Contagion, networks and outlaws: talking about migration

I spoke with Judith Adler Hellman the other day about Mexican migration to the north. Hellman is the Canadian political scientist who 10 years ago wrote Mexican Lives, a fascinating study of the daily lives of women and men from a variety of social and economic settings that managed to illuminate a sense of contemporary Mexico. Now she has turned her attention to migration, and has been interviewing people on both sides of the border to get a sense of what that process is all about.

I have interacted with many illegals in the trades (all trades). It is hard as we fight this fight to realize these are just folks. It might shock you to know that i don't share most of the problems with the introduction of mexican culture. But, i will fight ruthlessly to make sure the american worker (all races) is protected from cheap labor
