While Media Does Victory Dance I Get My Letter Telling Me I Have To Buy New Insurance

The letter came in the mail yesterday as everyone mocked the Tea Party Republicans for trying to halt Obamacare. I wish they’d tried harder.
Name-Withheld Health and Life Insurance Company will offer individual health plans that comply with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) beginning January 1, 2014.
Since your current health plan does not meet all the ACA requirements it will terminate upon its first renewal on or after January 1, 2014. Prior to your renewal date, we will send you a proposal for health plans that most closely match your current benefits. These plans will comply with the ACA. Along with the proposal, we will include information on other individual plans we actively market. At renewal, you may choose the proposed plan or select any other plan in our suite of available products.
There is nothing you need to do at this time. This letter is simply a notification.
Well, good. That gives me time to gnash my teeth and tear my garments and put dust on my head.
I have no intention of sharing all my private data on a website so it can store it and not offer me insurance. Some cursory research indicates I am going to have to pay out many thousands more a year. I don't know for sure yet, but it doesn't look good.
The letter just arrived today but is dated, September 30—an obvious ruse to pretend to have met the ninety-day deadline.
My inability to allow myself or my family to go without insurance has been a constant source of frustration. The only thing I have been able to afford over the past years was an extremely high deductible emergency policy. As a result, I simply don’t go to the doctor and I only take the kids where there is a serious problem. If something serious had happened I would have been thankful for the policy. I’m more thankful that God has granted me that I never have needed to use it. In the meantime we work at paying off the few real medical bills we have.
So now Obamacare is taking that away from me. I’m going to be forced to pay for stuff I don’t believe I can afford. More, I’m going to be forced to pay for other people’s problems that neither one of us can afford.
And what if I find out I get “a great deal”? Maybe my income is low enough that I can get the rest of you reading this to subsidize my health “insurance.” What good will that do? I’ll always know that it can all be taken away either when there is a collapse or when I step out of line. A man who lied to me and said I could keep my insurance if I liked it can’t be trusted when he robs me of it.
I’ll survive on Obamasnare as best I can because I have to. But I know the truth. I know that avarice and malice are the substance of this plan, not good will or charity. And I know this is only the beginning of a long and growing hatred on my part.
I hope you’ll join me in that. It is about the only hope for change that is left.

More Than Half of U.S. Fast Food Workers on Public Aid



The Los Angeles Times, in its effort to support the unionizing of the fast-food industry, quotes a report by economists at UC Berkeley and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign that asserts more than half of families of fast food workers get financial aid totaling $7 billion yearly from the federal government.
The Times writes that the report was “distributed by a group that has been pushing for union representation and higher wages for fast food workers.” So which group was that? The Times does not say, and there is no link to the group or the report.
According to the Times, the report explains that fast-food workers earn an average of $8.69 an hour, working fewer that 40 weekly hours so they can qualify for food stamps, Medicaid, and tax credits. The Times claims the report states that about $3.9 billion a year is spent on Medicaid as well as children’s healthcare for the workers and their families.
