Brussels, Belgium (CNN)Two explosions occurred at the airport Brussels, Belgium.

Federal police at the airport at Zaventem told CNN that "there has been an explosion" and "something has happened."

The Brussels airport tweeted that there have been two explosions and said that "the building" is being evacuated.

Anthony Barrett said he heard something at about 8 a.m. local time from his hotel across from the terminal building.

"When I opened the curtains and looked out, I could see people fleeing," he told CNN.

He said he's seen about 19 or 20 stretchers carrying people so far. Luggage trollies were also being used to transport the wounded.

"It's clearly a very serious incident," he said.

It's unclear what caused the explosions, or if they're related to terrorism.

The airport is currently being evacuated and a disaster plan has been initiated, according to CNN affiliate RTL. Passengers have been directed to the runways.

Witnesses told RTL at least one of the two explosions took place in the airport's departure hall.

The incident comes after Salah Abdeslam, a man who authorities say was involved in the Paris terror attacks last year, was arrested in the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek on Friday.

Trump on Brussels Attack: ‘I Would Close Up Our Borders to People Until We Figure Out What Is Going On’


Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump reacted to the apparent terrorist attack that resulted in at least 28 dead and 130 injured in Brussels earlier in the day.

Trump made the case to close the U.S. borders until “we figure out what is going on.”

“I would close up our borders to people until we figure out what is going on,” Trump said. “Look at Brussels, look at Paris, look at so many cities that were great cities. Paris is almost as bad. If you look at Paris – Paris is no longer the city of lights. Paris has got a lot of problems. And all you have to do is speak to the people who live there. You look at other places where this same thing has happened.”

“And they’re in fear. Their city is in fear. And we have to be smart in the United States,” he continued. “We’re taking people without real documentation. We don’t know where they’re from, who they are. If you look at it from any standpoint.

It could be ISIS. It could be ISIS-related. And we just don’t learn, we don’t learn. I mean, Brussels is an amazing example. Brussels is an absolutely crime-free city, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. And now you look at it and it’s a disaster.”

Trump is without a doubt the only person in the race for President of the United States who gets it. Absolutely, we need to close our borders to Muslim immigration until we have the ways and means to vet these people. It's not bigotry, it's common sense to protect the American People. No one outside the United States has any rights at all of any kind to enter the United States without our permission, and we have every right in the world to withhold that consent for any reason or no reason, the same as basic clauses in any contract.
