Two weeks of relief....like going back in time

    Hi ALIPAC friends,

Well, my husband and I just returned from our two-week vacation in the Pacific Northwest and Canada (Vancouver and Victoria in British Columbia). Pertaining to illegal immigration, it was like taking a trip back in time.

I don't know if British Columbia has an illegal immigrant problem, but if they do, it's not illegal aliens coming in from Mexico or Central America. I never once saw a Hispanic, nor did I see one sign, book, magazine, etc. written in Spanish.

That wasn't such a big surprise for Canada...what DID shock the heck out of me, however, was how things are in the state of Washington pertaining to illegal immigration. While staying in Seattle, I went into a Target store, and felt like I'd stepped back in time about 30 years. THERE WAS NO SPANISH ANYWHERE!! No Spanish versions of magazines and books, no signs posted in Spanish, and no illegals roaming about the store speaking
    Spanish.

The restaurants and fast food places were staffed by....get this.....American teenagers!! Just like the old days in San Diego. Honestly, I didn't want to leave. It was such a breath of fresh air.

When we came back into California, especially as we got toward Sacramento and further south, it was as if I'd entered a different country. The difference between Canada/Washington and California is profound.

Needless to say, my husband and I are tossing around the idea of moving to the suburbs of Seattle.

Anyway, back to the fight against illegal immigration. It's nice to be able to talk (or should I say, write) with you all again.

Everyone needs to take a break (now and then) and go on vacation.

Pretty soon the illegals will be taking the jobs Canadains are supposidly 'not doing' either. I hope that doesn't happen to their beautiful country!! Its bad enough its happening to ours.

Welcome back Americangirl. Sounds absolutly wonderful!!!

I felt like that when I first moved to Nebraska. It was heaven on earth to me. Then panic set in when the invasion started to hit there. Took no time at all to see a drastic change. Definately not on the scale of bigger cities but the days of leaving your door unlocked or leaving your keys in the car were gone. But it does the soul good to realize and see there is "normal" American towns and people out there. I felt like 1000 lbs had been lifted off my shoulders.

Glad you had such a good time and glad to have you back.

We are going to Niagra Falls (husband has never seen them!) and into Canada the week after Labor Day. I can't wait!

Though I can only imagine how bad it is in California, my area of northern Delaware (Stanton, Newport, Elsmere) is being overrun, with a notable new surge of arrivals coming this spring and summer. I imagine they are all coming from the same general area in Mexico because, while there are always plenty of illegals at my local grocery store, on weekends it more resembles a reunion hall as these people gather in large groups hugging and excitedly babbling away in spanish. It irks me, and other shoppers, to no end at how rudely oblivious they are to those of us that are forced to maneuver around, or through, these improptu catch-up sessions.

Speaking of the grocery store it was there, on Friday, that I parked next to a 70's VW beetle with a Etadas de Mexico (sic?) license plate! Though I am sure they are common in CA., I have NEVER seen one around here before! It's hard to imagine that someone could drive a car bearing the plates of a foreign country the entire length of the U.S. and go unnoticed by law enforcement. Oh well, I am sure by the end of today that same car will be sporting a brand spanking new PA plate.

I'd like to add one other happy note here. I'm no longer living in the hellish neighborhood that I was living in prior to going on vacation.

For those of you who don't know me, I live in San Diego, California. My neighborhood, which used to be comprised of nice, clean single-family homes, has turned into hell. When the real estate boom hit here about 5 years ago, and housing prices nearly tripled, many of the homeowners in my neighborhood sold and traded up. Unfortunately, investors (i.e., slumlords) bought the houses and now rent them to mostly Section 8s (welfare famiiles on public housing assistance). Most, if not all, of my neighbors are poor Hispances (many illegal, I suspect).

The transformation has been profound. Chickens running loose on the street, 25 people living in one 3-bedroom house, rusted cars parked on the lawn (or rather, weeds), trash, filth, crime, etc.

So we've moved into an apartment in a better area of town and are meeting with a realtor this weekend to put our house on the market. We'll be leaving a nice 3-bedroom, 2-bath home and will have to buy a 1-bedroom condo in order to afford to live in the kind of neighborhood we want to live in. But I dont' care. It's worth it. It's just my husband and me, so we'll be fine in a 1-bedroom condo.

This morning I woke up for the first time in months....with no roosters crowing!!! Woo hoo!!!

Canada has not seen the invasion that the U.S. has suffered yet but it's just a matter of time. When work slows here or the benefits matches our freebies they'll swarm again.

I don't know about illegals in Canada, but they sure have an insurge of Muslims there, especially in Toronto. About 20 yrs. ago I vacationed in Toronto, and was so surprised to see so many Asians and other foreigners walking around....it was so crowded then, can you imagine now?

I was glad to get home and get a good old fashioned bologna sandwich!

Welcome back! Glad you had a good time. I've never been to Vancouver but much of Canada is beautiful country. I used to go up into Canada from Ste. Sault Marie quite a bit.
