Sen. Rand Paul Fires Back at ‘Misguided’ Bill Kristol for Questioning His Syria Stance

According to Mediaite before he voted “no” on the Senate Foreign Relation Committee’s Syria resolution that ended up passing 10-7 earlier today, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) appeared on Laura Ingraham’s radio show and responded to comments made yesterday by Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol on CNN. Asked what he thought of Kristol’s suggestion that Paul “does not have much support” from his fellow Republicans in opposing action in Syria, Paul offered some his ideological opponent some advice.
“He needs to travel a bit,” Paul suggested. He said that if it were allowed, he would like Kristol to visit a military base and ask soldiers if they want to go fight in Syria. If Kristol asked them, “Do you see a cause worth laying your life and your limbs on the line for in Syria?” Paul said he would hear a resounding no.
“The country is absolutely opposed to this,” Paul continued, calling anyone who feels otherwise “misguided.” Ingraham tried to goad Paul into revealing what he would say to his fellow Kentucky Republican senator Mitch McConnell to try to sway him to vote against the resolution in the Senate, but Paul declined. “I don’t think it’s my place to tell another senator how to vote,” Paul said, while vowing to continue expressing his “strong feelings” on the matter.
