With Donald Trump as Presumptive Nominee, Massachusetts Republicans Ponder Next Steps

With Donald Trump as Presumptive Nominee, Massachusetts Republicans Ponder Next Steps

Gov. Charlie Baker said he will vote, but isn't sure if he'll write in a candidate

Now that Donald Trump is officially the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Massachusetts' governor, like many moderate New England Republicans, is not quite sure what he'll do on Election Day.

"I've already said before that I'm not going to vote for Mr. Trump," said Gov. Charlie Baker. "I sincerely doubt I'll be voting for Hillary Clinton, either."

Baker was asked if he'd do a write-in vote.

"It'll depend who else is on the ballot, I suppose," he said.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker says he won't vote for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton if the two candidates end up on the ballot in November. (Published Wednesday, May 4, 2016)

The governor's remarks came on the same day that John Kasich suspended his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. Ted Cruz dropped out of the race on Tuesday night after losing Indiana to Trump. That leaves Trump as the only Republican contender still in the race, all but ensuring that he will be the Republican nominee.

Baker at least plans to vote. Former Massachusetts Republican chair Jennifer Nassour says she won't. She is incredulous, but mainly sad, she says, that her lifelong party has gotten behind the reality TV star.

"I think that he's unstable," Nassour said. "I think that he's going to be dangerous. I think that the best case scenario is that he just damages the Republican Party."

Nassour expects many Republicans to vote for Hillary Clinton - like Mark Salter, a former strategist to Republican Senator John McCain.

"The GOP is going to nominate for President a guy who reads the National Enquirer and thinks it's on the level," he tweeted. "I'm with her."

The "vote for Hillary" option is definitely not happening for Republican political consultant Patrick Griffin, who opposes Trump and is hoping he will now start to channel his ability to energize the electorate in a positive direction.

"It seems to me Trump has an opportunity," Griffin said. "The question is can he pivot into acting presidential, which so far he has not done."

"It's odd and it's disappointing," Baker said of the situation he's now in. "I certainly have found this to be one of the most troubling election cycles across the board I've seen in my lifetime."

I just heard an interview with Jennifer Nassour who is quoted in this article. There was no article on her just given interview on MSNBC yet. But this is what she said about why she isn't voting for Trump:

    1. her grandparents are immigrants and she lived with them and hates Trump for wanting to stop illegal immigration
    2. she has a child with down syndrome and hates Trump because she thinks he makes fun of disabled people
    3. she is a woman and doesn't like his attacks on women

OH GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY, you stupid moron.

If you're a citizen of the United States, Donald Trump supports you. His opposition to immigration is illegal immigration, excess immigration and immigration that threatens the national security of the United States. What other worrisome crap you may have in your background has absolutely nothing to do with this campaign.

Donald Trump has never made fun of a disabled person in his life. The dishonest media made a big thing about his gestures referring to grovelling that I've seen him use or start to use in referring to other grovelers, when the reporter happened to have some type of disability. Trump said honestly that he understood why people who saw the film misconstrued it, but he wasn't referring to or mocking the reporter's disability, he was mocking his grovelling over disclaiming his own article that to some degree at least confirmed Trump's statements about Muslims cheering on the roofs during and after 9/11.

Donald Trump has never made rude or sexist or misogynist comments against women except as publicity stunts in the case of Rosie O'Donnell or having fun on the Howard Stern Show or making hay in some men's magazine 20 or more years ago, none of which have anything to do with reality or how he treats women in his family, business, society and most certainly not in politics.

So, my guess is the real reason Jennifer Nassour opposes Trump is because Trump is going after the hedge funds and her husband is an "investment manager".

Whatever her personal issues may be, they are her problems, not our country's. The United States is not required to support illegal immigration because your grandparents were immigrants. The United States is not required to accept Muslim immigrants because a reporter tried to grovel and back-track an article he wrote who happened to have some disability and the United States is not required to throw our country over the cliff because Donald Trump had some publicity fun on the Howard Stern Show 20 years ago or counter-punched Rosie O'Donnell as part of a publicity stunt for the The View decades ago.

Donald Trump has done more for legal immigrants, women and people with disabilities than all of his opposition combined. He hires legal immigrants, he hires women, he hires and provides for people with disabilities. None of his opposition has done a damn thing for anyone.

It's time for all Americans to unite behind Donald Trump. It's time for US citizens eligible to vote in US elections to choose a candidate who doesn't just talk, but who actually walks the walk. Donald Trump has not only walked the line, he's advanced the line. Donald Trump has actually raised the standards for the betterment of Americans with issues. I never thought being a woman was being an American with an issue, I still don't, but for those who are still allowing themselves to play victim to their own victimization, I say:

STOP IT. STOP thinking about what you think you want, and instead focus on what our country needs.

Republicans were never about ourselves. Republicans were always about our nation and rules, laws and policies that benefited everyone in our country legally. It is that belief, that principle, that "value", that ended slavery, established equal rights, won voting rights for women, that passed the American Disabilities Act, that built the transcontinental railroad, that established our national park system, that built our interstate highway system, and established OSHA to protect our workers and EPA to protect our environment.

But now our country is sinking faster than the Titanic under the weight and burden of bad trade deals and uncontrolled massive immigration which have caused enormous economic loss across the country, increased unemployment and poverty to astounding numbers, and the cost of it pushed our national debts to over $20 trillion paying for the consequences.

It's time for Silly Elites to stop making the election of a President personal to their own issues. It's time to think beyond yourselves and your issues. It's time to put your country first, because after you've destroyed ours, let me assure you, you will have nowhere to run. If that's what you want for yourselves or your children, then shame on you and you weren't worth the time it took to write this post.

Silly Elites they are! It's why Donald Trump is winning. Americans are tired of silly, sick of stupid and no longer tolerate incompetence and self-interest in our government and political functions. Government service is public service. It's time every single American remembered that. If you want to get rich, then you go work your ass off 80 to 100 hours a week in a constant high-risk "winner take all" every day business environment. If you want to serve your country, you do your job at what the people can afford to pay you, and you spend every day protecting their interests, serving their needs, and securing the country in which they live, the United States of America. You say "bye bye" to your personal beliefs, you bid adieu to your own preferences, you sayonara to your own needs, you do no harm, and focus solely on advancing America First and the American People Foremost.

There's nothing complicated about this. It's very simple. It's what every entry level soldier knows when they sign up to risk their lives for it.
