Cops: College Football Player Murdered by Illegal

Police in Oregon baffled by seemingly random attack

A convenience store confrontation over the weekend ended in tragedy after a man suspected of being in the country illegally approached and stabbed a college football player to death.

Police in McMinnville, Ore., are still baffled as to why 33-year-old Juventino Bermudez-Arenas attacked 20-year-old Linfield College student Parker Moore after entering a 7-Eleven convenience store Saturday night.
“I just had a guy get stabbed in my store,” 7-Eleven employee “Frank” told a 911 emergency dispatcher. “I need a paramedic and some police. Some Mexican just came in and stabbed him in his chest right here in front of the till. He’s bleeding pretty bad right now.”

“He was buying alcohol and this dude just came in, this Mexican, just stabbed him like a whole bunch of times right in his chest,” Frank described.
“An autopsy later determined Moore died from two stab wounds to the chest,” reports KOIN.

Bermudez-Arenas’ family says he returned home after the stabbing incident, and it was there he decided to circle back to the store to turn himself in.
“He went and told his family what he did and said he needed to get right back to where the police (were) so he can turn himself in and so he could tell his side of the story,” Bermudez-Arenas’ aunt told KPTV.
Police, however, say when Bermudez-Arenas went back to the store he allegedly refused orders to drop a knife in his possession, prompting police to open fire on him, killing him dead.
Bermudez-Arenas’ family is also puzzled as to why he might have carried out the violent attack, as he reportedly did not have mental health issues, use drugs or drink and was not involved in gang activity.
They also say he spoke little to no English and that the language barrier may have contributed to his perceived refusal to follow orders.
Yesterday investigators revealed Bermudez-Arenas was likely living in the U.S. illegally, though he’d worked in the country since at least 2000.
During a previous run-in with the law, he had given police a variation of his name, Jonentino Bermudes, in addition to an erroneous birthdate. His employer also had two different Social Security numbers on file for him.
Police say there is no connection between Moore and his assailant and that the attack appeared to be random.
Moore was a college sophomore majoring in business management. He was also a resident adviser and linebacker with the Linfield Wildcats which just proceeded to the NCAA Division III playoffs after a shutout victory on Saturday.
“Parker embodied everything that is good,” his Coach Joseph Smith said. “As coaches, Parker was a young man who you want your own kids to grow up to be like.”
A memorial is being held for Moore tonight at 7pm in Ted Wilson Gymnasium on the McMinnville campus.
An investigation into the incident is still ongoing. “It is not clear if Bermudez-Arenas had ever come into contact with federal immigration agencies,” The Daily Caller reports. Watch: The following report shows how a staggering number of crimes committed by people in the country illegally go underreported.
