Republican Carlos Gutierrez, the Secretary of Commerce for George W. Bush's second term, said English should not be the official language of the U.S. government on Sunday.

Speaking on a panel on CNN's "State of the Union," Gutierrez said Republicans should lead on "comprehensive immigration reform" and the DREAM Act, while getting rid of "things like English as the official language of government."

Gary Bauer, also on the panel to discuss the road ahead for the Republican party, jumped in and claimed Gutierrez was spouting nonsense.

"Seventy-five percent of the American people believe that English, sir, is the official language of the United States," Bauer said. "I don't understand why you would jettison 75%... in the idea that it's going to get you votes."

Top Republican: U.S. needs 1 million more immigrants, not less

Carlos Gutierrez, Commerce secretary under former President George W. Bush, said that without more immigrants, businesses won't be able to grow because there aren't enough workers available. And helping them could boost the Republican Party, added the former Kellogg Co. executive.
Speaking at a Republican confab, he said that comprehensive immigration reform passed in the Senate and rejected by House GOP leaders doesn't go far enough to help fill the jobs gap.

Prominent Pro-Amnesty GOP Super PAC Raises No Money in First Quarter

A prominent super PAC of key allies of President George W. Bush and failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney, formed to give Republicans who support amnesty legislation air cover, failed to raise any money during the first quarter of this year.

Carlos Gutierrez, the former Bush Commerce Secretary, and Charlie Spies, the co-founder of Restore Our Future, which was the biggest pro-Romney super PAC, formed the Republicans For Immigration Reform super PAC "to provide political support for Republican candidates" backing comprehensive immigration reform.

According to its Federal Election Commission report, which was filed on April 15 and covers the period from January 1, 2014 to March 31, 2014, the group raised no money during the first quarter of this year. It had just over $11,000 cash on hand at the beginning of the quarter and now has just under $1,700 on hand after spending $9,875 last quarter. The group also has no debts.

As Breitbart News has reported, Gutierrez, who has said that English should not be the official language of government, said the group formed to "provide some intellectual cover to Republicans so that they can move forward without being politically hindered" in pursuing immigration reform and amnesty.

The super PAC believes that "all undocumented immigrants should be given a path towards legality."
