Fashion designer refuses to dress Melania Trump

Fashion designer refuses to dress Melania Trump

    11/18/16 12:47 PM EST

A fashion designer whose styles have been sported by Michelle Obama is boycotting dressing Melania Trump, saying she encourages “my fellow designers to do the same” when it comes to outfitting the next first lady.

"As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady," Sophie Theallet wrote in a letter this week.

“The rhetoric of racism, sexism, and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by,” Theallet wrote about President-elect Donald Trump.

“I encourage my fellow designers to do the same,” she continued.

“I am well aware it is not wise to get involved in politics,” the fashion maven wrote. “That said, as a family-owned company, our bottom line is not just about money. We value our artistic freedom and always humbly seek to contribute to a more humane, conscious and ethical way to create in this world.”

The allet appears to be the first designer to snub Melania Trump before the former model moves into the executive mansion. While other designers have spoken out against Donald Trump, they’ve still expressed a willingness to dress his wife.

"It would be hypocritical to say no to dressing a Trump," Marcus Wainwright of Rag & Bone, told The New York Times last week. "If we say we are about exclusivity and making American manufacturing great again, then we have to put that before personal political beliefs."

In her Thursday note, Theallet — whose outfits Michelle Obama has worn on multiple occasions — wrote, “As an immigrant myself in this country, I have been blessed with the opportunity to pursue my dreams in the USA. Dressing the First Lady Michelle Obama for the past 8 years has been a highlight and an honor.”

"The Sophie The allet brand stands against all discrimination and prejudice,” wrote The allet, saying the brand's runway shows, ad campaigns and celebrity dressings have been "a celebration of diversity."

    I wouldn't wear Michelle Obama's fashion designer's clothing.

Frankly I think it looks like old grandma, dated and butch.

LOL!! I didn't care for her clothes either but never wanted to say it. Somehow I think Melania Trump will have plenty of clothes to wear without the letter-writing immigrant snob. Theallet is like the bakers who refuse to make wedding cakes for gay couples. What a hypocrite! All equality-loving people should boycott her business and never be caught dead in one of her ugly outfits.

When you think about it, she probably wrote the letter refusing to "dress" the new First Lady because she knew Melania would never wear her outfits to begin with.

Michelle Obama is very manly looking and also in size proportion.

She has big neck, broad shoulders, fat arms and bow legged!

It's obvious Michelle does not look in a mirror before she leaves the house and doesn't help
that her personal and private designer doesn't know how to dress a woman built like a drag-queen.

I do not want to see Melania dressed in the upholstery, drapery panels or picnic tablecloths they put Michelle in.

    Good grief!

Wow, that's about the most hypocritical thing I've ever read. I've never heard our new future First Lady say anything regarding other folks lifestyle choices. Furthermore, how is this any different than Christian bakers being persecuted for their decision to not bake a cake for a homosexual marriage?

Liberals are everything they constantly accuse conservatives of being. The hypocrisy is just astounding!
