    Osniel Labrada-Guillen

KENNESAW — Cobb police are searching for a man they’re calling a “career criminal” who is wanted for a $1 million jewelry heist he allegedly committed at Diamonds R Forever in Kennesaw more than four years ago.

Osniel Labrada-Guillen, 29, originally from Cuba, is accused of committing a series of burglaries across the country that began with the jewelry burglary in Kennesaw, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, spokesman for Cobb police.

Cobb police put a warrant out for the man’s arrest last week, but Pierce said Labrada-Guillen is still at large.

Labrada-Guillen’s spree of burglaries began at Diamonds R Forever at 4200 Wade Green Road in Kennesaw at about 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 14, 2010, Pierce said.

The man is accused of cutting the phone lines to the business and then entering through a hole he cut into the building’s roof, according to the warrant.

Labrada-Guillen then cut a hole in the sides of two safes inside the business and stole more than $1 million worth of jewelry, according to the warrant.

When police were called to investigate the robbery, Pierce said they found a plastic storage bin “on the ground” near the Wendy’s restaurant on the 3000 block of Cherokee Street in Kennesaw. The bin contained some of the stolen jewelry as well as a paper bag and spoon from Wendy’s, according to the warrant.

“We found a plastic spoon that was inside of a bin of stolen property from that burglary — Diamonds R Forever burglary. We submitted that for DNA testing,” Pierce said.

The results of the test, which police submitted Jan. 15, 2010, returned no match, meaning police records showed the man had never been arrested so his DNA was not in the police database, Pierce said.

Two years later, the same man’s DNA was found at the scene of a burglary at McGhee’s Fine Jewelry in Greenwood, Indiana, Pierce said. When the burglary happened on March 23, 2012, police collected DNA evidence at the scene but couldn’t match it to an identity, Pierce said.

“There was a burglary in Greenwood, Indiana, and based off a ski mask that was found there they were able to get DNA tests, and they submitted that,” Pierce said.

Miami police arrested Labrada-Guillen on March 20, 2014, after a routine traffic stop alerted police that he was a “career criminal,” Pierce said.

When police in Miami booked him into jail, they took a DNA sample from him for their records.

Pierce said Labrada-Guillen was allowed to post bond and was soon released from the Miami jail in March 2014.

However, months later on Sept. 23, 2014, Cobb police did a search to attempt to find DNA matches for samples taken in cases that were now classified as cold cases. Police found Labrada-Guillen was now in the system by matching the DNA found at the crime scene for the burglary of the Kennesaw jewelry store to the sample taken when he was booked into jail by Miami police, Pierce said.

“At that point it tied him in to two different burglaries — ours and another one out of Greenwood, Indiana,” Pierce said.

Then, on Oct. 7 Labrada-Guillen was arrested in Greenacres, Florida, on charges related to the burglary of an AT&T store there, Pierce said.

“What he did (in Greenacres) was he and/or his group stole a bunch of phones, and AT&T was able to put a tracker in one of those phones and they arrested him after they tracked him down with the assistance of AT&T and the Greenacres, Florida, police,” Pierce said.

Labrada-Guillen then posted $30,000 in cash for his bond and was released from the Palm Beach County jail on Nov. 4, according to the jail records.

Pierce said Cobb police are now searching for the man because they can link him back to the crime scene at the 2010 Kennesaw burglary.

“He bonded out and has not been seen or heard from since,” Pierce said.

Anyone with information about Labrada-Guillen is asked not to approach him and to contact their local police department by calling 911.

Decoy phone’s GPS signal leads police to alleged Greenacres burglars

    7:37 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014

Two men almost got away with nearly $35,000 worth of phones and tablets from a Greenacres AT&T store, but they took one too many, according to an arrest report.

One of the boxes contained a decoy phone GPS tracker that led police right to them.

Gennier Perez-Gonzalez, 32, and Osniel Labrada-Guillen, 29, left with dozens of phones and tablets from the store at the Riverbridge Center at Forest Hill Boulevard and Jog Road early Tuesday, the report said.

With the help of the GPS tracker, city police followed the signal to Interstate 95 southbound, pulling the car over on the shoulder Between Lantana Road and Hypoluxo Road.

In the car, police found 88 tablets and phones and various burglary tools that were used to cut open a safe, the report said.

The men caused about $8,000 in damage to the building and $4,000 in damage to the inside of the store.

Perez-Gonzalez, a West Palm Beach resident, was also found with $1,342 in his pocket, of which $1,172 was returned to the store and the rest was placed into evidence.

He faces charges of burglary, two counts of larceny of more than $20,000, one count of criminal mischief and six counts of possession of burglary tools. He remained Thursday in Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $110,000 bail.

Labrada-Guillen, of Miami Gardens, faces charges of burglary, larceny of more than $20,000, two counts of criminal mischief and six counts of possession of burglary tools. He remained in Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $86,000 bail.
