(CBS TAMPA) – Former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young stated that Trayvon Martin is one of several martyrs under the cause of civil rights violence and injustice.

In a lead-up to President Barack Obama’s address marking the 50th anniversary of the civil rights movement March on Washington, the former U.N. ambassador under President Jimmy Carter interrupted MSNBC guest host Joy Ann-Reid’s question on troubles in the African-American community to express his thoughts on the Trayvon Martin case.

“No, Trayvon is a martyr. We’ve had a string of martyrs from the time of Emmett Till. Every generation has its string of martyrs and they’re going to continue. And we celebrate them and we lift them up to know that they’re not lost,” said Young.

“But I can never forget that three weeks after this magnificent speech four little girls were bombed in their Sunday school class and two kids, who nobody ever knew about, were slaughtered riding bicycles for nothing.”

In addition to his ambassadorship, Young has served as the mayor of Atlanta, a congressman in Georgia’s 5th district and as a member of the Southern Christian Leadership Council (SCLC) during the 1960s Civil Rights Movement.

“The world will never be perfect, but we can never accept this kind of suffering, injustice,” continued Young. “And, for me, Zimmerman is just as much a tragedy as Trayvon. His life is ruined over a love of guns and a false sense of what manhood is.”

“A wannabe cop,” adds a show guest off-camera.

“The president’s business is to talk to us and say something that is going to have an impact on Egypt at the same time,” Young said, “because our problems of poverty are reflected in the 50 million people in the streets of Egypt because the economy doesn’t include them.”

Young continued: “The world is falling apart and nobody can bring it back together and nobody can define a vision of victory but a president of the United States.”

  No Zimmerman is a victim, Travyon was on drugs and attacked him thinking he may be a gay rapist which is a thought his GF put in his head.
  The high on lean and cannabis Trayvon may have been legally insane at the time and thought he was being validly paranoid.
  He doubled back to Zimmerman's truck and attacked Zimmerman leading to a scuffle and attempted escape to safety by Zimmerman.

  Remember, MSNBC is the same one that falsely edited the Zimmerman phone call to make him sound like a racist, and also stacked their discussion panels completely with those saying Zimmerman is a racist and guilty. They refused to mention Zimmerman's extensive pro black history, and refused to mention Trayvon's extensive thug history. MSNBC tried hard to fry Zimmerman and they put Zimmerman and his family at even greater risk. MSNBC plays the race card constantly, everyday.

And no decent person would not see those as senseless, horrible crimes. However, to equate their deaths with Trayvon Martin being killed in self defense after he attacked someone is to insult the memory of all the truly innocent children who have been victims. To ask decent people to make that leap is to insult their intelligence and require them to abandon their very sense of decency.

...Zimmerman shot that rabid dog in self defense... trayvon thought he was man enough to attack a gay man in the dark and have his way with him... dumb unsupervised teen (Rachel and Trayvon should have been charged with a hate crime but the racist Attorney General and his Boss lack the intestinal fortitude to the right thing... truth be told they are afraid of blacks (blacker than them).

Or Condi Rice, or Justice Thomas, and the list goes on. So young blacks are left with the race hustlers who tell them, not to get an education, get a job, or to live a good life, but to be victims, to blame somebody else and demand stuff. Fla. Civil Rights Group Welcomes U.N. Official’s Call for Reparations in Trayvon Martin Case

(CNSNews.com) – A Florida advocacy group spearheading protests over the racially-charged Trayvon Martin shooting has welcomed the intervention of the United Nations’ human rights chief, who has called for the shooter to be put on trial and “reparations for the victims concerned.”

“We believe that the United Nations involvement can help prevent another Trayvon Martin situation in other counties across the world,” J. Willie David, president of the Florida Civil Rights Association, said in a statement provided to CNSNews.com on Monday.

“The shooting death of Trayvon Martin and Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law have created a worldwide movement that calls into question how justice is delivered to victims of color,” he said.

“The Florida Civil Rights Association is calling on the police and prosecutors to end their questionable practices of operating in secrecy when it comes to African Americans.”

U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay commented on the Martin shooting during a visit to Barbados on Thursday.

The unarmed 17-year-old was shot dead in Sanford, Florida, on February 26 by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, who says he acted in self-defense after being attacked by the black teenager. Florida’s “stand-your-ground” law provides immunity from prosecution for “justifiable use of force” in cases where a person reasonably believes there to be a threat of imminent death or serious bodily harm.

The incident triggered a massive outcry, and prompted investigations by the Sanford Police Department, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement – at the behest of Gov. Rick Scott – as well as the Department of Justice. A special prosecutor appointed by Scott on March 22, Angela Corey, said on Monday her investigation was continuing, although she ruled out using a grand jury.

Although local, state and federal inquiries have been underway for weeks, Pillay called for “an immediate investigation” into the shooting.

“Justice must be done for the victim,” she told a media briefing in Hastings, on the southern end of the Caribbean island. “It’s not just this individual case, it calls into question the delivery of justice in all situations like this.”

“In this particular case it was the family itself, their distress that became known to the general public – once again people pressure that has drawn attention to this case. It shouldn’t be so,” Pillay continued. “The law should operate equally in respect of all violations. So, like every other situation such as this, we will be urging an investigation, and prosecution and trial – and of course reparation for the victims concerned.”

Pillay, a South African jurist, was appointed U.N. rights chief in 2008 and is based in Geneva, at the home of the U.N. Human Rights Council. She is a former judge at the International Criminal Court and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
