(CNN) — Preliminary information indicates 10 people were killed and more than 20 others injured in a shooting at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College on Thursday, said Oregon State Police spokesman Bill Fugate.

The reports suggest that the shooter has been detained, he said.
Earlier, authorities told CNN they were responding to reports of an active shooter at the Roseburg college campus.

ROSEBURG, Ore. – Fifteen people are confirmed dead after a shooting incident at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore., according to the Oregon State Police.

Several other people are reported to be injured.

A school official told a reporter shots were fired at Schneider Hall around 10:30 a.m.. The official said the school was locked down.

People are being asked to stay away from the campus.

It was not imediately known if the shooter or shooters had been captured.

The college is about 180 miles south of Portland.

Umpqua Community College has about 3,000 students. Its website was down Thursday.

At least 15 people are dead and 20 injured after a shooting at a community college in Oregon Thursday morning, officials said.

The shooter, who has not been identified, is also dead, according to Roseburg Police Sgt. Aaron Dunbar.

The shooting at Umpqua Community College started at 10:38 a.m., police said.

Oregon State Police later said at least 15 people had died, but a final number of fatalities has still not been confirmed.

Mercy Medical Center, a local Roseburg hospital, received nine patients and is expecting three more, a spokesperson wrote on Facebook.

The shooter at the Roseburg campus is "down," an official told the Daily News.


"Please continue to pray," the message reads.
Several message boards noted the shooter may have revealed his plans Wednesday night in posts on the website 4chan.

"Some of you guys are alright. Don't go to school tomorrow if you are in the northwest," one post reads.
"happening thread will be posted tomorrow morning...so long space robots"

After the shooting, users on several message boards discovered a post on 4chan believed to be an early warning from the shooter.


Another message is addressed to "fellow robots" and wishes readers "an enjoyable Elliot Rodger day," referencing the man who killed six people near the Santa Barbara University campus last year.

"Personally I will mark this day's celebration of our Hero's deeds by announcing that I have an elaborate plan...Needless to say; it shall be glorious. The horrible kind of normies will pay for their misdeeds, and the world will be bettered."

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said President Obama had been briefed on the tragedy by his Homeland Security advisor.

Earnest swiftly said the shooting was yet another call for stronger gun control.

"The president has been quite candid about how this is and has been a source of frustration for him," he said in a statement.

The two-year school, located about 67 miles south of Eugene, has roughly 3,300 full-time students and 16,000 part-time students, according to its website.

This is the 34th time since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School that someone was killed by gunfire at a school, according to Everytown for Gun Safety.

The suspect was not identified but CNN reported it was a man in his late 20s.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — The latest on the deadly shooting Thursday at a community college in Oregon (all times local):
2:10 p.m.

A student at the Oregon community college where a mass shooting occurred says the gunman shot her teacher and asked others in her classroom about their religion before spraying more bullets.

Eighteen-year-old Kortney Moore of Rogue River tells the Roseburg News-Review newspaper that she was in a writing class at Umpqua (UHMP'-kwah) Community College in Roseburg on Thursday when a shot came through a window.

The gunman entered her classroom and told people to get on the ground.

Moore says the man started asking people to stand up and state their religion and then opened fire.

The shooting left 13 people dead and at least 20 injured.

Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin says authorities responded and exchanged gunfire with the man. He says the shooter died at the scene, but he didn't say whether the man killed himself or was shot by police.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown says the gunman in a deadly mass shooting at a community college was a 20-year-old man.

Authorities say the man is dead after killing 13 people and injuring at least 20 others at Umpqua (UHMP'-kwah) Community College in Roseburg, about 180 miles south of Portland.
