A woman in Germany is being evicted from her home of 16 years to make way for asylum-seekers, amid growing concerns over how Germany will find accommodation for the hundreds of thousands of refugees flooding into the country.

Bettina Halbey, a 51-year-old nurse, has lived alone in her flat in the small western German town of Nieheim since her children grew up.

On September 1, she received a letter from her landlord, the local municipality, telling her the building was being turned into a refugee shelter and she had until next May to leave.

“I was completely taken aback,” Ms Halbey told Welt newspaper. “I find it impossible to describe how the city has treated me.”

When Ms Halbey vented her frustration on Facebook, asking why she was being evicted when properties were standing empty in the town, her comment was shared 200,000 times.

In Germany, where 52 per cent of people rent their homes, it is unheard of to be asked to leave under such circumstances.
Tenants are strongly protected by law, and can normally only be evicted if they have broken the terms of their rental agreement.

“I’ve muddled through sorrow and distress, and then I get this notice,” said Ms Halbey, who brought up her two children as a single mother in the flat. “It was like a kick in the teeth.”

Ms Halbey insisted she was not against Germany taking refugees in. When asylum-seekers moved into the flat above hers last May, they got on well, she said.

“We take care of each other. Helping people, this is my commandment,” she said.

Although the building belongs to the local municipality, it is not social housing and Ms Halbey pays the full market rent.
But Rainer Vidal, the mayor of Nieheim, said the building was needed to house refugees because the town’s existing three shelters were full. “A new residential unit for 30 refugees in Nieheim would cost €30,000 (£22,000). This solution will cost me nothing,” he told Welt.

Doubts have been raised over whether the municipality’s move is legal. It has invoked a law under which a private landlord can evict a tenant if he wants to move into the property himself.

“Normally, only a natural person can terminate for personal use A municipality cannot move into a flat as a legal entity, so the process is legally highly questionable,” Ulrich Ropertz, spokesman of the German Tenants' Federation, said.

The controversy has come amid growing concern in Germany over how to house refugees, with shelters already full across the country and tens of thousands continuing to arrive.

Angela Merkel’s government agreed on Thursday to release a further €2 billion (£1.5 billion) to help pay the costs of sheltering refugees, €500 million (£370 million) of which is earmarked for building new accommodation.

But critics say it is not enough, with Germany expecting to host as many as one million asylum-seekers this year.
The state government of Hamburg is trying to push through legislation that would enable it to seize empty commercial properties and turn them into refugee shelters.

Local politicians in Berlin have called for empty apartments to be requisitioned from private landlords.

There have even been suggestions of a return to the solution of the postwar years, when millions of refugees fleeing to West Germany from former Nazi-held lands were billeted with ordinary families.

Despite the concerns over housing, public support for Mrs Merkel’s policy of admitting so many refugees remains high, according to a new opinion poll.

Fewer than a quarter of Germans think the country is accepting too many refugees, while 49 per cent think it’s taking the right number, and 21 per cent think it should take even more, the poll for ZDF television found.

But an overwhelming 78 per cent of those polled supported the government’s move to suspend the Schengen agreement and temporarily reimpose border controls during the crisis.

Genuine refugees are still allowed to enter Germany, but there are concerns many are lying about their nationality to get around the checks.

The interior ministry estimates as many as 30 per cent of those claiming to be from Syria are in fact from other countries, a spokesman said on Friday.

Germany has said it will accept Syrian refugees even if they should apply for asylum in a different member state under EU rules.

World history would suggest that wars drastically reduce population. I have a friend who advocates that. He seems to want America kept out of such war(s). We have a breeding problem here, too, I think..

We have a breeding problem here and throughout the world due largely to religious organizations. We got past that here in the US back in the 70's, but look around, Pro-Life, forced breeding, anti-birth control, anti-abortion, forcing girls and women into childbirth against their will, personhood amendments, defunding Planned Parenthood, restricting the time for an abortion, requiring parental notification for pregnant girls, closing clinics, killing abortion doctors, I mean .... it's just unbelievable what is going on to purposefully bloat the ours and the world's population beyond any possible sustainable level. It's like people are engaged in some Rosemary Baby's Cult and they organized like the crazy immigration promoters to weave our Congress into this religious milieu against all notions of liberty, common sense, intelligence and logic, not to mention the total unwillingness and inability to put their money where their mouths are and pay for the consequences of it.

Yes, but in our country, whites still control policy, and our policies on this crucial survival and sustainable issue is going the wrong way because too many are wrongly weaving their religion into our politics. Fix that problem and enforce separation of church and state, and Congress and unravel this bad cloth that's been woven for all the wrong reasons, and soon it can fix itself, then help fix the country. The story brings up the question, "When can government confiscate a private home and for what reasons?" I thinking that 75% or more of American home mortgages are Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac insured. Any lawyers here? Are Americans susceptible to giving up their home to an Islamic extremist or refugee if not in default?

Se do nave many vacant homes due to the recession. Are these stories being manufactured abroad to arouse more sympathy in America and bring pressure upon us. Seems funny to me the first from Germany is a very sympathetic story for the middle aged woman involved, too. Considering todays press, I think it possible to be manufactured. However, there is the Switzerland story, too.

I have often been very forceful in criticizing the Christian churches when they have been pushing for amnesty. But when I talk about cultural Marxism and its cynical drive to destroy the West, you try to divert the debate to gay marriage and abortion and Christian opposition to them as if they were the ultimate cause for the illegal alien invasion. Apparently you keep pushing the idea that the key to electoral victory lies in a candidate being for abortion or gay marriage. Sorry dear Judy but those are fringe issues at best. Those issues are not a priority for the great majority of voters. They will not influence the vote of the great majority of people, those who are not already hardcore leftist.. The problem is not Christianity with all of its errors, the problem is that through our universities and colleges Marxist thinking now dominates all of our major cultural institutions, movies, music, magazines, newspapers, television colleges and now the major religious organizations, the labor unions, the tech industries and big corporations. Wall Street is dominated by rich, businessmen Marxists. Other than faux Christians none of these has anything to do with religion, or gays or abortion. The problem is the near monopoly of our culture by Marxists. The churches are just one part of the great picture. If every Christian in the US were denied the vote, there would be no significant change in the suicide of the West.

The government has been grants to deserving people through Grantees, one of which is LaRaza and many are the renamed ACORN> I think they get $50,000.00 to buy a home with and then additional loans to "fix up" the place that don't have to be paid back if they live in the house for 7 years. All compliments of US taxpayers. No, you don't have to be a citizen to be in the program. All the deals that going on are mind boggling. The agenda seems to truly be to replace the old "white" population with more younger workers. JMO

Nation's top lenders agree to give NSP
grantees first crack at buying foreclosed homes

WASHINGTON - U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan today announced an unprecedented agreement with the nation's top mortgage lenders to offer selected state and local governments, and nonprofit organizations a "first look" or right of first refusal to purchase foreclosed homes before making these properties available to private investors.

The National First Look Program is a first-ever public-private partnership agreement between HUD and the National Community Stabilization Trust (Stabilization Trust). In collaboration with national servicers, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac, the First Look program is intended to give communities participating in HUD's Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) a brief exclusive opportunity to purchase bank-owned properties in certain neighborhoods so these homes can either be rehabilitated, rented, resold or demolished.

"This groundbreaking agreement will help rebuild neighborhoods that have been struggling with blight and declining home values due to foreclosures," said HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan. "Local communities will now get an exclusive option to buy foreclosed properties in targeted neighborhoods so they can turn the homes into affordable housing or, in some cases, tear them down. This agreement helps us level the playing field to give communities a better chance to stabilize these neighborhoods."

"The Stabilization Trust is delighted to be working with HUD Secretary Donovan on the National First Look Program," said Craig Nickerson, President of the NCST. "By serving as the operations ‘engine' behind the First Look Program, the Stabilization Trust can facilitate the transfer of more foreclosed property for participating financial institutions to local community buyers, thereby accelerating the road to neighborhood recovery."

HUD's NSP grantees, which include state and local governments and non-profit organizations, often find themselves competing with private investors for real estate-owned (REO) properties, which can hinder their efforts to stabilize neighborhoods with high foreclosure activity. With today's announcement, HUD and the Stabilization Trust, working with national servicers, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac, will standardize the acquisition process for NSP grantees, giving them an exclusive option to purchase foreclosed upon homes in certain targeted neighborhoods.

The Stabilization Trust pioneered the 'First Look' model to create a transparent and streamlined process to facilitate the transfer of foreclosed and abandoned properties from key financial institutions to local government housing providers. First piloted in 2008, the model has gained recognition as a critical tool for positively tipping the scale in neighborhoods hard hit by foreclosures. NSP grantees will also be aided by REOMatch™, a web-based mapping and acquisition management tool developed by the Stabilization Trust. REOMatch will assist NSP grantees easily identify REO properties and make more strategic decisions about which properties to acquire, based on real-time data on an interactive mapping platform.

The nation's leading financial institutions are participating in the National First Look Program, representing approximately 75 percent of the REO marketplace. Participating institutions include: Bank of America, Chase, Citi, Deutsche Bank, GMAC, Nationstar Mortgage, Ocwen Financial Corporation, Saxon Mortgage Services, U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Housing Administration (FHA).

The National First Look Program will allow NSP grantees the exclusive opportunity to purchase available REO properties located within the defined boundaries of NSP target areas. NSP grantees will be immediately notified when a property becomes available and will have 24-48 hours to express interest in pursuing a specific property. Furthermore, these institutions will provide NSP purchasers with the opportunity to purchase REO properties at a discount their appraised value, reflecting the cost savings of a quick sale. NSP grantees may acquire these properties with the assistance of NSP funds for any eligible use.

After expressing interest in a property, the First Look Period will last approximately five to 12 business days during which the NSP Grantee will conduct inspections and establish costs to repair in anticipation of the financial institution's price offer. In the event that no NSP grantee exercises its preference to purchase an REO property during the First Look period, the financial institution will follow its normal process to sell the home on the open market.

Currently, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) offers a complementary pilot program in which NSP grantees receive an exclusive option to purchase so-called ‘HUD Homes' at a discount prior to those homes being made available to the investor community. The FHA pilot, alongside today's agreement expands the opportunity for NSP grantees to gain access to REO properties through a national first-look standard option.

HUD's Neighborhood Stabilization Program was created to address the housing crisis, create jobs, and grow local economies by providing communities with the resources to purchase and rehabilitate vacant homes. NSP grants are helping state and local governments, as well as non-profit developers, acquire land and property; demolish or rehabilitate abandoned properties; and/or offer downpayment and closing cost assistance to low- to middle-income homebuyers. Grantees can also stabilize neighborhoods by creating "land banks" to assemble, temporarily manage, and dispose of foreclosed homes. To date, HUD has allocated nearly $6 billion in funding to state and local governments and non-profit housing developments. In the coming weeks, HUD will allocate an additional $1 billion in NSP funding, which was provided through the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

With so many people being paid to produce "NEWS" about whatever someone wants produced it is very possible. The media, online sites, blogs, think tanks, etc., it's all a blurry mess now. You can find someone who will produce any data you want, for the right price.

The issue kevinsdad and I were discussing was overpopulation, which is not a fringe issue, it's the number one threat to the survival of the free world. Marxists get their foothold in countries who have more people than jobs, more kids than money to support them, that'd where socialism breeds, to take from those who have it and give it to those who don't.

There's a reason we have laws that prohibit Medicaid funding to help a young girl or poor woman to have an abortion which costs about $600 or less, but provides unlimited 100% Medicaid funding for childbirth including pre-natal and post-natal care which costs $10,000 to $15,000 a procedure assuming there are no complications and up to hundreds of thousands of dollars if there are complications.

Why would such stupidity exist in our laws? Because Pro-Life candidates care more about the welfare of a fetus than the pregnant girl or woman. I have never pushed for a candidate who is "for abortion", I support candidates who are Pro-Choice and believe the decision to have an abortion is with the girl or woman, not someone else and most certainly not the government at any level.

It doesn't matter that much to me about the use of federal funds for abortions, because I don't think federal funds should be used to fund any pregnancy related medical care. But to freely fund the latter and not the former makes no sense. It is a War on Girls and Women in my view to make things difficult for those who are poor or too young to have their own money, and it's just mean, very mean to force a pregnant girl or woman into childbirth against her will. I really don't want to elect mean people into government who have such little regard for girls and women in such stressful life-altering and life-threatening situations. To me it's barbaric.

To me, it's the same with gays, to discriminate against them, is mean, too, because it forces them into loneliness or false life-styles with a heterosexual when the idea of having sex with that person makes them sick.

Take that Kim Davis down there in Kentucky, making a big deal over doing her job to provide marriage licenses. That woman has been married 4 times. What if someone decided that she shouldn't have a second marriage license because that's adultery under someone's religious beliefs? How would she feel about that, I wonder?

Or how would all those religionists fighting against abortion and gay rights feel if someone in the local Social Services Office responsible for Medicaid decided because of their religious beliefs they would refuse to sign up single pregnant girls or women for Medicaid, because they are fornicators, sinners, having sex out of wedlock?

Wouldn't that send some shockwaves through our "Christian" community? Lord have mercy, there would riots on the streets coast to coast and all points in between, but it would sure cut the hell out of Medicaid spending.

The suicide of the west is stupidity, not being able to think clearly with common sense, intelligence and loyalty to their own people and of course low math skills which is why they can't balance a check book, demand enough wage to cover their cost of living, run a government that spends within its means, count illegal aliens or the cost of them being here, or figure out why admitting over 1.3 million legal immigrants a year is bankrupting our country.

See, Trump may not be Mr. Nice Guy when he's counter-punching, but that man can count and he's not stupid. He's probably the smartest most responsible person we've had to vote for in a very, very, long time, possibly the smartest one since Teddy Roosevelt. I don't agree with his newly found "Pro-Life" position, but we don't know how far if any distance he plans to go with that, hopefully none, since I believe he's too smart to actually use it to change policy against girls and women. If he does, then we'll just have to push him back on that stuff.

In the meantime, we'll get secure borders, a beautiful wall, removal of illegal aliens in less than 2 years, stopped/reduced legal immigration, E-Verify, defunding of sanctuary cities, no more tax credits, and end to birthright citizenship to children of illegal aliens, no more catch and release, no more welfare benefits to immigrants, no more visas or green cards that cost Americans their jobs, wages or educations, and an end to this free trade treason nonsense. He'll make friends with Russia, put Japan, China, Mexico and all the rest that are eating our lunch in their proper place, he'll fix the roads, bridges and airports at a fraction of the cost these morons are spending now, and hopefully he'll help US pass the FairTax which will bring our industries and investment capital back home.

To JohnDoe2: I don’t understand how the fabrication of a story like the plight of a middle-aged German woman would “bring pressure” on the US to bring in more Muslim immigrants. If anything it would make Americans concerned about the consequences of a government committed to policies of unlimited mass alien migration. Even though the younger Germans and even the parents of younger Germans have never been Nazis (having been born after the defeat of Nazism in 1945I) after 70 years of inculcated guilt there is a psychotic German guilt about Hitler. I have been to Europe many times and the people’s brains there have been so screwed up by Marxism that it is to be expected that things like this would be happening. I would be amazed if this story was not true.

I have been to Europe many times and the people’s brains there have been so screwed up by Marxism that it is to be expected that things like this would be happening. I would be amazed if this story was not true.

This has actually happened already in the United States. When Americans lose their jobs to illegal aliens, refugees, asylum-seekers, and legal immigrants, they those their homes because they either can't pay the rent, make the mortgage payment or pay the property taxes if they own their homes. This crazy immigration disaster couples with the loss of jobs due to free trade treason has displaced so many Americans from their employment, livelihoods, benefits, retirements, futures, and of course homes.

Millions of Americans have had to bunk up with relatives, move back home with their parents, parents move in with grandparents, or with uncles, aunts, cousins, siblings, or friends and for those who have no place to bunk up, they're homeless, living in their cars, in little tents under an overpass or in a tent city in some park or field or forest or a homeless shelter.

What's happening in our country is unbelievable and what has happened to our dear fellow citizens is the greatest tragedy of my lifetime.

I have often been very forceful in criticizing the Christian churches when they have been pushing for amnesty. But when I talk about cultural Marxism and its cynical drive to destroy the West, you try to divert the debate to gay marriage and abortion and Christian opposition to them as if they were the ultimate cause for the illegal alien invasion. Apparently you keep pushing the idea that the key to electoral victory lies in a candidate being for abortion or gay marriage. Sorry dear Judy but those are fringe issues at best. Those issues are not a priority for the great majority of voters. They will not influence the vote of the great majority of people, those who are not already hardcore leftist.. The problem is not Christianity with all of its errors, the problem is that through our universities and colleges Marxist thinking now dominates all of our major cultural institutions, movies, music, magazines, newspapers, television colleges and now the major religious organizations, the labor unions, the tech industries and big corporations. Wall Street is dominated by rich, businessmen Marxists. Other than faux Christians none of these has anything to do with religion, or gays or abortion. The problem is the near monopoly of our culture by Marxists. The churches are just one part of the great picture. Ok, let this old woman throw in her two cents about over population. I remember very clearly in the late 50's and early 60's all the children dying in places like India, Africa and even Mexico. We were shown pictures of all these kids. We, were told that in all these third world countries people were not educated. They knew nothing of birth control. Instead of Climate Control being the big issue it was all about over population. If they were not educated, if they did not know about birth control the world would be destroyed. We were told to cut back on having children. Two was the number of kids for the educated. It was our duty to join groups and educate these people about birth control.

So many of my generation bought into this theory and limited ourselves on how many children we had. What we were not told was that if we went by their theory of controlling our population growth, that we would still be impacted by the over population from other countries. We did not know we would someday be told that we were not having enough babies and we needed immigrants.

Exactly! That's exactly what happened. And while we were right to limit to the extent people were comfortable with doing so to smaller families, because it raised our standard of living, reduced poverty and brought forth some of the best times in our history.

Then, it happened. Bad people got involved in our government who wanted to steal what we had by sneaking in immigrants with green cards and visas, unknown by most Americans, and of course illegal aliens sneaking in over the borders and through the ports with no green cards or visas. There so many that people began to notice and talk about it a little bit, and the next thing we know Reagan issued his Giant Amnesty, then Clinton used that law to Amnesty More and More, and then Bush who just said "ya'll come, I'll git you a guest worker permit"/

So by the time Americans realized what was really happening to the level that it was, it was the 6th year of the Bush Administration and there were so many of them here that Tom Ridge, head of DHS actually said "we can't do anything about it, because we don't know who they are, where they or what they're doing".

And that was as big a lie as there are WMD's in Iraq, because they did know who they were, where they were and what they were doing. They were given driver's licenses, they were at Walmart, they were on street corners waiting for day labor companies to pick them up, they were in the hospital emergency rooms, they were in our schools, they were on the streets and highways, they were at the checking cashing stores and Western Union, they were at the Sprint cell phone store, they were on every construction site, they were in New Orleans after Katrina, they were in factories, they were everywhere, except "in the shadows".

They were out there in broad daylight taking over the place bold as hell so they knew they had protection during the Bush administration, which has continued full steam under the Obama Administration.

Why would any President, Reagan, Clinton, Bush, or Obama want to do this terrible thing to our country and citizens? The terrible harm they have caused our citizens is beyond the pale. And it's not over. It's still on-going.

So, Senators like McCain, Graham and Rubio, well, they deserve every name Trump can come up with to throw at them.

The problem is not that Jose has six children. The problem is that Jose has six kids when he lives in a third world crap hole country where he can only afford to have one child. It is not the number of people, it is a society that is full of ignorance, from its rulers to the peasants who have no idea why they are starving. And God have mercy on us because these people are flooding into our country and the Democrats and Marxist will see to it that very soon they will be voting.

As the great Milton Friedman (economic advisor Ronald Reagan) has written, economic prosperity is firmly linked to personal freedom. Governments do not make wealth, they can only create the conditions that allow people the freedom to create wealth for themselves and thus one by one the entire nation collectively becomes prosperous.

Chinais no exception. Although it is adictatorship, in economic activities it allows the independent economic activities necessary for wealth creation. Although it gets confusing because of many variations of the types of government interference in economic activities, the core principles remain true. In the US today we have a fascistic economy where technically there is private ownership of companies but the government controls almost all important business activities. Huge corporations have become intertwined with government, one feeding off of the other.

And we can see the results of restricted economic freedom because of this government, corporation monolith; the middle class is being drive out of existence.

It is this unholy alliance, this bastardization of free enterprise, this “crony capitalism,” that is driving the dissolution of our nation with massive illegal and legal immigration.

That's mostly true! But it does matter how many children Jose has. It matters if he can't support them and requires others to support them for him. Supply and demand works in all things, not just goods and services. Supply and demand works with wages and homes and savings and yes, population. It's a law of the universe, it applies to humans the same as it applies to the animal kingdom. Overpopulation of any species is a death sentence to many and a threat of extinction for the entire species.

When people live and reproduce within their means, everyone both survives and prospers. When people live and reproduce beyond their means, people die and everyone suffers.
