    "CHERTOFF-SPEAK" ON BORDER SECURITY

    Chertoff focuses on border safety

Mexico City -- Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Friday that immigration reform would let U.S. law enforcement focus on catching criminals instead of migrants seeking better economic prospects.

IN ENGLISH - Migration into the United States should not be a crime. The U.S. should allow all poor people to use a Port of Entry, instead of climbing over a barbed-wire fence, to find a better life. -
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But he said Americans were unlikely to back any such reform until added security along the Mexican border convinces them they're safe.

IN ENGLISH -We should make it appear that the border is being protected long enough to pacify the people so we can get amnesty.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In his first official visit to Mexico, Chertoff told foreign reporters that Mexico was not a "hotbed" of terrorism but "we are always vigilant for people who might be passing into Mexico who are potentially linked to terrorists."

IN ENGLISH - The idea that Mexican drug cartels would link up with terrorists is silly. These people love America and wouldn't dream of hurting us. Anyway we know their every move and would stop it if it started to happen. The Mexican government loves the idea of U.S. agents screening their airports and seaports.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 6,000 National Guard troops providing logistical support to the Border Patrol since May have deterred people from crossing the 2,000-mile frontier, he said. Fewer people have been seen gathering to cross on the Mexican side.

IN ENGLISH - We don't know how many aliens are crossing the border, but we do keep a running demographic survey of Mexican border towns. Sorry, I can't show it to you.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But security alone won't permanently stop illegal border crossers, and Chertoff warned that flows will increase as smugglers regroup.

IN ENGLISH - No matter what we do, we can't stop illegal aliens from crossing the border. That is why we don't need a fence. I don't care if it works in San Diego.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Comprehensive immigration reform, he said, would allow U.S. law enforcement to "focus more on the people that we don't want in the country under any circumstances, namely the criminals and the dangerous folks."

"Every time a Border Patrol officer is transporting a load of future housekeepers and landscapers he's not looking for drug dealers or drug loads," Chertoff said.

IN ENGLISH - We should grant amnesty to fifteen million illegal aliens. Not one of these people is dangerous, is a criminal, or wants to retake the American Southwest for Mexico. Next, we should legalize anyone else who wants to come here because we will know right off the bat if they are a problem. Poor Mexicans pay more in taxes than middle-class Americans and Los Angeles schools are the finest in the nation and its health-care system is a model of perfection.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mexico has been pushing for years for a U.S. immigration accord. President Bush has proposed a guest-worker program that would allow Mexicans living abroad to seek temporary work visas, but Congress has refused to back it.

U.S. lawmakers instead have supported building more border walls and beefing up security.

But Chertoff noted that border officials say it may not be necessary to build all of the proposed 700 miles of border fences.

Instead, border enforcement authorities would like the flexibility to build walls where needed and use ground sensors and other technology in other places.

IN ENGLISH - President Bush wants to merge with Mexico. That's why he picked me to run the Department of Homeland Security. The Congress was wrong when it passed the Secure Fence Act of 2006. I know what is best and I will not build that 700 mile fence because I don't like it and the President doesn't like it. Do you think he will fire me if I don't build it?

CHERTOFF IS THE ASS-ISTANT DECIDER. He is probably the worst Homeland Security Chief that ever held the position. But there aren't too many people to compare his performance to. Don't forget Bush's sage words, "money trumps peace, sometimes. In other words, commercial interests are very powerful interests throughout the world."
What a LOSER PRESIDENT! I think a high school kid would do a better job than Bush!
