This Issue: Work permit plans of Obama & Boehner opposed 2-1 by voters, new poll finds

NEW POLL RESULTS ANNOUNCED JUST TODAY: Regardless of whether or not they think some illegal aliens should eventually get an amnesty, voters are overwhelmingly opposed to two key components of what Pres. Obama and House Speaker Boehner are trying to do.

While Obama's and Boehner's answer to what to do with 12 million illegal aliens is to reward them, the most popular option chosen by survey respondents (63%) was to remove the ability of illegal immigrants to have U.S. jobs and benefits, and to encourage them to return to their home countries.
And they almost as resoundingly (59% to 25%) rejected both leaders' plans to give out work permits in the first year before any -- let alone all -- new enforcement is implemented.
The news media have stirred a lot of controversy the last two weeks with reports on polling that purport to show majority support for the two plans. But many columnists have pointed out the flaws in the questions, especially in that they don't mention that the immigration plans are work-permits-first, nor do they give people the option of choosing an alternative other than mass deportations.
We at NumbersUSA sponsored the poll released today so voters could have a chance to choose among a number of options in a straightforward way.
    Voters were asked:
(QUESTION) If the U.S. government were to offer some kind of legalization to any group of illegal immigrants, should they be given work permits in the first year or only after Congress certifies that all promises on border, interior and workplace enforcement are fully implemented?

25% said work permits during the first year before new enforcement
59% said work permits only after Congress certifies full implementation of all border, interior and workplace enforcement
    16% were not sure
The Pulse Opinion Research poll of 1,000 likely voters was conducted within two weeks of Boehner publicly releasing his immigration outline and Obama saying that passing his immigration plan is a top priority for the year. The poll did not mention Obama or Boehner by name.

In the 19-question poll, voters were asked:

(QUESTION) Do you support or oppose proposals to encourage most illegal immigrants to go back home on their own by keeping them from getting jobs and public benefits here?

    41% Strongly support
    22% Somewhat support
    14% Somewhat oppose
    14% Strongly oppose
    9% Not sure
With 63% strongly or somewhat supporting, this was the most popular of options offered in the poll -- much more popular than any of the options involving deportation or work permits and legal status.

    GET THE WORD OUT
My guess is that because of the pro-amnesty bias of most in the mass media, most voters who are in the majority on this new poll think they are in the minority.
They will be more apt to help us continue to block Obama and Boehner on their amnesty plans if they know they have the majority of Americans agreeing with them.
Check out the action opportunities in the right-hand column. Let's be sure every Member of Congress, your local newspapers and radio shows, and your friends know how most Americans really feel about these issues.
With these poll results, isn't it time for both Obama and Boehner to scrap their proposals and start over?
In fact, wouldn't this be a great time to pass the H.R. 2124 bill by Rep. John Barrow (D-Georgia) which would put new requirements on the government to carry out the unfulfilled enforcement promises made in the immigration bills starting with the blanket amnesty of 1986?

'Bamacrats and sellout Repubs want amnesty, Americans want jobs for Americans. Actually if we look at regulations for obtaining work permits in European Union countries, we find a very strong bias in favor of hiring nationals. Looks to me as if the greatest country in history is the only one where reserving benefits for its own people is considered undesirable.

IMO patriots will have to overcome Demo and Repub treachery, and media bias. I hope that we can reserve our resources first for our own people, but to paraphrase a civil rights slogan, patriotism is a constant struggle.
