EMERGENT ANTI-OBAMACARE SENATE CANDIDATE BREAKS FUNDRAISING RECORD IN NEBRASKA

EMERGENT ANTI-OBAMACARE SENATE CANDIDATE BREAKS FUNDRAISING RECORD IN NEBRASKA

by BREITBART NEWS 30 Sep 2013, 8:46 AM PDT 344 POST A COMMENT

A novice Republican running in a rural state has shattered fundraising records campaigning as the "anti-Obamacare candidate." In his first race for public office, Ben Sasse has raised nearly $750,000 in just eight weeks of the first quarter of his nascent candidacy, according to records being filed with the Federal Election Commission.

The massive haul highlights how lucrative campaigning against Obamacare can be for Republicans. It also underscores how deeply motivated conservative voters are to see that the sprawling healthcare law be killed.
A college president in his hometown of Fremont, Nebraska, Sasse is a newcomer to politics, but he has spent much of the past decade working on healthcare issues. As a top advisor to President Bush's Health Secretary, Sasse worked to cut red tape and pushed market-based solutions over government mandates. Sasse also spent several years traveling the country giving speeches and advising companies about the dangers of Obamacare and how it will hike costs, constrict innovation, and ultimately provide terrible health care.
"I am the anti-Obamacare candidate," Sasse said cheerfully. "Not only have I read the 2,300-page bill, I have actually spent years studying it and I understand just how devastating this will be to American businesses, families and taxpayers."
It was Sasse's health care expertise and his outspoken opposition to Obamacare that inspired former Nebraska GOP chairman Mark Fahleson to draft Sasse to run for the open seat left by Sen. Mike Johann's retirement.
"2014 and probably 2016 will be about one thing more than anything else," Fahleson said. "It will be about Obamacare and the false promises and reckless entitlement spending that are set to destroy this country. And I don't know anybody who knows more about it and is more honest about the problems of Obamacare than Ben."
Sasse's campaign comes just as the crusade against Obamacare has hit a fevered pitch in Washington.
"Ted Cruz has finally shown the Republican establishment in Washington just how fed up voters are with the federal government and the notion that bureaucrats know what is best for patients," said one political consultant who advised the Cruz campaign. "That's why a guy knowledgeable about healthcare like Ben Sasse being in the Senate would be the most destructive thing to ever hit Obamacare."
Sasse's cash haul of nearly $750,000 from individual donors in his first quarter breaks Nebraska's previous record of $526,000 from individual donors, set in 2007 by Johanns while he was sitting U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.
Shane Osborn, former state treasurer who has been running for the senate seat for six months, raised just $234,000 in his first quarter, according to FEC records.

Nebraska Senate Seat Battle Proves Americans Passionate In Hatred Of ObamaCare

There is something very interesting happening in the state of Nebraska. Not only is there a college president running for a US Senate seat, but this president is also highly credentialed…and a very anti-ObamaCare Republican.
Amazing as it seems, Ben Sasse is the current president of Midland University, a small college located in Fremont, Nebraska. He holds an undergrad degree from Harvard and a PhD from Yale (in history). Despite all of these, he is actually a very conservative Republican. And not only that, but he is actually billing himself as the anti-ObamaCare candidate.
Going a little bit deeper into his background will show just why he could be such an excellent choice for the Senate in the continuing fight over ObamaCare. Before he came to Midland University, this gentleman served as the chief of staff for the US Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Policy. This was from 2003 to 2005. Also, between 2007 and 2009 he was US assistant secretary of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush. It was in this role that he was able to travel throughout the country basically trying to get the government out of health care and put a free market in its place…something he really believes in (the free market).
Not only that, but Mr. Sasse is a very knowledgeable anti-ObamaCare candidate. He is probably one of the few people in government who has actually read the 2,300 page bill/law. Not only that, but he has spent years studying it and knows exactly why this will be a gigantic problem for American businesses and the economy of the entire nation.
The best part of all this is that the people of Nebraska (and really the entire country, since a Senate candidate is not limited to raising money only in their home state) have really responded strongly to his candidacy. He has literally just announced, and he has never held elected office before. Despite all of this, in just 8 weeks he has raised nearly $750,000. With that kind of money and backing, it is clear that he intends to mount a serious challenge to the current Senator Mike Johanns.

The very point of his entire candidacy is the fact that the American people have not given up and simply accepted ObamaCare. This is a hot issue which causes a lot of emotion and passion. In short, all those polls which show a continued decrease in support for ObamaCare are indeed accurate. And not only is this ‘lack of support,’ but it is actual hatred, distaste, and lack of confidence in the law and the president behind its promotion.
Another thing that this election shows is that people will respond to those politicians who are running against ObamaCare. This is actually, the only sure way to really defeat the law…we need to put a legislative majority in both houses of Congress who are in favor of repealing, stopping, defunding, or whatever else is required to send this horrible law to the final resting place that it truly deserves.
Here is a little taste of the courageous Senator Ted Cruz, as he began his historic filibuster last week in his opposition to ObamaCare:

So…what do YOU think? Does ObamaCare need to be overturned? What is the best way to do that? Will you commit to supporting politicians who pledge to vote to overturn ObamaCare?
