Rick Santorum's Solution for the Illegal Population: Use E-Verify

Rick Santorum's Solution for the Undocumented Population: Use E-Verify

    Jun 7, 2015 7:20 AM PDT
He stops short of calling for undocumented immigrants' deportation.

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, who opposes a path to legalization for the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S., stopped short Sunday of calling for their deportation.

In an appearance on Fox News Sunday, the former Pennsylvania senator pressed his case for reducing legal and illegal immigration, arguing that new immigrants harm wages for recent immigrants and American workers.

"I approach this as: what is in the best interests of America, particularly American workers, and particularly those workers who are not doing well in America?" he said, adding that "we have more people living in this country who were not born in this country than anytime in the history of this country."

    “You require E-Verify.”

So what would he do about the estimated 11 million people already in the country illegally?

"You just use E-Verify. You require E-Verify," Santorum said.
    No path to legalization?

    "No," he said.

E-Verify is a program run by the Department of Homeland Security that lets employers check if prospective hires are authorized to work in the United States. Nearly half a million employers used it as of 2013, according to DHS.

The back-and-forth captures the tricky balance for Republicans on the issue. Many conservative voters oppose giving undocumented immigrants legal status, but Republican politicians who agree with that view are loath to call for mass deportation. American Action Forum, a conservative pro-immigration group, estimates that it would take two decades and cost between roughly $400 billion to $600 billion to deport them all.

"I don't think anyone with a sense of reality thinks we're going to ship 11 million or 12 million people back to where they're from," former Texas Governor Rick Perry, now a Republican presidential candidate, said in February.

E-VERIFY is a good thing, but

All of the anchor babies already have Social Security cards.

The DACA people are getting Social Security cards.

The DAPA people will be next to get Social security cards.

E-VERIFY gives all of them access to jobs.

And some employers will always hire some people under the table.

I agree fully, JohnDoe2, we have allowed this political situation to again destroy a great proposal because it did not pass nationally while opportunity was great. Obama found a way around it. It can be useful, but not relied upon. Our mechanism of reliability now is again forceful deportation. Once we have aliens census to 100.000 or less, then we can relax and hope that it works. But, how do you deport those with Social Security cards? We have to get a Congress that will void those numbers! Good luck with that, both parties are sold out to aliens and nuts to Americans! We must do whatever it is necessary to do to make the Constitution relevant to America again, but today is does not seem to be, even to many Americans. What has to be done has to be done, no way around it.

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about current anchor babies.

What happens if the DACA folks never get permanent legalization? Remember, their current legalization is only temporary in nature.

If all goes like we want in the courts, DAPA will not happen and those folks will not get social security cards.

E-Verify isn't a fix all but it is a very good step in the right direction.

The ones here illegally which includes the DACA's and DAPA's as well as so-called "citizens" whose parents aren't in the country legally have to be deported and removed from the country. There's no way around that part of our law or that part of a process that controls immigration. Anyone who claims we can't deport illegal aliens including their offspring is wrong and uninterested in enforcing US immigration law.

E-Verify is a good tool to use. It's not perfect but it's a start. We need to make failure to use E-Verify or the hiring of any illegal alien a Class A Felony with a mandatory 3-5 yr term and $100K fine per illegal alien hired. Also make any illegal entry into the country a Class A felony with permanent bar to any future entry, work permit, or legalization. Give the illegal a choice voluntary deportation or a jail term in a tent city with Sheriff Joe then mandatory deportation. Lastly remove the anchor baby crapola, the 14th Amendment was never intended to cover illegal aliens but the children of slaves who are for the most part dead and gone.

Yea I know pipe dream but hey ya gotta dream big at times.
