Donald Trump vows to win: 'I'm not going anywhere'

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump forcefully rejected the idea Tuesday that he might be considering getting out of the race as his lead in the polls has contracted in recent weeks.

"I'm not going anywhere, I'm leading every poll and I'm going to make our country great again," Trump told CNN's Chris Cuomo on "New Day" on Tuesday morning.

"I'm not getting out. I'm going to win, OK?" Trump added. "The answer is: I'm going all the way and I'm going to win."

Trump said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press" that he would get out of the race if his poll numbers plummeted and he had no chance of winning, setting off speculation among pundits that Trump might soon drop out of the GOP presidential contest.

Trump remains the leading contender for the GOP nomination in all the major polls, but that lead has slipped in recent weeks as contenders like retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and businesswoman Carly Fiorina gain on the billionaire candidate.

The latest poll in Iowa from NBC News/Wall Street Journal shows Trump leading Carson by just 5 points, down from a double-digit lead just weeks ago. And in New Hampshire, Trump's lead has also slipped to 5 points ahead of Fiorina -- down from 10 points just two weeks ago.

Trump also took the opportunity Tuesday to once again slam Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, as a "total lightweight" and even knocked Rubio for past financial difficulties: "Take a look at his past, he's got $12 in the bank."

"Rubio is not the guy that's going to be negotiating with the kinds of people you have to negotiate with to turn this country around," Trump said.

Trump is in to win. He clarified this in a really great phone interview this morning on New Day/CNN. He was asked a question a few days ago, a simple question, about if he was losing in the polls would he get out, and Trump thinking and saying if I was at 1 or 2%, I would get out. Then the media goes crazy and construes that to mean he's going to get out if the race tightens or he's tied for first or is in 2nd or 3rd one place or another, and that's not the case at all.

TRUMP IS IN TO WIN FOR THE LONG-HAUL.

I listened to that whole interview, he was fired up, he wouldn't let them get a comment in, they'd start, he'd cut them off, at the end of the interview, you could see it on all 3 of the faces on New Day, thinking awesome, that is exactly the guy we need to negotiate everything and wish to hell I could say so. John King came on and totally supported Trump on guns and mental health issue. They were all very impressed, you could see it.

And then they ask one more question about Rubio, which gave Trump the perfect ending to the interview: The guy is a lightweight, he's got $12 in the bank, he works with a car dealer down in Florida, Rubio is not the guy that's going to be negotiating with the kinds of people you have to negotiate with to turn this country around."

And of course he's absolutely right.

No, it was genuine like, even the Hispanic lady who is a Bush and Rubio supporter couldn't help herself from saying nice things about Trump's interview. She finally composed herself towards the end of the show and said she didn't think Trump would ever not want the attention of being the race, but even as she was saying it, she realized that was a mistake because she was now assuring all the voters who do or might support Trump that he's in to win and will never quit.
