I blame Ted Kennedy for the unprecedented national disaster that is illegal immigration into the United States.

He isn’t solely to blame for this catastrophe, but Ted Kennedy was the frontman for the legislation that opened the floodgates — the Immigration Reform Act of 1965.

Until 1965, the U.S. had a functioning, sane immigration policy. No. 1, we enforced the laws. No. 2, the law was to only accept immigrants who would not become burdens to the taxpayers, and who wanted to assimilate. There was no welfare for aliens — legal or illegal.

The system worked. A national poll in 1965 showed that 58 percent of the U.S. public didn’t want any changes in immigration law.

But Ted Kennedy wanted to import a new underclass, even though he couldn’t come out and say it.

“The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants,” Teddy claimed. “It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs.”

Teddy’s brother, Bobby Kennedy, told a House committee not to worry, because, for instance, in the case of Asia, the number of new immigrants “would be approximately 5,000, Mr. Chairman, after which immigration from that source would virtually disappear.”

Bobby Kennedy didn’t live to see the chaos he and his friends had wrought. Three years later he was murdered … by an immigrant.

By the late 1970s, Teddy was pushing legislation to make it easier for “refugees” and “asylees” to get into the country — and become immediately eligible for welfare.

“It is impossible,” he said, “to put a dollar value on saving the life of a refugee.”

Just ask the Tsarnaev family.

In 1986, he was promoting yet another amnesty bill. He said it would “only” affect 1.3 million illegals, after which, well, whatever he said in 1965.

And so we arrive in 2016. Yesterday it was reported that there has been an outbreak of leprosy in California — leprosy!

All these diseases that were eradicated in 1965 are back, because of our open borders. Tuberculosis, whooping cough, diphtheria, and now a Biblical plague, leprosy. Ellis Island wasn’t about racism, it was about protecting the U.S. population from epidemics.

But you can no longer even discuss any of this publicly. It’s not Politically Correct. Consider this Walter DaSilva in custody in New Bedford and accused of murdering his 19-year-old daughter.

Another Boston paper calls him “a father … a Connecticut man.” The New Bedford paper calls him “a Brazil native.” The daily in Danbury says he is a “city man.”

No, what he is is an illegal alien. An illegal alien who already served 10 years in prison for trying to murder his wife, the mother of the daughter who cops say he shot nine times.

“Delicious is my Beretta,” he had texted her.

Walter DaSilva, another of those wonderful people whom Ted Kennedy said would add so much to his new country — “richness in culture and diversity.”
