CBP Officers at the Laredo Port of Entry Arrest Man Wanted on Dallas Sexual Assault Warrant
Release Date: January 22, 2020
LAREDO, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry detained a man traveling in a commercial bus who attempted to make entry into the United States. CBP databases revealed the man had an outstanding state warrant for sexual assault-continuous sexual abuse of a young child.
“Our CBP officers are committed to the CBP mission and one of their responsibilities is to identify fugitives at our ports of entry and returning them to face justice for the crimes they have committed,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry.
“When we encounter persons wanted by other law enforcement agencies, we verify the warrant and then carry out the appropriate law enforcement action.”
CBP officers escort a wanted person at a U.S. port of entry.
The fugitive apprehension occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge. A CBP officer at primary inspection referred Arturo Gonzales Lopez, a 66-year-old Mexican citizen, for a secondary examination.
After being escorted to secondary, subsequent biometric verification through law enforcement databases confirmed that the man had an outstanding felony state warrant for sexual assault-continuous sexual abuse of a young child out of Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
CBP officers confirmed the identity of the man, verified the warrant, and transported the fugitive to Webb County Jail in Laredo, Texas to await criminal proceedings.
National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is a centralized automated database designed to share information among law enforcement agencies including outstanding warrants for a wide range of offenses.
Based on information from NCIC, CBP officers have made previous arrests of individuals wanted for homicide, escape, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual child abuse, fraud, larceny, and military desertion.
Charges and allegations contained in criminal complaints are merely accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty.
