D.C. Mayor: Sequestration To Blame For Shooting

If they’re not blaming the murderous actions of a criminal on the 2nd Amendment, they’re blaming it on “small government.” Everyone knows that the government is there to protect us and take care of us from cradle to grave. Why would anyone want to diminish the government’s ability to be our safety and security to whom we flee when crisis strikes? Just like we shouldn’t be talking about additional gun rights at a time like this, we also shouldn’t be talking about spending cuts. At least, that’s what some people like the D.C. Mayor believe. According to Vincent Gray the D.C. Mayor, unnecessary and fiscally irresponsible spending cuts from sequestration are what led to the Navy Yard murder spree: It’s hard to know, [but] certainly, as I look at, for example, sequestration, which is about saving money in the federal government being spent, that we somehow skimped on what would be available for projects like this, and then we put people at risk. Obviously 12 people have paid the ultimate price for whatever — you know — whatever was done to have this man on the base. It really is hard to believe that someone with a record as checkered as this man could conceivably get clearance, could get credentials, to be able to get on the base. I just met with the commandant of the Washington Navy Yard last week. We were talking about the security and we know this is one of the most secure facilities in the nation. So how this could happen is beyond belief. So, if it weren’t for those “anti-government” activists who argue for smaller government, lower taxes and cuts in wasteful spending, those 12 murder victims would still be alive today. Never mind the fact that sequestration was the White House’s idea. Allegedly in hopes that the GOP would think it was such a bad idea, that they’d agree to tax hikes on the “rich.” It was a silly political game that deliberately targeted the worst possible places to start cutting, while hundreds of billions of dollars continue to be wasted on pet projects, lavish conferences, scandal cover-ups, a myriad things mysteriously “unaccounted” for. And that’s not counting all those redundant, bureaucratic and unconstitutional government departments that need to be abolished. No, the shooting didn’t have anything to do with sequestration. And it didn’t have anything to do with American gun-owners or the NRA. It did, however, have a lot to do with gun control. Murder sprees will continue to happen as long as criminals can depend on gun-free zones.
