Why don't we sue the government??

Why don't or can't people who are hurt or disabled sue the government for not protecting our country. Why don't the families of those killed sue and hold the government accountable for not protecting our Country?

I am sure this has been done but what happens? Is there ever any outcome making the government accountable??

For some reason the last few days I have heard several stories of illegals killing or hurting people by murder, drunk driving, etc. It is even ironic that a democrat law maker was just rear ended by a drunk illegal driver going 60 mph in the last couple of days I believe.

I've looked in to this also. There is some law that says the Fedaral Govt can't be sued....not even class action.

I read somewhere a couple of years back the reason they can't be sued and enjoy an immunity to lawsuits was because the legal system would be so overwhelmed by lawsuits of every nature by citizens not happy with laws or policies made by the feds. I will see if I can locate that article I read and post it here.

I found this article but its not the one I read years ago on the subject but it at least gives you an idea why they can't be sued.

Why do you only see the children of illegal aliens on national t.v. pooring out their sob stories. Why no focus on the children that have been hurt or lost family members due to illegal immigration?

    soverign immunity

Its called sovereign immunity. Its a very old principle in common law inherited from our ancestors in England. The government can only be sued with its permission. In the USA both the Federal and state governments posess sovereign immunity.

Congress and President have wrapped themselves in a warm comfortable blanket of total immunity from all laws that apply to us peasants...

Do as they say, not as they do...

Tell them how you feel about that and other things!!!! Between now and November 2012 make sure you VOTE and tell them how you REALLY feel. Like 17% of U6 unemployed Americans I am just certain they will enjoy an early retirement.

You can sue, if you can find an attorney or if you are particularly adept at filing legal paperwork -- just remember someone who represents them self in court may have a fool for a client . However it is MOST difficult to bring a sitting President or Sitting member of congress to trial. Also, during the past 10 years most laws passed by Congress have had a "no can sue us" clause added. Congress has become notorious for protecting itself, presidents and government from having to follow any laws it passes.

So if you can find a lawyer who will take your case -- go for it! Most will want you to pay by the hour though

LOL had to add this. Of course in the United States of America we are all equal, and are granted equal protection under law. HOWEVER, if you are rich you are ALLOT MORE EQUAL!

I'm surprised you guys gave up so quickly. I work for a DOD branch and am able to look at a lot of things, including lawsuits. There is precedence whereby a lawsuit can be made against the federal government (not unlike what the states are doing now with healthcare) or agencies who represent the Fed. There is a proceedure for it, mostly involves asking permission (in Federal Court) to level the suit against a given agency or group, because (fill in blank here, but has to be followed with a good reason, like they casued deaths, harm, etc). Chances of getting beyond this step is slim, but a good attorney can sometimes get the job done and tie up the Fed for years! I'm no expert, but can't some of the illegals who come here with criminal pasts and the Fed lets them go...isn't that sufficient to start this? Even if it fails, why isn't this in the "court of public opinion"?
