CBP Field Operations at Hidalgo International Bridge Arrests Man Wanted on Sexual Assault Charges

    Release Date: February 24, 2021

HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge arrested Alejandro Javier Ayala-Chavez, a Mexican national, lawful permanent resident (LPR) upon arriving from Mexico due to officers discovering he had an outstanding arrest warrant for aggravated sexual assault.

“Our frontline CBP officers continuously assist law enforcement agencies in apprehending fugitives of the law. Our ability to identify and arrest those with pending charges in aggravated crimes such as this one illustrates our critical role in border security and public safety,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.

CBP officers working at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on Feb. 23, 2021 encountered 32-year-old Ayala-Chavez at the pedestrian walkway and he immediately told officers he was turning himself in.

Initial primary checks revealed that he in fact had an arrest warrant and a secondary inspection utilizing biometric verification confirmed the outstanding arrest warrant from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office issued in Dec. 2015, for an alleged incident that occurred in Alamo, Texas. Ayala was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a minor under the age of 12, a first-degree felony.

Criminal charges are merely allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

These criminals need to be stripped of lawful permanent residence and deported back home.

We do not want, or need, Mexico's sexual predators in our county.
