MSNBC says it has Trump's 2005 tax returns

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said on Twitter on Tuesday she had obtained Donald Trump's 2005 tax returns, and the White House responded by saying the president had paid $38 million in taxes on more than $150 million in income.

Maddow said she would reveal Trump's returns on her show at 9 p.m. EDT.

The White House did not release any documents supporting its numbers. It said Trump, as head of the Trump Organization, had a responsibility "to pay no more tax than legally required."

As a presidential candidate, Trump declined to release his tax returns despite decades of precedent.

Trump declared a $916 million loss on his 1995 New York State income tax returns. The Trump campaign objected to publication of those 20-year-old returns, alleging that they were illegally obtained.

If a person does not make them available, how would the media obtain them - other than illegally.

If they publish, couldn't they be sued?

I've been watching Fox News every since the news report came out. From everything I'm hearing over the last couple hours is ......... pretty much nothing of interest. In other words, nothing to see here folks, just move along. Yep, as Ted Cruz would say, "it's a nothing burger."

Who released the returns that only Trump and the IRS have? I'm betting it's the IRS.

You mean a CPA firm may have leaked Trump's tax return to the press?! That's an earth-shattering possibility, because that means no one can trust their tax accountant to maintain the privacy of their income tax returns.
