Dunkin' Donuts
A few weeks ago Dunkin' Donuts announced they would be using a voluntary federal program that checks new employees’ legal work status against government databases. Participation in the program, known as Basic Pilot, signals that the debate over how to prevent the widespread hiring of illegal immigrants is spreading to small businesses.
I wrote Dunkin' Donuts a very nice complementary letter thanking them for standing up for American rights to work and helping to end corporate greed by hiring cheap illegal immigrant workers.
The sent me a very nice letter back:

Thank you for taking the time to contact Dunkin' Brands. It was a pleasure hearing from you today.
At Dunkin' Brands we value our customers and are committed to making your visits to our stores a pleasant experience. Please accept the enclosed gift as a gesture of our appreciation for contacting us and for making our day a more pleasant one.
Sincerely,
Sherri

They sent us a gift certificate and of course I will not use it and will make it a point to go out very soon and buy something from Dunkin' Donuts. It is so pleasant to see that there are a few companies left in America that value American workers and our laws.Certified Member

Most of them in my area are run by people from India. I try to frequent the one near where I live.

They are opening one near my house soon. I will be sure to take my son for a treat when it is opened.
IMHO I believe that just like boycotting companies like absolut vodka, we need to go out of our way to support companies like Duncan Donuts.Proud American and wife of a wonderful LEGAL immigrant from Ireland.

Don't get all worked up with excitement folks. Dunkin Donuts is almost 60% franchise operated. The other 40% of the stores are corporate and they will be required to participate in the Basic Pilot program. The franchise stores will not be required to do any such thing or even if they do, there is no system of corporate HQ to check if the franchises are complying with the program.
Plus, the article says that they'll check the legal status of new hires. Do you know how many illegals already work in Dunkin Donuts??? Chances are you're still going to see Hispanic employees who don't speak a word of English and they'll be most likely illegal.

What ever the case, Dunkin' Brands is still responsible for their franchise operations. I am sure if we suspect one of them is hiring ILLEGALS it can be reported. At least the company had the huevos to tell the media they won't hire ILLEGALS. It would be nice if we could see more American companies publicly take that stance. While I am on the phone with them I will ask if francises will be made to verify employees.Certified Member
