The answer is yes, but the likelihood of this being accomplished anytime soon is slim. Solutions to complex problems can be slow in coming. If one were to attempt an analysis of of probable solutions, perhaps four major elements would stand out as starting points.



1. The practice of outsourcing. This may have contributed more more than anything else to the current economic downturn; the loss of American jobs to foreign or overseas sources has all but destroyed a once thriving, powerful industrial/economic base. America was once home to such names as Zenith, RCA Victor, Frigidare, Phillips, Kenmore, and host of others. These trade names still exist in part, but what was once exclusively engineered in the U.S. is no longer. Products that bear these trade names are often manufactured overseas; made in China is perhaps the most frequently seen label of manufacture. Nearly 100% of sporting goods, most major electronics particularly high-tech items, communications technology are manufactured elsewhere; the U.S. has become more a nation of consumers than producers. If America were to strictly regulate imports and return to manufacturing its own electronics, particularly high-tech items involved in communications, entertainment and computer technologies, this might be the beginning of new era. Outsourcing should have been outlawed , made illegal, banned from the outset. Or held to very strict regulation. Can this be accomplished now? Maybe, but not likely. It would require a complete change of standards and priorities and values on the part of the U.S. government and corporate America.

2. Development of alternative energy. Solar and electric energy are the future. They are also the past; these forms of energy have long been available, but powerful corporate interests have kept them from being more fully developed and utilized. Other nations are far ahead of the U.S. in their development of these resources. A complete shift in priorities would get the U.S. back on track. The dependency on crude oil is keeping America in the stone age. A completely different approach to America's energy needs would not only streamline every element of American life; it would create the job base that has been lost to foreign interests. “If we don't do it, someone else will.â€
