Former Commissioner Charged with Voter Fraud

WESLACO -A former Weslaco city commissioner is now charged with voter fraud. Hidalgo County court documents show that Lupe Rivera was arraigned on Wednesday in connection with the November 2013 election.

Lupe Rivera faced off against Letty Lopez. Rivera won by just 16 votes. Lopez then contested the results.

A judge threw out some of the 2013 votes and cited voter fraud.

A special election was ordered and took place during the November 2015 general election.

Lopez won the Weslaco city commissioner place 5 seat.

Rivera’s next hearing is scheduled for February.
