Fast and Furious Bombshell: ATF Whistleblower Implicates FBI in Death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) Special Agent John Dodson has been a whistleblower in the Fast and Furious scandal and has testified before Congress about what took place. Earlier this year, following the Inspector General’s report on Fast and Furious, Dodson sought to have a smear campaign at Fortune Magazine against him retracted, which followed the Justice Department purposefully leaking documents to smear him. This was all in preparation for his new book, which hit the shelves on December 3, which the ATF attempted to block Dodson from publishing back in October, and finally claimed he could publish it after they censored it. Following the release of the book, Dodson implicated the Federal Bureau of Investigation as part of what led to the December 14, 2010 murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

According to AZCentral, who spoke with Dodson:

A federal agent who exposed the Justice Department’s flawed gun-trafficking investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious says the FBI played a key role in events leading to the 2010 murder near Nogales, Ariz., of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

John Dodson, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, contends that the bandits who killed Terry were working for FBI operatives and were sent to the border to do a drug rip-off using intelligence from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

“I don’t think the (FBI) assets were part of the rip-off crew,” Dodson said. “I think they were directing the rip crew.”

Dodson’s comments to The Arizona Republic amplify assertions he made in his recently released book, “The Unarmed Truth,” about his role as a whistle-blower in the Fast and Furious debacle.

The AZCentral report went on to report:

In his book, Dodson uses cautious language to characterize his account of circumstances surrounding Terry’s death, saying the information is based on firsthand knowledge, personal opinion and press reports. He asserts that the DEA had information about, and may have orchestrated, a large drug shipment through Peck Canyon that December night. He alleges that DEA agents shared that intelligence with FBI counterparts, who advised criminal informants from another cartel that the load would be “theirs for the taking.”

“Stealing such a shipment would increase the clout of the FBI informants in the cartel organization they had penetrated,” Dodson wrote, “and thus lead to better intel for them in the future.”

In his book, Dodson also claims that those who were purchasing the weapons in the Fast and Furious gunwalking program were using “FBI money to ultimately purchase a significant portion of the firearms” due to the fact that two of Manuel Celis-Acosta’s (the man believed to have been the man targeted, who purchased more than 1,500 weapons) associates were FBI informants.

An IG report from 2012 placed the blame for Fast and Furious on senior Justice Department officials. Just prior to the release of that report, the Inspector General let Holder off the hook, even though his name was on many of the documents related to Fast and Furious.

While the Inspector General’s reports do mention miscommunication and mismanagement among agencies, this is the first time the FBI has been implicated in the operation that led to Brian Terry’s death.

Some of Dodson’s narrative is documented in the Justice Department inspector general’s review, which described how Fast and Furious became tangled with collateral cases under the FBI and DEA. The inspector general’s report says the agencies’ failure to appreciate the significance of the inter-connected cases was “troubling.” However, it does not allege that the DEA knew of a drug shipment going through Peck Canyon, or that the FBI passed such information to informants.

The United States Congress held Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress and is currently pursuing a civil case against him to obtain documents in the case to determine just what took place. Holder has sought to have the case dismissed and his Justice Department has said they will not prosecute him.
Earlier this year, Barack Obama linked Fast and Furious, along with the other scandals that have plagued his presidency, as nothing more than “phony scandals.” However, Brian Terry’s family begs to differ, issuing a statement saying:

“These deaths are real. My son’s death was real. I am outraged that President Obama is talking about phony scandals when he knows all too well that my son was a victim of Operation Fast and Furious that was authorized by members of his Justice Department and a U.S. Attorney that he appointed. Operation Fast and Furious was all too real for me and my family, and it directly contributed to my son’s murder,” Josephine Terry, the mother of Brian Terry said in a statement. “Mr. President, come to Michigan and I will show you my son’s grave…then let’s have a conversation about your definition of phony scandals.”

Fast and Furious: FBI Now Linked to Murder of U.S. Border Agent

In the latest explosive twist to the Obama administration’s deadly “Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal, one of the key whistleblowers has now identified the FBI as a crucial player in the infamous 2010 murder of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. According to Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Special Agent John Dodson, the criminals responsible for murdering border agent Terry were actually working for the two FBI operatives at the center of the Obama administration’s deadly plot to arm Mexican drug cartels.
As The New American and other sources reported in early 2011, the ATF was linked to Terry’s murder almost from the start. Indeed, two of the weapons found at the murder scene in Peck Canyon were traced back to Fast and Furious. The slaying of the elite federal border agent, who was killed near the U.S.-Mexico border by drug-cartel operatives armed by the Obama administration via the ATF, was the last straw for some of the officials involved in the scandal.
After learning that the murder weapons were from Fast and Furious — and that disgraced Attorney General Eric Holder’s Justice Department was engaged in an attempted cover-up — brave federal agents knew it was time to go to Congress and the press to blow the whistle. Now, Special Agent Dodson, a key figure who helped expose the administration’s gun-running scandal, has added even more scandalous revelations to the mix: The bandits who shot Terry were likely working for two FBI operatives at the time.

Of course, it has been common knowledge since at least early 2012 that the two Fast and Furious “drug lords” supposedly being “investigated” by the Obama administration were working for the FBI all along. Official documents revealed that the FBI operatives, who were using U.S. taxpayer funds to purchase weapons for cartels, were considered “national security assets,” “off limits,” and “untouchable.” In all, thousands of high-powered American guns were provided to cartels by the administration through the deadly scheme.
The latest revelations suggest the rabbit hole goes even deeper. According to allegations made by Dodson in a recent interviewwith the Arizona Republic, Terry’s killers — employed by the FBI operatives in question — were sent to the border for a “drug rip-off” mission based on “intelligence” from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The alleged goal of helping the FBI’s men steal the large drug shipment was supposedly to increase their clout among the duo’s fellow criminals, the whistleblower argued.
“I don’t think the [FBI] assets were part of the rip-off crew,” Dodson told the newspaper, echoing accusations made in his new book about blowing the whistle on Fast and Furious, dubbed The Unarmed Truth. “I think they were directing the rip crew.” (Emphasis added.) In his book, which the Obama administration unsuccessfully tried to censor by blocking publication, Dodson also argues that the DEA had and shared information on the massive drug shipment going through Peck Canyon the night Terry was killed.
In fact, the whistleblower says, the federal drug agency may have even orchestrated the shipment, an allegation unlikely to surprise analysts who follow the issues. The DEA — investigated by Congress last year for laundering Mexican cartel profits — also allegedly shared the information it had on the shipment with its counterparts at the FBI. Then, Dodson suggests, the FBI proceeded to tip off its own operatives with news that the drugs would be “theirs for the taking.”
“Stealing such a shipment would increase the clout of the FBI informants in the cartel organization they had penetrated,” Dodson argues in his book, “and thus lead to better intel for them in the future.” All of the agencies implicated in the scandal have refused to comment thus far. The Obama administration, meanwhile, has been working furiously to unlawfully conceal documents and evidence from congressional investigators.
Despite the fact that the increasingly discredited establishment media and the administration continue referring to Fast and Furious as a “botched” or “flawed” “investigation,” a growing amount of evidence shows that the operation was nothing of the sort. Instead, it appears to have been a deliberate plot to arm Mexican drug cartels with U.S. weapons for nefarious purposes — primarily, critics argue, to help justify the Obama administration’s assault on the Second Amendment.
Indeed, official documents obtained by Congress actually showed that the Obama administration planned to exploit the resulting Fast and Furious carnage to intensify its lawless efforts to restrict the gun rights of Americans. Numerous lawmakers and analysts have suggested that was the case almost from the start. In addition to U.S. lawmen, hundreds of Mexicans have been killed with Fast and Furious guns so far, with the Obama administration-linked massacres expected to continue for years.
While Dodson appears to genuinely believe that the FBI and other federal agencies were hoping mostly to boost the reputation of their cartel operatives, he does point to more than a few troubling pieces of the puzzle that suggest there are other agendas at work. “Essentially, the United States government is involved in cartel-building,” the ATF whistleblower was quoted as saying in theArizona Republic.
As The New American has reported for years, multiple officials on both sides of the border, as well as drug-cartel kingpins, have all suggested that the U.S. government is actually deeply involved in the drug trade. The fact that there was never any real plan to arrest anyone as part of the Fast and Furious scheme — indeed, the two “drug lords” were already FBI operatives — would appear to bolster those allegations.
Law Enforcement Officers Advocates Council chief Andy Ramirez, a longtime supporter of the Border Patrol who has testified before Congress on multiple occasions, said it is time for a real investigation. “Given the allegations raised by Mr. Dodson, it's pretty clear the suspicions many had in the murder of Agent Terry are well founded,” Ramirez told The New American. “This case long screamed for an independent prosecutor, and with Mr. Dodson's charges, this must finally happen.”
“Our best bet is the appointment of a special prosecutor for the truth and justice for not only Brian Terry, but perhaps also Jaime Zapata, the ICE Agent assassinated in Mexico in 2011 due to what is believed to be his knowledge of Gunrunner, also known as Fast and Furious,” Ramirez continued. He also noted that growing amounts of evidence suggest there is far more to the story than has been admitted by the administration at this point.
In Congress, Republican lawmakers have long been sounding off about Fast and Furious, as well as the administration’s ham-handed efforts to cover up the truth. After top officials were exposed lying to congressional committees while refusing to hand over subpoenaed documents in the gun-running scandal, the outrage culminated in disgraced Attorney General Holder being held in criminal contempt on a bipartisan vote. Articles of Impeachment against the Justice Department boss have been introduced as well. However, nobody at the top has been held accountable yet, and the DOJ is refusing to prosecute its boss.
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform trying to investigate Fast and Furious, vowed this month not to give up in seeking justice for Terry and other victims. “I think the message that the entire family needs to hear because they've seen so many setbacks over the past three years is that we won't give up, that we continue to support them and we continue supporting whistleblowers like John Dodson because we're going to get to the truth no matter how long it takes,” he said.
“We're in court, as you know, and it's a slow process, but we're going to be tenacious there,” Rep. Issa continued, referring to anongoing lawsuit seeking to pry Fast and Furious documents loose from an administration determined to conceal the facts from Congress and the public. “One thing that the Terry family should know is the full truth and the corrections that will prevent this from ever happening again are our highest priority.”
With the establishment media largely continuing to downplay or ignore Fast and Furious, and an out-of-control administration apparently under the impression that laws do not apply to its machinations, it remains unclear whether the full truth will ever be known. The prospect of serious accountability appears remote, for now, too. However, with the Fast and Furious body count growing and new revelations emerging regularly, advocates for the truth, and for the victims, remain hopeful that justice will eventually be served.

The Myth of 90 Percent: Only a Small Fraction of Guns in Mexico Come From U.S.

EXCLUSIVE: You've heard this shocking "fact" before -- on TV and radio, in newspapers, on the Internet and from the highest politicians in the land: 90 percent of the weapons used to commit crimes in Mexicocome from the United States.

-- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said it to reporters on a flight to Mexico City.

-- CBS newsman Bob Schieffer referred to it while interviewing President Obama.

-- California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said at a Senate hearing: "It is unacceptable to have 90 percent of the guns that are picked up in Mexico and used to shoot judges, police officers and mayors ... come from the United States."

-- William Hoover, assistant director for field operations at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, testified in the House of Representatives that "there is more than enough evidence to indicate that over 90 percent of the firearms that have either been recovered in, or interdicted in transport to Mexico, originated from various sources within the United States."

There's just one problem with the 90 percent "statistic" and it's a big one:

It's just not true.

In fact, it's not even close. The fact is, only 17 percent of guns found at Mexican crime scenes have been traced to the U.S.

What's true, an ATF spokeswoman told FOXNews.com, in a clarification of the statistic used by her own agency's assistant director, "is that over 90 percent of the traced firearms originate from the U.S."

But a large percentage of the guns recovered in Mexico do not get sent back to the U.S. for tracing, because it is obvious from their markings that they do not come from the U.S.

"Not every weapon seized in Mexico has a serial number on it that would make it traceable, and the U.S. effort to trace weapons really only extends to weapons that have been in the U.S. market," Matt Allen, special agent of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), told FOX News.

A Look at the Numbers

In 2007-2008, according to ATF Special Agent William Newell, Mexico submitted 11,000 guns to the ATF for tracing. Close to 6,000 were successfully traced -- and of those, 90 percent -- 5,114 to be exact, according to testimony in Congress by William Hoover -- were found to have come from the U.S.

But in those same two years, according to the Mexican government, 29,000 guns were recovered at crime scenes.

In other words, 68 percent of the guns that were recovered were never submitted for tracing. And when you weed out the roughly 6,000 guns that could not be traced from the remaining 32 percent, it means 83 percent of the guns found at crime scenes in Mexico could not be traced to the U.S.

So, if not from the U.S., where do they come from? There are a variety of sources:

-- The Black Market. Mexico is a virtual arms bazaar, with fragmentation grenades from South Korea, AK-47s from China, and shoulder-fired rocket launchers from Spain, Israel and former Soviet bloc manufacturers.

-- Russian crime organizations. Interpol says Russian Mafia groups such as Poldolskaya and Moscow-based Solntsevskaya are actively trafficking drugs and arms in Mexico.

- South America. During the late 1990s, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) established a clandestine arms smuggling and drug trafficking partnership with the Tijuana cartel, according to the Federal Research Division report from the Library of Congress.

-- Asia. According to a 2006 Amnesty International Report, China has provided arms to countries in Asia,Africa and Latin America. Chinese assault weapons and Korean explosives have been recovered in Mexico.
-- The Mexican Army. More than 150,000 soldiers deserted in the last six years, according to Mexican Congressman Robert Badillo. Many took their weapons with them, including the standard issue M-16 assault rifle made in Belgium.

-- Guatemala. U.S. intelligence agencies say traffickers move immigrants, stolen cars, guns and drugs, including most of America's cocaine, along the porous Mexican-Guatemalan border. On March 27, La Hora, a Guatemalan newspaper, reported that police seized 500 grenades and a load of AK-47s on the border. Police say the cache was transported by a Mexican drug cartel operating out of Ixcan, a border town.

'These Don't Come From El Paso'

Ed Head, a firearms instructor in Arizona who spent 24 years with the U.S. Border Patrol, recently displayed an array of weapons considered "assault rifles" that are similar to those recovered in Mexico, but are unavailable for sale in the U.S.

"These kinds of guns -- the auto versions of these guns -- they are not coming from El Paso," he said. "They are coming from other sources. They are brought in from Guatemala. They are brought in from places like China. They are being diverted from the military. But you don't get these guns from the U.S."

Some guns, he said, "are legitimately shipped to the government of Mexico, by Colt, for example, in the United States. They are approved by the U.S. government for use by the Mexican military service. The guns end up in Mexico that way -- the fully auto versions -- they are not smuggled in across the river."

Many of the fully automatic weapons that have been seized in Mexico cannot be found in the U.S., but they are not uncommon in the Third World.

The Mexican government said it has seized 2,239 grenades in the last two years -- but those grenades and the rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) are unavailable in U.S. gun shops. The ones used in an attack on the U.S. Consulate in Monterrey in October and a TV station in January were made in South Korea. Almost 70 similar grenades were seized in February in the bottom of a truck entering Mexico from Guatemala.

"Most of these weapons are being smuggled from Central American countries or by sea, eluding U.S. and Mexican monitors who are focused on the smuggling of semi-automatic and conventional weapons purchased from dealers in the U.S. border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California," according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

Boatloads of Weapons

So why would the Mexican drug cartels, which last year grossed between $17 billion and $38 billion, bother buying single-shot rifles, and force thousands of unknown "straw" buyers in the U.S. through a government background check, when they can buy boatloads of fully automatic M-16s and assault rifles from China, Israel or South Africa?

Alberto Islas, a security consultant who advises the Mexican government, says the drug cartels are using the Guatemalan border to move black market weapons. Some are left over from the Central American wars the United States helped fight; others, like the grenades and launchers, are South Korean, Israeli and Spanish. Some were legally supplied to the Mexican government; others were sold by corrupt military officers or officials.

The exaggeration of United States "responsibility" for the lawlessness in Mexico extends even beyond the "90-percent" falsehood -- and some Second Amendment activists believe it's designed to promote more restrictive gun-control laws in the U.S.

In a remarkable claim, Auturo Sarukhan, the Mexican ambassador to the U.S., said Mexico seizes 2,000 guns a day from the United States -- 730,000 a year. That's a far cry from the official statistic from the Mexican attorney general's office, which says Mexico seized 29,000 weapons in all of 2007 and 2008.

Chris Cox, spokesman for the National Rifle Association, blames the media and anti-gun politicians in the U.S. for misrepresenting where Mexican weapons come from.

"Reporter after politician after news anchor just disregards the truth on this," Cox said. "The numbers are intentionally used to weaken the Second Amendment."

"The predominant source of guns in Mexico is Central and South America. You also have Russian, Chinese and Israeli guns. It's estimated that over 100,000 soldiers deserted the army to work for the drug cartels, and that ignores all the police. How many of them took their weapons with them?"
But Tom Diaz, senior policy analyst at the Violence Policy Center, called the "90 percent" issue a red herring and said that it should not detract from the effort to stop gun trafficking into Mexico.

"Let's do what we can with what we know," he said. "We know that one hell of a lot of firearms come from the United States because our gun market is wide open."

Last Sunday the New York Times ran a piece about a CIA arms ‘cache’ in Texas. When my editor asked me to look into this for a story I quickly agreed. I mean, weapons, CIA, secrets,intrigue and firepower, it’s everything I look for in a story.
For years the CIA has made reference to it’s ‘Midwest Depot’. I know, I know, you’re thinking Ohio to Nebraska, Minnesota to Missouri. But that sneaky CIA, with a grand bit of subterfuge, ‘Midwest’ turns out to mean ‘Texas’.
Retired CIA analyst Allen Thomson, with a collection of circumstantial evidence, has deduced the Midwest Depot is located at Camp Stanley. Located near San Antonia, TX, Camp Stanley IS a US Army weapons depot.
Before writing any story, rule number one is ‘verify all facts and sources.’ And to do so I have another fond saying, ‘Google is my friend’. Oh sure, I found lots of references to the CIA’s ‘Midwest’ depot, but every article, news story or blog, referenced nothing more than the Times story. I shouldn’t be surprised. The CIA is pretty good at keeping secrets.
Claiming he is concerned about the arms the CIA has distributed around the world, Mr. Thomson posted his research on the Federation of American Scientists website. Via e-mail Mr. Thomson stated,

“I have worried about the extent to which the U.S. has spread small arms around over the decades to various parties it supported,” he said. “Such weapons are pretty durable and, after the cause du jour passed, where did they go? To be a little dramatic about it, how many of those AK-47s and RPG-7s we see Islamists waving around today passed through the Midwest Depot on their way to freedom fighters in past decades?”

If Mr. Thomson’s research is correct, Camp Stanley would be a 3^rd known CIA facility in the US, after Langley, CIA Headquarters, and The Farm, a training facility in Virginia.
