CNN anchor now faces double deportation

Interest skyrockets to boot Piers Morgan, many in U.K. don't want him back

CNN anchor Piers Morgan, the British host of “Piers Morgan Tonight” on the cable news network, may become a man without a country, as petitions on both sides of the Atlantic are looking to keep the TV host out of both the U.S. and U.K.

A petition on the White House’s “We the People” website looking to deport Morgan out of the U.S. has surpassed 75,000 signatures, far above the 25,000 needed to require a response from the White House.

The petition to deport Morgan reads, “British Citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment. We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.”

“Merry Christmas! Even to those who want me deported,” Morgan tweeted on Christmas Day.

And now, there’s apparently a brand-new counter-petition asking U.K. Home Secretary Theresa May to prevent Morgan from ever moving back to Britain.

“We got rid of him once and why should we have to suffer again. The Americans wanted him so they should put up with him. We washed our hands of him a long time ago,” the petition reads.

Before Morgan’s coming to CNN, BBC News reported the journalist was fired from his editorial job at the Daily Mirror for publishing fraudulent photographs in May 2004.

He has also been implicated in a media phone-hacking scandal in Britain.

Morgan has been an inflammatory voice in America’s debate over gun-control legislation since the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Newtown, Conn., in which 27 people – including 20 young children – were killed, reportedly by Adam Lanza.

Outrage over Morgan’s pro-gun-control views began this month, when the host engaged in a heated debate with guest Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, on his “Piers Morgan Tonight” show.

“The argument I keep hearing is, ‘Well if everybody else was armed, it wouldn’t happen.’ It’s a load of total hogwash,” Morgan told Pratt. “How many more kids have to die, before you guys say, ‘We want less guns, not more?’”

But Morgan really raised eyebrows when, in the midst of a heated exchange, he turned on Pratt and said, “You’re an unbelievably stupid man, aren’t you?”

Moments later he continued, “You don’t give a d— about the gun murder rate in America, do you? You don’t actually care.”

Video of the exchange between Morgan and Pratt can be seen below:

The next day, Morgan ruffled feathers again by responding to a Twitter message accusing him of being “gleeful” that the Sandy Hook tragedy happened to help advance his gun-control cause with a tweet of his own reading, “Of course I am, you moron.”

Those signing the British petition to keep him from returning to Enlgand include Daniel Sharon of Stopsley, U.K., who says, “Piers Morgan is an ignorant and arrogant disgrace. The Americans wanted him so let them have him!”

Philip Espin of Louth, U.K., says, “We have enough media criminals here without bringing another one back.”

On Morgan’s Twitter page, there is some love for the anchor.

“I couldn’t agree more with you on the gun laws,” wrote Daniel Fallon.

And Nick Routley gave Morgan a friendly invitation in case he does get deported, saying, “We’d be happy to have you in Canada.”

Report: NBC News anchor 'defied police'

'Meet the Press' host was told not to show gun clip on air

    Published: 1 hour ago
    by
    Joe Kovacs

Police in Washington, D.C., reportedly warned NBC not to show a high-capacity gun magazine on the air before last Sunday’s broadcast of “Meet the Press,” and confirm that the show’s anchor, David Gregory, is under investigation.

“NBC contacted [the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department] inquiring if they could utilize a high capacity magazine for their segment,” Gwendolyn Crump, a police spokeswoman, said in an email to WJLA-TV, the ABC television affiliate in the nation’s capital.

“NBC was informed that possession of a high capacity magazine is not permissible and their request was denied. This matter is currently being investigated.”

Despite the warning, Gregory held up the ammunition magazine on national television for a discussion on gun control.

“Here is a magazine for ammunition that carries 30 bullets,” Gregory said on “Meet the Press” as he brandished the magazine. “Now isn’t it possible that if we got rid of these, if we replaced them and said, ‘Well, you could only have a magazine that carries five bullets or 10 bullets,’ isn’t it just possible that we could reduce the carnage in a situation like Newtown?”

His commentary came after the Newtown, Conn., school shooting where 20 children and six adults were killed by a 20-year-old with several guns he had obtained, despite state restrictions that already should have prevented him from using them.

But the program is taped in Washington, D.C., and the district has a ban on such pieces of equipment.

Gregory is reportedly on vacation and will not host this weekend’s edition of “Meet The Press.”

Politico reports that according to the network, Gregory’ vacation was scheduled prior to last week’s show, and he is slated to be on the air Jan. 5.

So far, more than 8,000 people already have signed
the petition that was created on a White House website demanding that officials “press charges against David Gregory for possession of a 30-round, high capacity assault rifle magazine in Washington.”

Breitbart.com contacted the police chief and asked if there were any plans to look into the apparent violation of the district’s gun laws. In response, Chief Cathy Lanier replied, “Yes, we are investigating the incident to determine if the magazine was in fact real.”

Get the inside scoop on what really happens behind the scenes in the media. Get your autographed copy of “Stop the Presses!” by WND Editor Joseph Farah.

The petitions are ways for Americans to bring issues to the attention of the Obama administration, and if the total signatures reaches 25,000 there’s supposed to be a response.

The petition states, “David Gregory is not above the law; he is a journalist, and must be held accountable to the same law as every other person.”

It quotes the district law, “No person in the district shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term large capacity ammunition feeding device means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition.”

“We The People demand that he be formally charged for violation of this law on ‘Meet the Press,’” the petition, created over the weekend, states.

At the time of the stunt, Gregory was asking Wayne LaPierre, the chief of the National Rifle Association, whether his group would argue over gun controls.

Among the comments posted on WND in response to a report about Gregory’s possession of such a weapon component, one forum participant said, “We know how well criminals will comply with that limitation … don’t we?”

Another high-profile media figure under fire in the wake of the Newtown massacre is CNN’s Piers Morgan.

Morgan is not only the subject of a
petition to deport him from the U.S. for undermining the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, but there is also a counter-petition underway in Britain to prevent him from being allowed back into the U.K.

Please don't kick out Piers, we don't want him back! British critics launch counter-petition to make sure he stays in U.S.

~ A petition to have the journalist deported after he criticised pro gun campaigners has attracted 71,000 signatures
~ Now a second petition saying he must stay because the British do not want him also has around 1,100 votes of support

First Piers Morgan became the subject of a petition calling for him to be deported from the US for upsetting the gun lobby there.

Now a counter-petition has been started, asking for America to keep him – not because he’s popular there but (allegedly) because no one here wants him back.

The broadcaster is at the centre of a row after criticising pro-gun campaigners on his nightly US chat show in the wake of the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre, in which 20 children and six adults were shot dead.

More than 72,000 Americans have so far signed a petition on the White House website calling for him to be kicked out.

A campaign to have Piers Morgan deported from America faced a new hurdle yesterday as critics of the television presenter launched a counter bid to keep him where he is

But a second petition on the same website now insists he must stay in the US, not only because he has a constitutional right to free speech but also – ‘more important’ – because ‘no one in the UK wants him back’.

So far, just over 400 people have signed the ‘Keep Piers Morgan in the USA’ petition so it has some way to go before it reaches the 25,000 signatures which guarantees a response from the US government.

It was proposed by Janusz Jasinski, a Birmingham-based website designer. To add to the former newspaper editor’s embarrassment, a third petition is calling on Home Secretary Theresa May to stop him from returning to Britain.

Appearing on the US website Change.org it has so far attracted more than 100 signatures and states: ‘We got rid of him once and why should we have to suffer again.
The Americans wanted him so they should put up with him.’ This petition was written by ‘Hackergate’, alias delivery driver Steven Nott, who gave evidence to the Leveson Inquiry about how he tried to raise the alarm in 1999 about how mobile phones could be easily hacked. Last week Morgan repeatedly attacked pro-gun guests on his CNN show.

More than 71,000 Americans have already signed an initial petition calling for the British journalists deportation after he criticised pro-gun campaigners on his chat show

Now a second petition on the White House website now insists he must stay in the US, not only because he has a constitutional right to free speech but also 'more important' because 'no one in the UK wants him back'

In a heated exchange with Larry Pratt, of Gun Owners for America, Morgan called him an ‘idiot’, ‘dangerous’ and an ‘unbelievably stupid man’ after he argued that more guns would actually cut crime.

In another debate on gun controls, Morgan shouted down economist John Lott, author of More Guns, Less Crime and branded him a liar for claiming gun crime trends in countries such as Britain supported his thesis.

With CNN reportedly about to overhaul its prime time line-up and possibly move Morgan to a later slot, the combative presenter has not commented on the row since Christmas Day, when he tweeted: ‘Merry Christmas! Even to those who want me deported.’

He has stood by what he said, insisting that banning assault weapons and high-capacity gun magazines is no attack on the US Constitution but simple common sense.

CNN's Piers Morgan said, "Both the Bible and the Constitution were well-intentioned, but they are basically, inherently flawed – hence the need to amend it." LIKE if you agree Piers is an idiot!

Brits Counter-Petition: Keep Piers Morgan, We Don't Want Him Back

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/26/2012 14:33 -0500

Just as we warned in our previous discussion, the Brits, concerned that the dreaded Piers Morgan may be forcefully removed from the USA, have now lodged their own petition. With over half the signatures required, the counter-petition to Home Secretary Theresa May begs her to: Stop Piers Morgan From Being Deported Back To The UK From America... "We got rid of him once and why should we have to suffer again. The Americans wanted him so they should put up with him. We washed our hands of him a long time ago." They do have a point. We hear Belize has a quietly-used compound going cheap?

Tell ya what - Im SICK of these arrogant Brits trying to tell us how to live. They need to take care of their own back yard (since they have allowed themselves to be over run by muzzies) and let us take of ours.

I'm SICK of foreigners coming to OUR country and then trying to change it. It's infuriating.

Far be it for me to sit here on my little perch in the states and tell someone else in another country how to vote, what to eat, what to shoot, etc...

I'm also sick of America having to take on other country's TRASH. We are NOT the dumping ground for the rest of the world!
