English must be the first language

or my hair is gonna set itself on fire! I am trying to mind my own and read my book but this was too much!

This afternoon riding the subway home from work I had 2 asians basically screaming to talk over the 3 hispanics on my left who were speaking in spanish, then I have 2 russians screaming over the top of them. I did everything to control myself from standing up and yelling evryone shut up and speak english quietly. All of these people had no respect for anyone around them as yelling is normal.

I mean I looked at the dynamics of this situation and none of the people probably spoke english. I would bet money on it. My point is what if there was an emergency on the train would there be an asian, russian and spanish translator to explain the situation? No. This is why it is so important to have english as the first language of this country.

Sorry I just had to rant...

    Good point!

That is something the politically correct crowd never considers, I guess.

Here in Texas, we do have a lot of other ethnic groups. Since I don't live in a city, I just get to see the Mexicans - or South Americans.

The Asians and ME who come to our area speak English quite well. They own the liquor stores, cigarette stores, and a honky tonk!!! I guess they know what we Rednecks spend our money on - right????

Rant away Pandabear.......sucks big time. And that seems to be the way it goes......louder and louder. I know I've felt like doing some screaming in situations like that. I hate feeling like a foreigner in my own country.

english must be our first language!!

this realy gets me pissed. i work for a large printing co. we have not hired not one american in months. we have so many non english speaking employee's now that its very difficult to even do my job. i have a crew of three mexican females working with me everyday. i can't tell them what i need them to do and when i complain to my boss he says i'm a trouble maker. i have been taken to the office and told i could lose my job if they complain to much about me. i have been with this company for twenty two years and this is how they treet me. i show them respect and i try to not get upset when they screw up my product. one of them told me in very broken words that i should learn to speak spanish, and i said you're in america you should learn my language and she said she doe's not want to learn. all they do is make as much as they can and send it to they're real home. i must say we have to take back our country NOW!!

I totally agree on the language complaints. I too feel like a stranger in my own country. Everywhere I go Spanish is being spoken now. I have to wonder are these illegal aliens from Mexico or are they U.S. citizens? If they are citizens why are they not assimilating to our language out in public? Why do they want to alienate the rest of us?

You guys have valid arguments and I sympathize, believe me, but I have to say: welcome to my world. This is exactly what we in CA have had to put up with for decades. Billboards have been in Spanish forever, hit the scan button on the car radio and you're lucky if you find 1/3 third of the stations in English. Go to any store, Govt. office, hospital or doctor's office, etc. and you will be lucky to see 10% of the people who will speak English, plus the signs are all in Spanish first and then English below in smaller letters. We have to put up with hearing Spanish language commercials on the English stations. Almost all of TV stations where I live have Spanish language sister stations, all which promote open-borders, anti-American viewpoints by the way.

I get junk mail in Spanish, flyers on my door in Spanish, door-to-door salespeople who speak only Spanish, etc. I recently had a middle aged Mexican woman come up to my door offering to sell something, but becasue she did not speak any English, I had no idea what she was selling. Trying to be a decent person, I apologized to her in my very poor, broken Spanish and explained I did not speak Spanish. She went 'tchk' with her tongue and gave me a deadly stare as if to say, "who the hell are you to live in CA and NOT speak Spanish", and handed me an English flyer, which said she was offering carpet cleaning services.

I declined and said no thanks, and as she walked away I heard her say under her breath, thinking I couldn't understand her anyway, "pinchi gringo" as she stomped off. Can you believe this crap? They not only refuse to learn the language of this country, but curse you if you don't know Spanish.

What really strikes me as strange about this whole language debate is that people in most countries WANT to learn english. It is starting to become a global language. Back in the 1980's I traveled all around the world and I could find english speaking people everywhere. It's not as if Spain or Mexico have made a global impact. Yeah...I know, there are other Spanish speaking countries.

I have spent some time in the hispanic community the last couple of months and what I found is that many more of them can speak english than they lead on to. Maybe not fluently, but enough for both of us to communicate.

Gosh Reptile.......that's horrible. I don't even want to think of it being that bad all over.
It will be if there isn't a stop put to it. Don't be shocked if it happens within ten years either. There is a double standard in place. If an American speaks against it they are labeled racist and yet an illegal can pretty much say and do what they want.
