Chuck Schumer Says Trump Called Him Asking For Help On Passage Of DREAM

Chuck Schumer says Trump called him asking for help on passage of DREAM ACT; DML weighs in

"For all of those (DACA) that are concerned about your status during the 6 month period, you have nothing to worry about - No action!"

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) is calling for Congress to pass a “clean Dream Act” Thursday, noting the president called him, specifically, asking for help in the endeavor.

The White House announced it would scrap DACA, a program that gleans its legitimacy from an executive order issued by President Obama, but did so with the thought of a permanent legislative fix in mind.

“Since President Trump’s decision to end DACA on Tuesday, it’s absolutely necessary that Congress move forward to pass a clean Dream Act,” Schumer said. “800,000 dreamers anxiously await action by this Congress. There is no reason to wait. Let’s put a clean Dream Act on the floor, which I believe would pass by a significant margin, and tell these hard-working Dreamers they belong in this country, too, a country they want to be part of desperately.”

Nancy Pelosi came out earlier Thursday and said she spoke with Trump on the phone about reassuring Dreamers that they would not be deported in the next six months.

It turns out Trump spoke with Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, as well, wanting “help” with constructing a new version of “The Dream Act.” Schumer said he advised the president to start by getting on board with initiatives introduced by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) and Dick Durbin (D., Ill.).

He also expressed an urgency to expedite the legislative process, telling Trump to implore House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to get the bill to the floor “ASAP.”

“We can get this done, get it done quickly … end the anguish of so many Americans and make sure that our economy continues to move forward and is not needlessly ripped apart,” he said.

The CEO of DML NEWS, Dennis Michael Lynch, commented on Schumer’s remarks by asking a question. “Does anyone know of a single American who is feeling anguish over the Dream Act passing? I don’t.” DML continued, “I think Americans are in anguish over Obama’s legacy law which effects hundreds of millions of taxpayers. It’s called Obamacare, and if Congress is to act swiftly on anything, it best be healthcare or tax reform. If not, Trump and the GOP will lose DC in 2018, and 2020.

Frankly, I cannot believe Trump is biting this liberal bait. Democrats know that Trump was elected on immigration enforcement, not on the promise of amnesty. If he goes through with this sort of left-leaning agenda where illegal aliens are placed in front of Americans, they know the wind is taken out from the conservative sails that powered the 2016 election. Trump is skating on super thin ice, and the person he may actually shoot on 5th Avenue is himself.”

Schumer thanked Trump for the compromise made with Democratic leadership on a short-term government funding plan that included a three-month debt ceiling limit increase and aid for Hurricane Harvey.

Schumer’s statements give further definition to this week’s strange political news cycle, which is reminding onlookers that sometimes partisan labels are merely just that, labels.

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
