Chick-Fil-A Donates to Extremist Southern Poverty Law Center

Internal Revenue Service (IRS) records show that Chick-fil-A is not only stopping donations to Christian organizations but is funding left-wing extremist groups, including the anti-Christian Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

Chick-fil-A’s 2017 990 IRS filing shows the fast-food franchise made a $2,500 donation to SPLC, among a laundry list of pro-abortion and pro-LGBT orgs, Townhall reports. The Chick-fil-A Foundation has come under conservative scrutiny since its decision to stop supporting Christian charities such as the Salvation Army, caving to disingenuouspressure campaigns from far-left activists.

The SPLC is most infamous for inspiring an attempted domestic terror attack against the Family Research Council (FRC), a group that lobbies for pro-marriage and pro-life policies.
In 2013, Floyd Lee Corkins II was sentenced to 25 years in prison in the first-ever conviction for domestic terrorism under Washington, DC, law. Corkins pled guilty to assault with intent to kill and committing an act of terrorism for entering the FRC’s office in August 2012 and shooting a black security guard, who ultimately thwarted his attack. Corkins used the SPLC’s “hate map” — an errorfilled digital map giving the addresses of entities that the org deems “hate groups” — to locate the FRC for his planned massacre.

Corkins was carrying a bag of Chick-fil-A sandwiches when he entered the building and started shooting. He later told prosecutors that he planned to smear some of the food on the faces of his would-be victims.

FRC President Tony Perkins swiftly denounced the Chick-fil-A Foundation’s support of “one of the most extreme anti-Christian groups in America.”
“Not only has Chick-fil-A abandoned donations to Christian groups including the Salvation Army, it has donated to one of the most extreme anti-Christian groups in America,” Perkins said in a statement. “Anyone who opposes the SPLC, including many Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and traditional conservatives, is slandered and slapped with the ‘extremist’ label or even worse, their ‘hate group’ designation.”

“It’s time for Christians to find a fast food alternative to Chick-fil-A,” he concluded.

In addition to the FRC terrorism episode, the SPLC has suffered a number of other setbacks and humiliations, but it has not backed down from its extremist agenda, refreshing its “Hate Map” in 2018 and putting mainstream conservative activists in the same category as neo-Nazis and the alt-right.

The FRC remains a target on the map, even after the listing nearly got some of its staff killed. Other supposed “hate groups” include the Center for Immigration Studies, Center for Security Policy, Federation for American Immigration Reform, and the Clarion Project.

After Corkins’ prosecution, federal agencies began distancing themselves from the then-discredited SPLC. The Department of Justice scrubbed its hate crimes web page of any association from the org in 2014, and the Department of Defense soon followed suit in its training materials. In August 2018, then-U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions called out the org while speaking at the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) — which SPLC has labeled a “hate group.”
The SPLC’s broad-brush approach to political smearing has caused it more PR headaches in recent years. In December 2017, its “Hate Tracker” — a tool ostensibly set up to monitor the conversation topics of online extremists — flagged the hashtags “#Christmas,” “#MerryChristmas,” “#Jesus,” and “#ChristmasEve.” At the time of this writing, the “Hate Tracker” website is no longer functional.
Just months earlier, the org committed an even bigger blunder, including British Muslim reformer Maajid Nawaz in a “Field Guide to Anti-Muslim Extremists.” Nawaz sued for defamation and won a $3.375 million settlement plus an on-camera apology from SPLC President Richard Cohen.

After the Nawaz fiasco, the floodgates opened with bipartisan scrutiny of its practices. Washington Post columnist Marc A. Thiessen wrote a piece titled “The Southern Poverty Law Center has lost all credibility,” calling the org a “caricature” of its former self and urging donors to halt their support.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) wrote to the IRSin April 2019, asking for a review of the SPLC’s nonprofit 501(c)(3) status in light of its obviously partisan activities which have yielded hundreds of millions of assets and “lavish salaries” for its management.

“Recent news reports have confirmed the long-established fact that the SPLC regularly engages in defamation of its political opponents,” Cotton wrote, citing the Nawaz settlement and the org’s Hate Map. “In fact, the SPLC’s defining characteristic is to fundraise off of defamation.”
In March of 2019, the SPLC fired its founder Morris Dees, suggesting some kind of misconduct. A local reporter said several sources told him Dees had been accused of sexual harassment. In addition, SPLC employees reportedly accused management of being “complicit in decades of racial discrimination, gender discrimination, and sexual harassment and/or assault.”

Even amid all this controversy, the SPLC continues working with tech and financecompanies like PayPal and Alphabet’s YouTube to silence and blacklist conservatives from banking services.

People can make their own decisions about patronizing Chick Fil A. They have made recent choices to terminate giving and association with groups like the Salvation Army in exchange to support the hate group of The Southern Poverty Law Center among others.

Truett Cathy would be saddened to see his company turn away from largely Christian giving and succumbing to bullying by the leftists, including SPLC, LGBT groups, and others.

Cowardice and Capitulation: The Shocking Things Chick-fil-A Funds

    November 27, 2019

There’s a lot of talk about Chick-fil-A. Most of it is generated by the #fakenews establishment that wants nothing more than to demonize an organization that, historically, has publicly professed its Christian faith that is inseparable from its business practices.

“[We are] based on biblical principles, asking God and pleading with God to give us wisdom on decisions we make about people and the programs and partnerships we have. And He has blessed us."
Those were the words of Chick-fil-A’s CEO, Dan Cathy, to the Baptist Press back in 2012 as he confirmed his biblical belief that marriage is between one man and one woman.

Days later, a disgruntled activist violently took out his disagreement with Chick-fil-A by trying to kill as many people as possible inside of Family Research Council’s (FRC) D.C. headquarters. According to the FBI interrogation, Floyd Lee Corkins chose FRC as a target because “Southern Poverty Law [Center] lists anti-gay groups. I found them online.” So, Corkins stormed inside FRC’s building, armed with a backpack full of Chick-fil-A sandwiches and 50 rounds of ammunition to “kill as many as possible and smear the Chick-Fil-A sandwiches in victims' faces, and kill the guard."

His heinous attack was stopped by FRC’s security guard, Leo Johnson—a hero who was shot while stopping the terrorist attack. In 2012, Corkins was sentenced to prison for 25 years.

In 2017 Chick-fil-A donated money to the same corrupt SPLC that still outrageously lists FRC as a “hate group.”

The Chick-fil-A Foundation’s recent announcement about its future funding again reaffirmed its redirection and capitulation. It just so happens that the same three groups targeted for years by LGBT organizations as anti-LGBT “hate groups” just happened to be the same ones that would no longer be funded: The Salvation Army, Paul Anderson Youth Home and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Chick-fil-A’s press release acknowledges that these groups were “characterized as anti-LGBT groups” but never dispels that. They give excuses, basically, as to why they had funded these three remarkable organizations but would no longer continue to do so.

For those defending Chick-fil-A and pretending we haven’t witnessed their progression of capitulation, the Salvation Army sees it for what it is, stating in a press release: “We're saddened to learn that a corporate partner has felt it necessary to divert funding to other hunger, education and homelessness organizations.” The Salvation Army does all three on a massive scale. But they don’t espouse an LGBT ideology.

In explaining Chick-fil-A’s funding decisions, Rodney Bullard, VP of Corporate Responsibility and Executive Director of the Chick-fil-A Foundation said: “We don't want our intent and our work to be encumbered by someone else's politics or cultural war. If something gets in the way of our mission, that is something that we are mindful of and cognizant of.”

Has their mission drifted way to the Left? Out with organizations that do not espouse a pro-homosexuality ideology and in with those who do, like Covenant House. Don’t let the Catholic association fool you, though. Covenant House, a homeless shelter for youth, takes pride in its promotion of all things LGBTQ. They even marched in the New York “Gay Pride” parade to show their inclusivity cred. Guess the Salvation Army (which admittedly has an issue with partially supporting abortion in cases of rape, incest and “life and health” of the mother) should’ve flown some co-opted rainbow colors to keep their hundreds of thousands in funding. Whoops. Looks like Covenant is the new Salvation.
Chick-fil-A funds the deeply political YWCA, a radically pro-abortion and pro-LGBTQ organization that repeatedly partners with Planned Parenthood.
Chick-fil-A also funds the DC-based New Leaders Council that identifies as a “hub of progressive millennial thought leadership” which exists to “support one another along their individual path to a more progressive political and cultural landscape.”
Chick-fil-A has given a sizable donation($50k) to The Pace Center for Girls, yet another pro-abortion organization. The education and advocacy group featured radical pro-abortion feminist Gloria Steinem (the “I Had An Abortion” activist who declared that birthing children is the “fundamental cause of climate change”) as their keynote speaker for their most recent girls’ Summit.

Or, how about Usher’s New Look, R&B star Usher Raymond IV's liberal non-profit? The group’s Disruptivator Summitis all about progressive community organizing on pivotal social issues, and Chick-fil-A funds it ($38,700 in 2017).

Chick-fil-A also gives tens of thousands to Chris 180 ($27,500 in 2017, $25k in 2019), a pro-LGBT behavioral health and child welfare service agency. The organization boasts of being awarded the “Leader in Supporting and Serving LGBT Families and Youth from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC).” Nothing promotes human degradation quite like the pro-abortion HRC—the multi-million dollar LGBT powerhouse that recently pushed for the legalization of prostitution in D.C.

You can always love and serve the broken without affirming the brokenness.
And then there’s Junior Achievement (JA), which inarguably does some phenomenal work with education and entrepreneurship. They’re the recipients of hundreds of thousands a year from Chick-fil-A. In 2016, though, JA joined a coalition (Georgia Prospers) of pro-LGBT organizations in their “Too Busy to Hate” campaign to politically oppose religious liberty legislation (specifically the First Amendment Defense Act) from passing in Georgia.

So much for “not being encumbered by someone else’s politics or cultural war.” These groups, and many more funded by Chick-fil-A, are clearly political on the Left. Of course Chick-fil-A funds a lot of great initiatives, but they’re being publicly dishonest about their corporate evolution. And the millions of families who’ve supported them over the years, because of the fast food chain’s principled stand, deserve to know the COWardice that the company has shown in the face of LGBT activism.

Chick-fil-A donated to leftist group SPLC

    November 27, 2019
    Todd Starnes

In 2012 domestic terrorist Floyd Corkins stormed the headquarters of Family Research Council armed with a semi-automatic pistol, 100 rounds of ammunition and 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches.
"I wanted to kill the people in the building and then smear a Chick-fil-A sandwich in their face," the gunman told the FBI.

Corkins had been enraged by the nationwide Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, and he selected Family Research Council as a target based on a "hate" map created by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The massacre was averted when Leo Johnson, the building's manager, tackled the rampaging gunman. Johnson's arm was shattered by a bullet, and he suffered serious injuries in the attack.

Corkins later pleaded guilty to three charges including committing an act of domestic terrorism while armed.

Now comes word that in 2017 Chick-fil-A donated money to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the same organization that created a map that nearly led to the slaughter of innocent Christians at the Family Research Council headquarters in Washington, D.C.
TownHall.com published an IRS 990 form that shows the Chick-fil-A Foundation contributed $2,500 to the SPLC.
Why would Chick-fil-A donate money to an anti-Christian group like the Southern Poverty Law Center? Company officials did not return my calls seeking a comment.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins told the Todd Starnes Radio Showhe was stunned by the news.
"It's time for Christians to find a fast food alternative to Chick-fil-A," he said.

"Tax reports have now exposed Chick-fil-A for funding the anti-Christian Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization linked in federal court to domestic terrorism after their smear campaign of Christian organizations resulted in a shooting in which the gunman planned to smear Chick-fil-A sandwiches in the faces of his victims," Perkins said.
Perkins then revealed a shocking revelation about what happened in the aftermath of the 2012 attack.

"[CEO] Dan Cathy, nor anyone with Chick-fil-A inquired about the well-being of Mr. Johnson or any of the FRC team members, but they made a donation to the SPLC, which was linked in federal court to this act of domestic terrorism," Perkins said. "Chick-fil-A has seriously lost their way."

Chick-fil-A recently made national headlines by ending its charitable giving to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Salvation Army. Both organizations had been labeled as hate groups because of their positions on traditional marriage.

"Not only has Chick-fil-A abandoned donations to Christian groups including the Salvation Army, it has donated to one of the most extreme anti-Christian groups in America," Perkins told me. "Anyone who opposes the SPLC, including many Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims and traditional conservatives, is slandered and slapped with the 'extremist' label or even worse, their 'hate group' designation."

Over the years millions of Christians mobilized to fight for Chick-fil-A. They defended the company from a militant mob of LGBT activists and their supporters in the mainstream media and Democratic Party.

The Family Research Council was one of Chick-fil-A's most vocal defenders. So you can imagine their surprise when they discovered the company they been fighting for all these years had been quietly giving money to an anti-Christian group that wanted to destroy FRC.
Mr. Cathy has an obligation to come forward and set the record straight for the millions of people who supported his family's company.

And while he's at it, perhaps he could pick up a telephone and call Mr. Johnson – a man who nearly lost his life in the culture war. It's the decent thing to do.

But until that happens, I just cannot in good conscious spend a single penny at a fast-food restaurant that supports anti-Christian organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center.

    Farewell, Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A's Donations to the SPLC, and Progressive Groups

    Wed Nov 27, 2019

    Daniel Greenfield

As I noted in my article on Chick-fil-A last week, the Chick-fil-A Foundation, the charitable arm of the fast food chain, is run by an Obama and Clinton supporter, and much of its funding had been going to Democrat groups in Atlanta, and to the usual lefty causes, from UNICEF to a refugee charity depicting women in hijabs.

Ryan Bomberger at Town Hall has dug deeper into older 990s to uncover donations to the Southern Poverty Law Center and pro-abortion groups.

In 2017 Chick-fil-A donated money to the same corrupt SPLC that still outrageously lists FRC as a “hate group.”

Chick-fil-A has given a sizable donation ($50k) to The Pace Center for Girls, yet another pro-abortion organization.

The group’s Disruptivator Summit is all about progressive community organizing on pivotal social issues, and Chick-fil-A funds it

Not especially shocking from a foundation run by an Obama and Hillary supporter that was practicing social responsibility, not charity.

The Executive Director of the CFA Foundation is Rodney D. Bullard, a former White House fellow and Assistant US Attorney. Some may have mistaken him for a conservative because he was a fellow in the Bush Administration, but he was an Obama donor, and, more recently, had donated to Hillary Clinton’s campaign while at Chick-fil-A.

Like many corporations, Chick-fil-A branded its charitable giving as a form of social responsibility. Bullard became its Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility. Unlike charity, corporate social responsibility is a leftist endeavor to transform corporations into the political arms of radical causes.

As I also noted, there wasn't that much money going to the Salvation Army and the two other charities at the center of this. If anything, those donations were a distraction from what else was going on at the CFA Foundation. Now the veil is off and people are seeing it for themselves.
