    generalities

He wandered around speaking generalities almost anyone could agree with. I can't tell what his position is from that speech.

Simcox was trying to stress the importance of being American, rather than some ethnic groups, a message not delivered very well.

I believe he was trying to make an appeal to people to understand from a basic level that we have to agree to enforce the laws, without the laws being enforced there is a breakdown in the communication in any community. It was a simple appeal for common sense. An attempt to open a realistic dialogue. He also seemed a bit nervous.
