Rick Perry Doesn’t Think Senators Make Good Presidents [VIDEO]

Rick Perry ridiculed Barack Obama and Sen. Marco Rubio on Tuesday asking, “are we going to take a chance on another young and inexperienced United States Senator?”

The former governor of Texas joined Alyson Camerota on CNN’s “New Day” and touted his experience running the Lone Star state, saying, “Nobody on the debate stage has the record of job creation, no one’s got the 14 years of being the chief executive of the 12th largest economy in the world” as he does.

Camerota: You know Politico, here’s the irony in all of this, Politico that did that poll about the caucus goers, also calls you, they describe you as having a great record in office, having a superb message, having the best retail political game on the ground. So is there something wrong with the system that a guy like you, who again, is described as, checking all of these boxes isn’t getting more traction this year?

Perry: Well, I try to remind people that this is a marathon and not a sprint. So we’re taking a lot of snapshots at this particular point in time. So you’re correct in all of those. Nobody on the debate stage has the record of job creation, no one’s got the 14 years of being the chief executive of the 12th largest economy in the world. And Americans have to ask themselves, as Iowans are just starting to focus on this. Do we want an individual who has a real record of running a, a major, major in the case of Texas, an entity in that’s about the same size of Canada or Australia, or are we going to take a chance on another young and inexperienced United States Senator like Barack Obama who’s got our country in, I think off track economically and certainly foreign policy wise as well.

Doesn't or didn't Texas rank as the second largest state of illegal aliens in the United States under Rick Perry? Second only to California? Didn't he give DREAMers in-state tuition and tell Mitt Romney who didn't think that was right that Mitt didn't have a heart?

Q: [to Romney]: In Massachusetts, you vetoed legislation to provide interstate tuition rates to the children of illegals. Gov. Perry signed the Texas Dream Act to do exactly that, arguing that it's better to get these kids an education and to get them jobs than to consign them just to being a burden on the state.

ROMNEY: It's an argument I just can't follow. If you're an illegal alien, you get an in-state tuition discount of $22,000 a year. That shouldn't be allowed.

PERRY: If you say that we should not educate children who have come into our state for no other reason than they've been brought there by no fault of their own, I don't think you have a heart. We need to be educating these children, because they will become a drag on our society. I think that's what Texans wanted to do. Out of 181 members of the Texas legislature, when this issue came up, only four dissenting votes. This was a state issue. Texans voted on it. And I still support it greatly.
