Don't Lose Focus! The Enemy Within

Don’t lose focus! This is the last week that we will be able to confront our Federal legislators in person.

The Senate is going to resume debate on amnesty the week of April 24th and Arlen Specter expects to bring this horrible amnesty to a vote by May 4th.

Learn to identify your most dangerous enemy; the enemy within. Check out this page with words of wisdom from the past; from Marcus Tullius Cicero (106BC-43BC), some photos of the enemy within as well as musical inspiration from Luca Zanna.

    According to Bay Buchanan:

“You and I are on the verge of the most critical week ever in our crusade for immigration reform, border security and the integrity of our national culture.

Our founding Chairman, Congressman Tom Tancredo, and the many opponents of amnesty in the House of Representatives are ready to fight hard against any amnesty bill the Senate votes out.

But a bad bill from the Senate…..one that calls for amnesty and guest workers ….puts Tom and our side in a tough negotiating position from the start.

That’s why I want to urge you again to pick up the phone and call BOTH your U.S. Senators. Even if one or both of your Senators are declared friends or opponents of amnesty ....please, I beg you, call them both and register your views today!

We must make our voice even louder! We simply can’t lose this one!

So if you are able this week I urge you to go to any town hall meetings or public events of your Congressman or Senators. Track them down in church if you have to. Also visit their offices, and keep calling them. Make certain they know where you stand!”

Bay has encouraged us to continue the pressure on our Reps also. We at the High Desert Minutemen and Fire Jerry Lewis have been focused on this tactic since the beginning and we are starting to make progress with our representative, Congressman Jerry Lewis. Below is the letter he released in response to our initial planning of a new protest. This letter marks a major change in his official position:

From: Jerry Lewis, 41st District, California
    April 10 2006

Thank you for contacting me to express concerns about immigration reform legislation currently being considered in the U.S. Senate. There is no question that this debate involves one of the most pressing issues facing Congress.

As you may know, the House of Representatives in December voted solidly to pass H.R. 4437, the Border Protection, Antiterrorism and Illegal Immigration Control Act. I cosponsored this legislation because I feel it is vital to gain control of our immigration enforcement system before we take any other steps to deal with illegal immigration.

H.R. 4437 gives us a chance to beef up enforcement by requiring businesses to check the validity of Social Security numbers for new employees, and report those that are inconsistent with the name given. This program has shown success among a small number of employers who have used it voluntarily in the past. The Social Security Administration has told Congress that it could be implemented for all employers at a relatively small expense.

The House bill would also increase penalties for alien smuggling, crack down on illegal immigrants who are gang members, increase penalties for those who repeatedly enter our nation illegally, create a new program for cooperation with local law enforcement, increase space to detain those awaiting deportation, and require deportation for aliens with multiple convictions for drunken driving.

An amendment added on the House floor would also construct more than 700 miles of new fences along the Mexican border to aid Border Patrol agents in preventing illegal entry.

Although there has been debate in the Senate over whether the bill should contain an amnesty or guest worker program, I believe the House will insist on passage of the enforcement bill first. Our past experience with immigration reform – the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act – shows that you cannot expect to simultaneously begin new enforcement measures at the same time as an amnesty program. In fact the “control” portion of the 1986 bill has been completely ineffective.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner and other members who will be assigned to the House-Senate conference committee understand the concerns of our constituents. Illegal Immigration is an expensive problem for law-abiding citizens. Americans and legal aliens have to pay more for police protection, for classrooms to educate our children, and for hospital and healthcare costs. This burden on the taxpayer is wrong. It undermines the economy, and puts undue pressure on people to pay even more in taxes to pay for those who are here in America.

Thank you again for showing your continuing concerns on this issue. I will certainly keep them in mind as we continue to consider the topic of immigration reform.

    Sincerely

    Jerry Lewis

We will encourage him to maintain the stance in his letter and let him know we are watching very closely.
This fax sent this morning to Washington and local office:

Dear Congressman Lewis, 16 April 2006

We very much appreciate your letter of 10 April 2006 referencing pending immigration reform legislation currently before the U.S. Senate.

We could not agree more with your position that it is vital to gain control of our immigration enforcement system before undertaking any other steps to deal with illegal immigration. We hope that you will insist on passage of an enforcement only bill first.

Furthermore we agree that you cannot expect to simultaneously begin new enforcement measures at the same time as an amnesty program.

Understand that the guest worker programs currently being discussed in the Senate are considered by most Americans as an amnesty.

In light of the discovery of Marxist and foreign government ties to the organizers of the recent pro-illegal alien mass demonstrations and threats to damage U.S. Commerce, particularly on May 1st, 2006 we feel it is prudent to consider all means necessary to protect critical national infrastructure. This should include the use of the military if needed.

This whole issue is moving away from guest worker programs and amnesties to the issue of a growing radical left wing insurgency. It has been widely reported that Democratic Party operatives are actively soliciting voter registrations from illegal aliens. This could result in a change in power from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party in the November elections. Please consider emergency legislation to enact a National Voter ID system to insure the integrity of our electoral process.

We fear that a revolt of the American People is very likely should an amnesty or guest worker program be passed by Congress. It appears that the People have gone far beyond the breaking point.

We would hope that you maintain an enforcement first position strongly. In this area we will whole heartedly support your efforts. We will be watching the votes closely as these bills move through the Senate and House.

    Thank You,

    For: firejerrylewis and highdesertminutemen

If Congress Does Not Hear Your Voice Back Home, Some May Waffle On Amnesty!
FAIR’s Government Relations staffers hear new reports each day like the one the Washington Post wrote on April 12:

“House Republicans are worried that a tough anti-illegal-immigration bill they thought would please their political base has earned them little benefit while becoming a lightning rod for the fast-growing national movement for immigrant rights.”
In the alert we sent you last Thursday, we asked you to meet your Senators and Representatives and tell them you oppose all forms of amnesty. This week, you must keep up the pressure: tell your Members of Congress that you want them to hold the line on enforcement and border security and to stand their ground against the Bush Amnesty!

Meet Your Member of Congress and Hold Your Own Demonstration
If you haven’t yet attended a town hall meeting, NOW IS THE TIME TO DO SO. During the Easter recess, House and Senate members are in their home districts holding meetings and events to learn what is on the minds of their voters. This is the ideal time for you HOLD YOUR OWN DEMONSTRATION. You’ve seen the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens—who cannot vote—marching in our streets demanding rights from us. Now you can show your members of Congress you vote and you do not support amnesty!

Call your Representative’s main district office (or Senator’s main state office) and ask when the town hall meeting or event is in your area.
Attend the meeting with family, friends and neighbors.
Take signs that read: No Retreat! No Surrender! No Amnesty!
Make sure you let your Representative or Senator know that you are watching the debate closely and that you oppose all forms of amnesty.
Click on these links to find the phone numbers for the Senate and House main district offices.

The media has given voice to millions of illegal aliens. Please continue to make your voice heard during this critical time! You are the key to winning this battle! Please take this opportunity to make a difference.

Congressman Tom Tancredo is working hard and FAIR members and supporters can join his efforts!
Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO), Chairman of the 96-member House Immigration Reform Caucus, will call on several members of the Senate this week to oppose any amnesty plan. As you call your own Senators and Representatives, please look at the calendar below and make some extra calls to help Congressman Tancredo push these “swing” Senators to ignore special interests and do the will of the American people—enforce our immigration laws NOW and stop all attempts to grant amnesty to illegal aliens. Let’s lend a helping call to Congressman Tancredo, who has given his leadership on this issue for years.

Congressman Tancredo is calling on these Senators to pledge to the people of their states that the Senator “will only support an enforcement bill that secures our borders and enforces the law and will not support a bill that includes amnesty for illegal aliens or a new foreign worker plan.”
