The administration still has yet to fence in any new miles of border with President Trump’s wall, a top Homeland Security official acknowledged Thursday — though he said that’s not the right way to look at the problem.
Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan told reporters that 78 miles of wall has been erected under Mr. Trump, but all of it has replaced outdated fencing or barriers that had previously existed.
None of it has blocked off a portion of the border where there wasn’t previously some type of barrier.

Mr. Morgan, though, said the replacement wall is so good that he calls all of it “new.”
“Every mile of wall that’s being built is a new mile of wall,” he said.

He said ground has finally been broken in Texas on a section of land where no barrier exists right now, which will be brand new wall that protects a currently unfenced area.

I am glad new walls are being built where existing barriers are falling down or are not adequate.

Those pitiful structures are in place, so not much resistance in replacing them, on existing boundaries.

At least the wall is moving forward any way we can get it.

I think a lot of "new" building has to do with local opposition to get the "new" walls up and built where this is nothing. One hurdle at a time, it will get built.

Clarification: It's not a wall, it's a see through fence.

Yep, I get a knot in my stomach each time Trump boast about all the beautiful new wall he is having erected. Oh, and yes he is falsely giving the impression that he is having brand spanking new "walls" built in places where there was no previous fencing, while almost everyone listening to him knows he is lying through his teeth because all that is being done is replacement fencing.

There are NO new walls being built and every time Trump says there are, he sounds foolish because most of us know better!

I will take the see through fence. Better than nothing and those stupid 3' barriers are worthless.

If Hillary won there would be no fence, no border, and 500,000 day would be pouring across.

Every damn corrupt country in the world would empty their prisons and ship them over!

Trump needs to DEMAND these countries relocate these illegal aliens within their own countries.

No asylum!

They are economic migrants coming here for jobs and free stuff off the back of our hard work building this Nation.

They flee "violence"...too damn bad! We have our own violence.

They can make up their fake documents, move within their country, and make a new life there.
