Donald Trump: I would send Syrian refugees home
2 hours ago
From the section US & Canada
Donald Trump has said he would send home all Syrian refugees the US accepts, if he becomes president.
The billionaire, who is the current frontrunner in the Republican race for the White House, told a New Hampshire rally: "If I win, they're going back."
It marks a reversal in policy - earlier this month he told Fox News the US should take in more refugees.
A migrant crisis has gripped parts of Europe and the US has pledged to take 10,000 refugees from Syria next year.
Half a million people have crossed the Mediterranean into Europe in 2015, with the largest number from Syria, where 250,000 people have been killed in a civil war.
On Wednesday night, Mr Trump told an audience at Keene High School: "I hear we want to take in 200,000 Syrians. And they could be - listen, they could be Isis [Islamic State]."
Describing them as a "200,000-man army", he later added: "I'm putting the people on notice that are coming here from Syria as part of this mass migration, that if I win, if I win, they're going back."
Mr Trump has made immigration a central plank of his election campaign, pledging to build a wall on the southern border.
He was harshly criticised after saying undocumented Mexican immigrants were "bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists".
His latest comments about sending Syrians home are more in line with his hardline immigration policy, although at odds with what he said earlier this month.
Asked whether he thought some of the migrants travelling into Europe should be allowed in the US, the business mogul said: "I hate the concept of it, but on a humanitarian basis, with what's happening, you have to."
He blamed President Barack Obama for the crisis and added: "It's living in hell in Syria. They are living in hell."
The US has allowed 1,500 Syrians to re-settle since the start of the conflict four years ago.
A number of Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, have urged the US to increase the number of Syrians from 10,000 to 65,000.
US Secretary of State John Kerry has pledged to take more refugees worldwide, raising the yearly cap from 70,000 to 85,000 next year and to 100,000 in 2017.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

If they are here under refugee status, I believe they are legal. Where does he get authority to send legal residents home. He talks often of dong things that remind me that possibly he would assume constitutional powers as we have a president doing. Is that healthy? Is that something we encourage repeating?

What's the difference between a President letting them in than a President making them leave? Is our country stuck with the bad decisions of one Executive because the next Executive can't undo the mistake? If one President commits US to war can the next President not end it?
The law says that if admitted as a refugee you must apply for permanent status within 1 year after you arrive. That does not guarantee you permanent resident status. Your application for permanent status can be denied and that's without taking into account any fraud, lies on the request for refugee status, and I'm sure, something in the Patriot Act gives a President some means of protecting the people of the United States.
So for a candidate to assert that if this President does the unthinkable and allows "refugees" to enter the United States, seems perfectly reasonable to me. We don't have the jobs or money to take in any more immigrants, let alone refugees with nothing but a bag of water bottles on them to enter the US from Syria or anywhere else.
This is why we need at least a 10 to 20 Year Moratorium on All Immigration. But I see that Congress is far too busy picking on pregnant girls and women with the goal of forcing them into childbirth against their will, to do anything that would actually serve or protect our nation.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

ok guys, please show us where Congress has put these refugee programs in place that Obama is using??? Or is this just another one of his "Executive Actions" ???
For your concerns about Trump exceeding his power by sending the Syrian refugees back, please locate and cite for us the current US laws Trump would be violating.
Prior US Presidents did not chose to or engage in acts of flooding America with large numbers of Muslim "refugees" but Obama is. By what mechanisms and are they based in legislation and laws or just more of Obama's "discretionary actions" ???
Many of these Muslims being imported will be willing to mass murder Americans like us and our families, so instead of throwing rocks at Trump about his Constitutional authority in this matter how about finding some background information to support or refute those concerns?
I agree we do not want to replace one tyrant like Obama with another like Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio would certainly be. But to bash the only candidate we know of that is currently making statements so clearly aligned with the goals of the ALIPAC organization should take a bit more research and documentation folks.
Yes, many people... myself included... are wondering if Trump is for real or a con man. So I will say this. If Trump ascends to the Presidency based on these promises and then betrays the American public on this he will go down in history as the most hated President in US history and I believe that the resulting backlash would consume and destroy him and perhaps the rest of the US Government with him.
If there were another candidate making the kinds of promises Trump is making, then there would be a point to debating which one was the most trustworthy, but since Trump is the only one that makes such a debate moot.

Thank you for the response! I was in the process of responding myself....
My first impression of the Syrian people fleeing thier country because of ISIS attacks was... "Oh my, those poor women and children - someone has to help them". I saw pictures of women and children outside borders where countries were not letting them enter. As a mother of two and a grandmother of one I cried!! Thinking about it now makes me tear up! It is a very sad situation. So, my first response as a mother and as a human was OH GOD PLEASE HELP!
But then reality sets in... The reality is that we do not know who these people are, but they are coming from an area otherwise known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria: A group of people coming from an area of the world that we know to be terrorists. A group that is responsible for attacks on US soil. These people's beliefs are scary.
So, I can see where Trump is coming from. The first response is one of humanity.... but the second response to send them all back is one of reality! We have to be certain of who we are allowing in this country - for the sake of the citizens of this country!
I still stand behind Trump! He is still bringing up issues that the silent majority resonates with daily. For now, and hopefully into the future Trump will continue to be my voice for a safer America!

Excerpt:
Why Refugees Cannot Lose Status Based on Improved Country Conditions
If you entered the United States as a refugee (through USRAP), you will probably not be sent back if and when conditions in your home country improve or change after you resettle in the United States.
That is because the law does not require that you continue to meet the definition of a refugee in order to keep your status as a refugee. The only exception to this rule would be if you did not meet that definition in the first place.
The classic (but perhaps not the only) situation of someone not originally meeting the definition of a refugee is one in which the applicant lied or committed fraud. This could come to the U.S. government’s attention if, for example, the refugee’s subsequent travels to the home country suggest that he or she did not really experience past persecution there. It could also surface when the refugee later (one year or more after obtaining refugee status) applies for permanent residence (a green card).
In such a case, the refugee should at least receive a letter from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) stating its intent to terminate the status and giving 30 days in which to show (in an interview or in writing) why refugee status should not be terminated.

How many refugees does the U.S. admit?
Each year the President, in consultation with Congress, determines the numerical ceiling for refugee admissions. For Fiscal Year (FY) 2015, the ceiling is 70,000.
Refugee Ceilings and Admitted Refugees to the U.S., FY 2009-2014- Almost half of all refugee arrivals (46.4 percent, or 32,450) in FY 2014 came from the Near East/South Asia—a region that includes Iraq, Iran, Bhutan, and Afghanistan.

Congress needs to move the ceiling to Zero and protect the United States.
Also, Congress needs to pass a Moratorium on All New Immigration and reduce the number of Green Cards to Zero to protect the United States.
That said, the Executive Branch can decide whether or not to approve an application for a Green Card which is the route for permanent status, even for Refugees. Furthermore, Refugees can not apply for a green card or permanent status until after they've been in the US for 1 year. I thought they had to apply within that first year, but it's after the first year. So depending on when they get here if Obama is stupid enough to let them in, it's entirely within the realm of the next President to deny permanent status and require them to leave.

Green Card Through Refugee or Asylee Status
Refugees and asylees can apply for a green card.
If you were
admitted to the United States as:
a refugee
a qualifying family member of an asylee
Then you may apply for permanent residence
1 year after your entry into the United States
granted asylum in the United States
1 year after the grant of your asylum status
Note: As a refugee, you are required by law to apply for permanent resident status 1 year after being admitted to the United States. As an asylee, you are not required to apply for permanent resident status after being granted asylum for 1 year, although it may be in your best interest to do so.
For more information on how refugees, asylees, and their family members can apply for green cards see:
