LANDRIEU AD: REPUBLICANS WILL IMPEACH OBAMA IF CASSIDY DEFEATS ME IN SENATE ELECTION

Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) is running a radio ad in which Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) claims if Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) defeats her in Saturday's runoff election, Republicans will impeach President Obama.

Here's the full text of the ad, as first reported at Buzzfeed:

I'm Mary Landrieu, candidate for Senate, and I approve this message. This is Congressman Cedric Richmond.

Have you heard the crazy stuff Bill Cassidy, Bobby Jindal, and the Republicans are always saying about President Obama? They have shown our president so much disrespect. They said he wasn’t a U.S. citizen, they even sued him – and if Cassidy wins, they will impeach him.

Do you remember when the stock market was at 7,000? Now it’s at 17,000, but they say the economy is horrible. Do you remember how bad the unemployment numbers were under the Republicans? Now, unemployment claims are lower than they have been in 14 years. The president needs you to have his back – now, more than ever.

Show Bill Cassidy and Bobby Jindal that we don't want to go backwards, and let them shut down government – where people don't have affordable health care, and our country was in terrible shape.
On Saturday, December 6, get out and re-elect Senator Mary Landrieu, number 5 on the ballot, to fight for you.

Authorized by Friends of Mary Landrieu, and paid for by the Democratic State Central Committee of Louisiana.

The only problem with Richmond's claim about the alleged Republican plan is that it's not true.

As Politifact, hardly a bastion of conservatism, reported on October 29, "[n]o members of the current Congress have introduced legislation to impeach Obama, and Republican Party leaders have shut down the possibility."

"We rate this claim [in] . . . [a] civil rights group mailer [that] said Republicans are 'trying to impeach our president' . . . Mostly False," Politifact concluded.

Both House Speaker John Boehner and incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have clearly stated that impeachment is off the table.

A week after the November election, conservative firebrand Representative Trey Gowdy (R-SC) put the definitive end to speculation that Republicans might attempt to impeach President Obama in the next Congress with the classic one-liner: "Have you met Joe Biden?"

News of the new Landrieu ad broke on the same day the Black Conservatives Fund released a video at an event in Baton Rouge, Louisiana which the group says shows "Democrat Party Boss and Opelousas Mayor Don Cravins, Sr. urg[ing] Democrats to commit voter fraud at a Senator Mary Landrieu event."

Conservative Groups Prepare Major Push in Louisiana Runoff

Ending Spending PAC spends $600,000 on ads for final week

Ending Spending Action Fund 'Dear Mary' ad

Conservative groups are running an aggressive final push in the runoff election for the Louisiana Senate seat, with additional ads hitting the airwaves Monday tying Democratic incumbent Sen. Mary Landrieu to President Barack Obama’s policies.
Despite Rep. Bill Cassidy’s double-digit lead, outside groups are out in full force for the Republican, while Landrieu continues a lonely fight to save the Senate seat she has held for 18 years.

Ending Spending Action Fund, a conservative super PAC, is releasing two campaign ads this week that will run statewide against Landrieu. The super PAC is spending roughly $600,000 on voter contact and television, radio, and online ads for the last week of the race.

The first ad, “Fail Mary,” hits Landrieu for her inability to convince enough Democrats to vote for the Keystone XL pipeline. Ending Spending’s affiliated non-profit group released the radio ad.

“Landrieu spent months bragging about her so-called clout, but took almost six years to get a vote on the Keystone pipeline,” a narrator says. “The sad truth, it wasn’t Landrieu’s power that forced Democrats to vote on Keystone, it was her weakness.”
“Yet even with Landrieu’s career on the line, she still threw a ‘Fail Mary,’” the ad said.

In a second ad, “Dear Mary,” a voter breaks up with Landrieu in a letter for “spending too much time” with Obama, while voters in Louisiana face a poor economy and higher health care costs.

Both ads are critical of the president’s recent executive action on immigration, which will give legal status to more than 5 million illegal aliens.

Ending Spending Action Fund’s push comes alongside millions being spent in support of Cassidy from groups including the Karl-Rove backed American Crossroads, and Freedom Partners Action Fund.

Landrieu has no outside Democratic groups supporting her, except for the Humane Society, which is running ads that your dog could be crushed or end up in a puppy mill without Mary Landrieu.

Freedom Partners Action Fund dedicated $2.1 million to the runoff on anti-Landrieu ads. The group, backed by libertarian philanthropists Charles and David Koch, released a new ad on Monday featuring two Louisiana residents who say, “A vote for Mary Landrieu is a vote for President Obama and his failed liberal policies.”

Conservative War Chest PAC also released a Thanksgiving Day anti-Obama ad in support of Cassidy that has more than 136,000 views on YouTube.

Cassidy and Landrieu will meet for a final debate in Baton Rouge on Monday evening ahead of the runoff election on Dec. 6. A Landrieu victory is widely viewed as a long shot.

Early voting returns are showing positive signs for Cassidy, as Republicans increased their early voting turnout from the general election on Nov. 4, while every other group declined, including a 24 percent drop among African American voters.
