Good news from Nebraska- local police can check legal status

    Bruning Endorses Local Immigration Program

Attorney General Jon Bruning visits the the Tri-Cities. He talked to Nebraska Sheriffs and Police Officers about a new pro-active immigration program. It's a program designed for local law enforcement agencies to take a more active role in immigration. To take violent, illegal immigrants off the streets and out of our community.

"We don't want violent illegal immigrants back in the community," said Jon Bruning.

Bruning talked with Nebraska sheriffs and police officers about a new immigration program he says is vital for our communities.

"We will be able to check on the spot if someone is illegal and not have wait for the I.C.E. to begin deportation," said Bruning.

Bruning says Nebraska has had a big problem with illegal immigrants who are here causing problems. Currently, police officers had to let them walk.

"Authorities are frustrated because it becomes a catch and release situation," said Bruning.

Under the new program local law enforcement agencies can look through an immigration database and keep the person in jail, if they are illegal.

"This will make things easier on the officers and safer for the community," said Bob Kinsey, with the Mid State Organized Crime Center.

Attorney General Jon Bruning says this program doesn't give local agencies power to perform
raids or random street operations. He hopes to have a class for local law enforcement agencies to learn more about the program by the first of the year, and hopes to get everybody trained shortly after.

He needs to do better and say that we don't want any illegal aliens in our communities.
