Al Gore Chats With Donald, Ivanka Trump

Donald Trump and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, met with Al Gore, the former vice president and 2000 Democratic presidential nominee, on Monday in New York City.

Ivanka Trump to Focus on Climate Change

"I had a lengthy and very productive session with the President-elect," Gore said after the meeting. "It was a sincere search for areas of common ground. I had a meeting beforehand with Ivanka Trump. The bulk of the time was with the President-elect, Donald Trump. I found it an extremely interesting conversation, and to be continued, and I'm just going to leave it at that."

Gore was originally scheduled to meet only with Ivanka Trump at Trump Tower. It is unclear how his meeting with the president-elect came about.

Gore is a long-time environmentalist, both from his time as senator and vice president, and perhaps even more so, since his 2000 election defeat. His climate change activism won him and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

CNN reported Monday that Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, are moving to Washington. Anti-nepotism laws may prevent both from assuming official roles in the administration, but both are expected to take influential unofficial roles.

Ivanka Trump and her husband are believed to be the least conservative members of the Trump family. She has been pitched as a possible climate czar. It's been speculated she has more moderate views on climate change than her father. The president-elect's previous statements on climate change -- including remarking that climate change was a Chinese hoax (which he later denied saying) -- are controversial.

That isn't what he said. What he said was that the climate change accords were a Chinese hoax to get money out of the United States through an unfair trade deal, meaning the deals being made around climate change were a hoax, not climate change itself. He doesn't deny climate change, he's not sure of the degree to which it's caused by man or if it is, what we can do to change climate change.

Wonderful! Let's transition away from toxic energy forms whether it affects the climate or not. No more children with bald heads from chemo or hooked on inhalers for asthma.
21st century, let's progress as other country are - we are leaders, not followers.

obama can't do anything correctly, therefore many failures in clean energy. He actually took our $$incentives for solar energy and gave the production to a chinese company when we had trained workers here in the USA.

There are lots of bona fide solar energy deals going on. Many solar farms supplying utility companies especially out west where the sun days are numerous and the energy level produced very high. I don't think any of those boon-doggle companies Obama financed with the stimulus made it. I think they all went broke, 501 C 3 outfits. The ones I hear about are legitimate private industry developed solar companies.

With increasing energy efficiency, solar power and other smaller scale energy production starts to make more sense. I hear people out here in the Pac. NW knocking alternative energy all of the time---possibly because locally we do have a lot of boondoggles related to it. But in places like N Dakota or Texas they are very receptive to wind energy. And parts of the world that have 300 days of sun---why not develop solar resources? As a matter of fact the Pac. NW was leading the way a century ago with the alternative energy of the era----hydroelectric.

This could be a potentially huge market. That's not saying that the West should get categorically blamed for warming of the climate---because the release of greenhouse gases like methane has been going on for aeons in the tropics and the huge deserts in much of the world steadily absorb lots of heat. Still the world wants electrical energy products now, just like it wanted automotive products in the post WW2 era. It's a big market that we should tap into. It certainly won't hurt us, and at the same time gain points with Gore and Co.

All of the available means to supply energy should be used. Fossil fuels have kept our energy and electric bills low, important for families, the elderly, the poor. They are still the most reliable.

No subsidies should be given to these industries. Develop and compete.

Solar and wind will hopefully become more stable and affordable. Most Lawmakers don't want wind farms anywhere near them. They like to promote them but recognize the problems, visually, environmentally, and health wise.

Yes, Donald Trump did call climate change a Chinese hoax

By Louis Jacobson on Friday, June 3rd, 2016 at 12:00 p.m.

Donald Trump correct that 1 in 4 working-age Americans not employed

    Autoplay: On | Off

Hillary Clinton took on Donald Trump's foreign policy credentials in a speech June 2, 2016. During her take-no-prisoners foreign policy speech on June 2, Hillary Clinton reminded listeners of controversial things that Republican presidential rival Donald Trump has said over the years.
At one point, Clinton said, "Donald Trump says climate change is a hoax invented by the Chinese."

Did he? Yes, though he later said it was a joke.

The original source of this claim was a tweet Trump sent on Nov. 6, 2012, as we noted in a January 2016 fact-check of a similar claim by Clinton’s Democratic opponent, Bernie Sanders.

Trump’s tweet said, "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive."

So Clinton certainly has evidence to support her claim. But we should also note that Trump backed off his claim after Sanders noted them in January on NBC’s Meet the Press, calling the Chinese link a "joke."

On Jan. 18, after Sanders had attacked Trump’s climate change views in the Democratic debate, Trump told Fox & Friends, "Well, I think the climate change is just a very, very expensive form of tax. A lot of people are making a lot of money. I know much about climate change. I'd be — received environmental awards. And I often joke that this is done for the benefit of China. Obviously, I joke. But this is done for the benefit of China, because China does not do anything to help climate change. They burn everything you could burn; they couldn't care less. They have very — you know, their standards are nothing. But they — in the meantime, they can undercut us on price. So it's very hard on our business."
Trump may call the mention of China’s role a joke, but he certainly has a lengthy record of using the word "hoax" to describe climate change. (For the record, in 2014 we rated the claim that climate change is a "hoax"Pants on Fire.)

On Dec. 30, 2015, Trump told the crowd at a rally in Hilton Head, S.C., "Obama's talking about all of this with the global warming and … a lot of it's a hoax. It's a hoax. I mean, it's a money-making industry, okay? It's a hoax, a lot of it."
That’s three times using "hoax" in one sentence. Trump has also used the word on Twitter since his 2012 tweet.

On Jan. 25, 2014, Trump tweeted, "NBC News just called it the great freeze — coldest weather in years. Is our country still spending money on the GLOBAL WARMING HOAX?"

On Jan. 29, 2014, Trump tweeted: "Snowing in Texas and Louisiana, record setting freezing temperatures throughout the country and beyond. Global warming is an expensive hoax!"

That same day, he tweeted, "Give me clean, beautiful and healthy air - not the same old climate change (global warming) bullshit! I am tired of hearing this nonsense."

Trump also called climate change a "hoax" on the Jan. 6, 2014, edition ofFox & Friends.

In addition, he said on the Sept. 24, 2015, edition of CNN’s New Day, "I don’t believe in climate change."

And on Jan. 18, 2016, Trump said that climate change "is done for the benefit of China, because China does not do anything to help climate change."

We didn’t find Trump using the word "hoax" in the months since our previous fact-check, but he hasn’t backed off his aggressive skepticism of climate change and policies designed to alleviate it. In fact, he’s enshrined opposition to climate change efforts as a key part of his platform.

In a high-profile speech on energy policy in North Dakota on May 26, 2016, Trump attacked "draconian climate rules." He advocated rescinding "all the job-destroying Obama executive actions, including the Climate Action Plan" and said he would "cancel the Paris Climate Agreement and stop all payments of U.S. tax dollars to U.N. global warming programs."

"President Obama entered the United States into the Paris Climate Accords unilaterally and without the permission of Congress," Trump said. "This agreement gives foreign bureaucrats control over how much energy we use right here in America."

    Our ruling

Clinton said, "Donald Trump says climate change is a hoax invented by the Chinese."

Trump did tweet that view in 2012, though he made efforts earlier this year to describe that remark as a "joke."

However, Trump has repeatedly called climate change a "hoax" in speeches, tweets and media appearances, and while he hasn’t necessarily repeated the charge that China "invented" climate change, he has said as recently as Jan. 18, 2016, that action on climate change "is done for the benefit of China."

We rate the claim Mostly True.

Geez, you don't even read your own posts. He called global warming a hoax, not climate change. Big difference. He said the concept of global warming was created by the Chinese to make US manufacturing non-competitive which is what it'll do if we pursue these carbon credits the Democrats were all hot to trot over.

Trump supports all types of energy including alternatives to fossil fuels. But he doesn't want to force one at the expense of another, he wants them all so energy will be in abundance and cheap. It's far too expensive right now in most states.

Global warming just might be something they brought out to snow everyone, keep the debate on that and off our real environmental problems. After all, it seems it can't be proven - or at least scientists are still debating it - so the powers that be can keep this going forever, even start taxing some people, and who can prove them wrong?

Why don't we simply concentrate on what it takes to make our air cleaner, our water cleaner, and our food cleaner.

We have a lot of wind farms in West Texas and room for many more.
Our city made a deal with the energy company and our electricity bill has gone down significantly. Other than putting in a 'smart meter', and refusing to remove it unless we pay them $150 and an extra $50 a month, I'm happy.

There's room for solar farms. We have a lot of land out there that looks like it would be just right for solar farms.

Do wind generators make a noise? You can't hear them from the highway passing through. They are kinda pretty, kinda like a ballet.

Actually, they are nicer to look at than the oil pumps. Although, the sound and sight of oil pumps is a part of the state - and for a lot of us - our memories.

So don't subsidize alternative energy - but let's make sure we don't subsidize fossil fuel companies either - or any other corporations, for that matter.

Yeah, I like the wind turbines, too, except that they kill the birds. The birds can't see them because they're gray or silver and fly into them. If they would paint them a bright or deep color, like green, then the birds might be able to see them as objects and fly around them. There might also be some sonar device they could install at the sites that would divert the birds away from the area. They should look into it and experiment with solutions for this, because we have a lot of wind, it's clean and it's free!!
