington and allow up-or-down votes on Republican energy proposals.
While Madame Speaker advises America's daughters "to defend your position with facts," she has demonstrated blinking ignorance about the price of gas in her own district and the laws of supply and demand.
While Madame Speaker advises America's daughters to "treat one another in a civil way," she has resorted to business-as-usual demagoguery against her ideological opponents. Over the weekend, Pelosi denounced the conservative revolt on the House floor last week -- an objection to the Democrats' five-week recess -- as "a war dance of the handmaidens of the oil companies."
While Madame Speaker advises America's daughters that "you have to know what you're talking about, you can't grandstand," she gave a pitiful performance on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" when pressed to explain her stonewalling of up-or-down votes on energy bills.
In classic grandstanding style, Pelosi mischaracterized GOP proposals as drilling-only, blustered about drilling not having an immediate effect on lowering gas prices, criticized Republicans for not divining the right parliamentary moves to get their legislative plans through, and then sniffed imperiously that "they'll have to use their imagination as to how they can get a vote."
Spoken like a true leader filled with "courage," fueled by "passion" for public service and driven by her caring for struggling families feeling the impact of high-energy costs and limited access to American oil.
Assailing Republican bills as "diversionary," Pelosi spent 10 painful minutes attempting to divert a simple question:
Pelosi: This is a diversionary tactic from failed energy policies.
Stephanopoulos: But if you feel you have the better arguments, why not give a straight up or down vote for drilling?
Pelosi: Because the misrepresentation is being made that this is going to reduce the price at the pump. This is, again, a decoy. It's not a solution.
Stephanopoulos: Well, if you're right, why not let it be debated out and have the vote?
Pelosi: We have a debate every single day on this subject.
Except on the House floor, where Pelosi forbade debate on GOP amendments and where the lights and cameras have been darkened to prevent debate.
Rather than exercise her power responsibly by calling lawmakers back to the Capitol to address Americans' concerns about gas prices and energy independence, Pelosi has dismissed oil and gas drilling as a "hoax" -- even as she reportedly encourages vulnerable Democrats to embrace drilling to bolster their electoral prospects. In 2006, she blamed a Republican congress for high gas prices. In power for 19 months, Madame Speaker now blames the Republican minority for gas prices that have nearly doubled.
Nancy Pelosi's real lesson for America's daughters: Women in power are just as capable of mastering Washington double talk, blame avoidance and partisan hackery as are men.
Imagine that.
