Democratic leadership more pro-war than GOP leadership

Democratic leadership in the Senate and House are more in favor of military action in Syria than Republican leadership in either chamber.
Four out of eight members of Democratic leadership have stated they would support involvement, while the other four remain undecided but seem to lean toward an attack.
Meanwhile, just two out of 10 members of Republican leadership support a resolution to attack Syria. Two more are currently against but may be swayed. Rep. James Lankford, R-Okla., is firmly against military action and the rest are either skeptical or undecided.
Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.: For intervention. "I believe the use of military force against Syria is both justified and necessary,” Reid said in a press release.
Majority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill.: For intervention. “If we can do something to discourage Assad and others like him from using chemical weapons without engaging in a war and without making a long-term military commitment of the United States, I’m open to that debate,” Durbin said in a press release.
Policy Committee Chair Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y: Undecided. “The American people really want us to focus on America, on jobs and the economy and the middle class and nobody wants to be involved in a third land war after Iraq and Afghanistan,” Schumer told a New York news station. He also indicated that the current proposal wouldn’t pass as is.
Conference Secretary Patty Murray, D-Wash.: Undecided. “So while I have very serious concerns about any military action that would further strain our nation’s service members and limited resources, I also know that, to this point, the President has only discussed considering limited, targeted actions,” Murray said in a press release.
Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.: For intervention. “This is behavior outside the circle of civilized human behavior and we must respond,” Pelosi said in a press release.
Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md.: For intervention. “I believe that the Syrian regime must know that their blatant violation of international norms will be met with a strong response,” Hoyer said in a press release.
Assistant Democratic Leader Jim Clyburn, D-S.C: Undecided. “I reserve judgment on Syria until a resolution and more details are forthcoming,” Clyburn told the Washington Post.
Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra, D-Calif.: Undecided, according to the Post.
