We should all be encouraged with the news I heard last night on Lou Dobbs' program. The administration has sent a letter to Congress asking them to allow the REAL ID Act to be included in the Iraq supplemental bill. I don't know whether ALI-PAC has been actively involved in this particular issue but I know, as an individual, I have. I have written everyone I can think of including the President and Bill Frist and begged them to HONOR their word given to Rep. Sensenbrenner when they were pushing him to sign the 9/11 bill before they adjourned before Christmas and they PROMISED him that they would attach his REAL ID Act to the first "must pass" legislation of the new Congress. But, in the last few weeks, Frist and 10 or 11 other Senators were lobbying others NOT to address it on the Iraq bill. That is just disgusting. The Administration evidently wanted it put off as well.
I believe this is a really good sign that people speaking out CAN make a difference. That is THE ONLY thing I can see that caused this reversal because it sure was beginning to look like that one was going to be dragged out forever and just finally fall by the wayside. So, take heart. The voice of the people is being heard. We must continue the good fight. :D
