    Sorry, I gotta vent.

I'm the one on here who is a nurse -- and I'm just sick and tired of taking care of illegals in our hospital

We've had one on our floor who had TB many years ago. The TB is no longer communicable, but she's basically had it worm its way into her brain and is now losing both cognitive and muscular function. She's been on our unit for ALMOST A MONTH!!! I don't know what they're waiting for. Last I heard she was to go to another branch for re-hab, but I guess they haven't found a bed yet, so she's taken up permanent residence on our floor. She is absolutely helpless and has to have everything done for her. She has three school aged children and I have no idea who is taking care of them.

Another two or three are admitted weekly for alcohol over-indulgence. They're given their "banana bags" of vitamins and fluids and sent home. Others are usally in for related GI disorders like pancreatitis, GI bleeds, liver disease, etc. They are just basically drunks, many of these latino workers. I understand they have this "hard life" but, Americans, we are paying to take care of them!!

Then you have the indian illegals also -- just basically homeless who would normally be lying in the streets of Calcutta, but they come here with their "family members" and all of a sudden, they've got a free hospital bed for whatever ails them.

Common also are the grandparents of the visa holder -- filapinos, asians, indians, middle easterners, muslims. Seems "mama and papa" always seem to come for a "visit" and end up being admitted for mental status changes of whatever kind. This will entail the entire stroke workup -- MRI, CT scans, etc -- majorly expensive tests and treatments, carotid surgeries, etc. These are elderly people who require very expensive care -- it is just absolutely WRONG.

I'm just SO tired of it -- cleaning up after them, having to use translators ... I just don't get how hospital administsrators, lawmakers, etc. can allow this -- we are taking care of the WORLD -- meanwhile our country is going bankrupt!!!

Yet another reason, Americans, to rise up, to march, to demand that it ends. There WILL be no health care dollars, no Medicare or Medicaid LEFT in 10 years -- I guarantee it. We, as American taxpayers, are getting TAKEN -- please, please know this. Please, take an hour to walk through your local hospital and see if this is the population your hospital is serving -- because I know it is in ours.

What upsets me is the fact that we are hiring foreign nurses. You have a nurse and can't even communicate with her. What's up with that?

jjmm, I feel for you. I know how frustrated you must be because I live in Los Angeles, California. It is disgusting to see all these free loaders here in our hospitals. I HATE this place sooooo much! I can't stand it anymore and NO ONE seems to care!! I want to scream!! I do not see this problem ending anytime sooner or later. I don't come on this site that much anymore because it depresses me. There is hardly EVER an good news so why torture myself. Sad, but it's the truth.

Great article. I've seen some similar ones on VDARE. I'm just glad we are not having some other kind of national, health crisis on top of this immigration disaster. I don't know how our medical people would make it through. God bless you.

Do you mind if your story is passed along to my congressional representatives? Though it might take hundreds more like it before they wake up. I think in some hospitals perhaps the people feel they have a deep religious duty to take care of these people.

Absolutely pass it on. I will say I'm a nurse in a major east coast city hospital. I guess our hospital is non profit which means it relies on taxpayer dollars. I don't know -- I think what they do is milk the insurance payers dry by running every test to "pay for" and cover all the other costs incurred by these illegals.

I think last year the costs were listed at some $75 million for illegals at our hospital -- how many schools, roads, jobs would that pay for?? What sort of equipment and supplies do we do without at our hospital so we can cover these costs??

Our public library also recently sent out a letter begging for DONATIONS. They say that due to all the "diverse" patrons, that they need money to add books and other materials in other languages!! I was so angry, I wrote back to them to tell them to let these non-English speakers pay for the books themselves!! So, now I have to donate to my public library so we can have spanish materials??? Are these people crazy??

You're not alone jjmm. I'm a nurse too and I know this story well. I frequently post that we need to amend the HIPAA laws so that illegal aliens can be reported as using the healthcare system...and often abusing it. Their medical information can be protected but they should be reported to ICE. They often use aliases and fraudulent SS#s as well. Also that we should be stabilizing emergent cases and transporting them to their home countries.....NOT treating them throughout the continuum of care. Just one of these patients can cost the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars, especially if they are dialysis, cancer patients or need extended care. I'm willing to bet your hospital has a "charitable" program to help defray the costs of these cases. But there are American citizens who are uninsured that could benefit from those charities to cover some of the costs that Medicaid/Medi-Cal doesn't cover.

Jjim, found this article that has an interesting angle:

Some health-care professionals blame New Jersey's problems on the proliferation in recent years of ambulatory care centers -- outpatient facilities that have lured many insured patients away from hospitals that were once the main care providers. "They take away all of our paying patients," said Betsy Ryan, president and chief executive of the New Jersey Hospital Association.

The New Jersey Hospital Association estimates that about 15 percent of New Jersey's population, or about 1.3 million people, lack health insurance. By comparison, about 500,000 of Massachusetts's 6.5 million people were uninsured when that state instituted a universal health insurance plan under then-Gov. Mitt Romney (R).

I see this trend exploding. The nonprofits will drive away ALL paying patients. As a Catholic, I REFUSED to deliver my children in a local Catholic hospital. My cost would have been much higher because of all the charity care they provide for illegal aliens. There were THREE Catholic hospitals in my area, now there is ONE and it's in deep financial doo-doo.

I understand what all of you are saying. our Country has gone to the pits. They use excuses as to I have had a hard life, sheeet I have had a hard life. I am not going to get into it, but, they use that excuse and thats what it is an excuse, so all us American taxpayers have to pay for it, and I am fed up with it also, but, no one in congress and the government could care less, and it makes me sick.

There are and have been many Americans trying to get into nursing over the years. The problem is there are waiting lists for the nursing programs. Not enough schools, not enough slots. So hospitals import nurses. In the north many Canadian nurses work in our hospitals. Many are Phillipino.........both are good nurses but nevertheless these are good paying jobs that many Americans want but can't get into. Lately I've been seeing nurses being imported from Africa and China too. In Southern California they are bringing in Mexican nurses as well.
