Nervous Callers Worry About Military-At-Border Optics

Nervous Callers Worry About Military-At-Border Optics

    October 22, 2018

RUSH: Here is Mike in Youngstown, Ohio. Getting a call in here the first hour. Welcome, sir. How are you?

CALLER: Good. Good, Rush. And I hope you and your family’s all doing good. Listen. I think this has all the makings of a bad setup for Trump because of the optics. I don’t care if he militarizes the border, if they bum-rush the border like they did on the southern side of Mexico where they tried to stop ’em; what’s our military supposed to do? Break out batons or water hoses or tear gas? That’s just gonna look so bad that Trump is gonna take the brunt of it. What he needs to do is call the House and the Senate back into emergency session and do a national address. And put everybody’s butt on the line. Not just try a tad deal with this himself.

RUSH: So bring ’em back in for a special session to do what? Pass legislation specifically saying that this mob of 7,000 can’t come in?

CALLER: Something of that sort. I mean —

RUSH: You think Trump needs to share the burden of providing the obstacle that if Trump sends the military down and they start cracking heads and it looks bad for Trump?

    CALLER: Exactly.

RUSH: So you think that’s what the actual intention here is, the people who have planned the thing?

CALLER: Exactly. And that’s where you can’t try to deal with this on his own. He needs to put everybody else’s butt on the line, get ’em on tape, on film, or whatever, what should we do. What would you like to do if they come across —

RUSH: I actually like that in a way, I like making Schumer and Pelosi stand up for letting these people in. Anyway, it’s a good point. It’s a… It’s a… I don’t wanna say dangerous situation, but it is in whole lot of different ways.

    BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: So still lots to get to as the program unfolds before your very eyes and ears. Back to the caravan story ’cause we’re not quite through with this. The thing that argues, again, for this being a Democrat Party operation or an operation intended to benefit the Democrat Party…

AP Changes Headline After Liberals Complain About Describing Illegal Caravan as ‘Army Of Migrants.‘” That is the original AP story on this that enraged a bunch of leftists. “The Associated Press on Sunday changed a headline after a backlash from liberals furious at the AP for describing a caravan of illegal immigrants heading towards the United States as an ‘army of migrants.’ ‘A ragged, growing army of migrants resumes march toward U.S.,’ read the original headline on the AP story.”

A ragged, growing army of migrants. “The AP later changed the headline to replace the word ‘army’ with ‘caravan.'” Well, it’s not a caravan, either. It’s a mob. It is an invading army. By the way, not all of them are walking. I mean, you’ve seen the vehicles. They’re on flatbed trucks; they’re in pickups. They’re in any number of vehicles. Whoever is paying for this is paying a pretty penny. I’ve seen estimates of $7,000 a person for this. (sigh) Seven-thousand dollars a person?

As I say, I’ve seen estimates. I’ve seen estimates that this is costing upwards of $20 million. I don’t know about that, but I know it’s not cheap. You have to feed 7,000 people. You have to provide fuel for those vehicles that are being used to transport them. Now, the cartels have that kind of money. So do Democrat donors have that kind of money. Some of them are walking — a lot of them are walking — and now there’s a second caravan that has sprung up in Honduras.

A Los Angeles Times headline: “Stretching for Miles, 7,000 Strong Migrant Caravan Treks Through Stifling Heat in Southern Mexico.” You know, I often break out a map. I know my geography. I know where things are. You know what’s fascinating? Apple TV, the Apple TV 4K in the latest software… You know they have these aerial screen savers, and they have added (as of the most recent software update) 4K video of the world from the International Space Station as it orbits, and it’s fun when they pop up, and you can make them pop up.

You don’t have to wait for the screen server to automatically load. It’s fun to try to find out where the International Space Station is, what it is flying over, because it doesn’t just go east to west. For example, I saw one recently flying over California north to south. And you were flying straight down the coast of California into the Baja Peninsula and then into Mexico. It’s fun just to figure out… In the night views, you can see Ireland and the U.K. You can see North Korea is just dark as it can be.

But because it’s not a standard map view, it’s fun to figure out what’s what — and the space station is about 200 miles high. So these are fascinating 4K views. I often crack out a map. We’re talking here about Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama. Now, according to the map that I cracked, Costa Rica and Panama are much closer to Honduras than the U.S. is. Costa Rica is only 400 miles from Honduras. Panama is 590 miles away. The United States is 2,500 miles from Honduras.

Some people say it’s 2,000 miles from Tegucigalpa to Tempe or Phoenix in Arizona. But take your pick: 2,500, 2,000 miles versus 400 miles or 500. If you’re escaping absolute filth and horror, if you’re escaping poverty, if you’re escaping all these things, all you’ve gotta do is get to your neighbors and stop or maybe southern Mexico. But they’re not stopping anywhere. They are heading right to the United States. They’re blowing past Mexican police. They’re blowing past immigration officials.

It’s a microcosm of what’s happening every day in this country, this invasion of people that end up becoming illegal immigrants. There’s a lot of money behind this. Guatemala… Remember this? Trump said that if Guatemala and Honduras and El Salvador did not do their part in stopping this, that we were going to severely cut off or reduce massive foreign aid that we give them? Trump has tweeted, “Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador were not able to do the job of stopping people from leaving their country and coming illegally to the U.S. We will now begin cutting off, or substantially reducing, the massive foreign aid routinely given to them.”

Let me grab a phone call quickly. This is Steve in Gorman, California, and — da-da-da-da-da-da — after this I want to go up to line 2. Steve, great to have you. How are you doing, sir?

CALLER: Doing good. How are you, sir?

RUSH: Fine and dandy. Great to have you on the program today.

CALLER: Hey, great. I talked to your call screener, and what I see is public Democrat Party strategery because they had a problem in 2016. Not enough Hispanics came out and voted for Trump but they wanted them to. I’ve seen some stories they aren’t going to do it this time because of pocketbook issues. They’re making good money, taxes are lower, there’s jobs.

So if you park the whole thousands and thousands of people on that border and start running the stories you’re talking about where, “There’s suffering! There’s no food. There’s this and there’s that.” You’re looking at people who are kinsmen or countrymen, maybe extended nieces and nephews, and while you go to the polls that week beforehand you’re looking those news stories before they pull that level. I think they’re going to guilt them with their strong sense of family identity into coming back to the party, even though they know in their own interests they should vote Republican.

RUSH: Okay. All right. So let’s walk through this. If I understood you correctly, you think that this is a Democrat Party operation because the Democrats are having problems with Hispanic turnout. That happens to be true. It happens to be that more — and this is presidential approval polling numbers. Hispanics and African-Americans are rating Trump’s performance higher than anybody ever in their wildest dreams imagined it would be, and in preelection polls, the Hispanic vote is trending Republican more than anybody ever thought it would be. The Democrats are panicking over this.

So if you’re right, then what they’ve done is put together this caravan of Hispanics and Latinos, hoping to show how they are mistreated so that the Hispanics trending for Republicans will change their minds and not vote Republican because these people will not be allowed in. Where is it written…? Another pregunta: Where is it written that every Hispanic thinks like every other Hispanic? Where is it written that just because an Hispanic lives in the United States, that every other Hispanic ought to be allowed in?
Where’s it written? This is what identity politics gets us. This is what the Democrat Party and the American media alliance around identity politics gets us. Every female thinks identically alike. Every woman thinks the same. Every Hispanic. Take whatever demographic group you’re talking about, and they’re monolithic. So the caravan is designed to get some of the Hispanic vote tending toward Republican to change its mind. I guess it’s possible.

I think the design behind this is much broader than that. I think there’s several intentions here combined in this whole operation. And I think the Democrats are missing the mark again. As is the case with practically everything they do, it’s packed with deceit. There’s not a single thing up front, honest here. This whole thing is a manufactured event. It has to be. This could not… There’s no way this is spontaneous, especially for the express reasons that we’re being given.

“Well, they’re escaping poverty and filth and war.”

Well, we don’t have to go 2,500 miles to escape that, No. 1.

No. 2, they can’t legally apply for asylum in the United States because they’re supposed to do that in the first country they reach after escaping their own, and none of them are doing that. So it is clear that this is an invasion. It is clear that the purpose of this invasion is just one prong of a wide strategy to unwind the United States and transform it from the way it was founded. This is an invasion. This is an attack. This is an assault on the United States of America for the express purpose of transforming it into a gigantic welfare state that has Democrats and leftists in power in perpetuity.

That is the project that this caravan — or this mob — is participating in.

They’re not the whole ball of wax.

They’re just the latest incarnation of this attempt.

    BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Wilton, Wilton in Macon, Georgia. Great to have you with us on the EIB Network. Hi.

CALLER: Thanks for having me on, Rush. I appreciate it.

RUSH: You bet, Wilton. It’s great to have you hire.

CALLER: Thanks. The reason why I called, I spent all of the years in the military. I retired from the Marines, and although we are very good at a lot of things, we are not good at basically civilian type nonlethal warfare. We’ve gotten much better at it since Afghanistan and Iraq started, but that is one thing throughout the years we’ve not been good at. So this situation, and look, I’m 100% for putting the military on the border, but this one is perilous, and we have to be careful.

RUSH: Well, when you say the military’s not prepared for an invasion, you’re talking about… This is not a military invasion. You’re talking about a human wave invasion of people that largely are gonna be thought of as starving, thirsty, poverty stricken, this kind of thing, simply demanding a better life. (impression) “Oh, my God. Let us in please!” The military is not used to standing up to people like that, certainly not inflicting harm on them. Is that what you’re saying?

CALLER: Yeah. I think the difference is, you know, when it comes to lethality, we are very good at that. When it comes to less lethal, that’s just not something we do that well. We have individual units that are very good at it, but that wouldn’t be enough —

    RUSH: Okay, what about this.

    CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: What about just the presence, here’s U.S. military standing at the border, “You will not cross,” okay? What happens then if they do? And —

CALLER: Therein lies the problem. That’s the perilous part of the problem.

RUSH: Yeah, but you don’t use bullets. You don’t use bullets. What are the dummies called? I forget. You use some accuse force but not lethal.

CALLER: We have variety of different things to use, but, you know, all it takes is one person going down and squealing like a pig and then it’s over, you know, we just have to fold up. I don’t see anything good coming out of this, but the presence would be tremendous.

RUSH: But the presence would be… Okay. So there’s… You think the military showing up is… Let me just put words in your mouth and you tell me if I’m right or wrong in interpreting you. You think the military showing up is a lose-lose Proposition?

CALLER: No, I think initially it’s a great idea, but we have to be prepared for the next step.
RUSH: Well, but you say we can’t take the next step because the next step is not it can’t here as good at, they’re not used to it. Don’t know how to do it.

CALLER: Now that’s the peril. By all means we have to be prepared politically and militarily.

RUSH: Well, then what is it? What’s the preparation?

CALLER: We have to be prepared to use deadly force, I think.

RUSH: Okay. Well, let me give you a scenario, then.

    CALLER: Okay.

RUSH: And I’m just doing this in interest of time. It may sound insensitive and I don’t mean that. They hold the line, they hold the line, provide a visual presence, a visual obstruction. They send the signal, “Not welcome. Do not cross.” There will be constant warnings, but somebody does and they have to shoot one or two.

CALLER: We have to shoot one… And I’ll tell ya, I bet you’d see lot of people would fall in line, probably wouldn’t push the issue anymore. I’m talking about members of the immigrants, the illegal aliens, but we’d have to be prepared to take that one or two. It’s terrible, but that’s what it takes —

RUSH: You don’t think if one or two got hit that it would storm… Cause the mob to enrage, storm the military, just and essentially storm the bullets, storm the guns? You think they would ?cease and desist.

CALLER: I think they would cease and desist. I tell you, a lot of times tough guys have a tendency to fold up when they’re met with equal strength or more. We just have to —

RUSH: But even if there is a casualty or two, the Drive-Bys have their story: Trump, military fires on harmless unharmed, hopeless people.
    CALLER: And there’s the peril.

    RUSH: Yeah.

RUSH: Okay. So the alternativeis to let ’em in.

CALLER: No. No. Have to hold the line. Like I said, somebody’s… What is it the Democrats are always saying? “Somebody’s gotta take one for the team, be willing to lay their lives down.” Well let’s see. It’s unfortunate, but this is what they’re taking on by taking on this caravan.

RUSH: Okay. Right. So the responsibility for what happens to them has to be on them. You think the media is gonna allow that? This is… Look, I can’t start another thought ’cause I couldn’t finish it.

    BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: I know what you’re thinking, folks. If this last caller’s scenario happens and, if one of these mob members, particularly a child, would get harmed by any American military-clad officer, you would think: There’s gonna be hell to pay.

    BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Okay. Here’s what you do. If you don’t like sending the military down there, then we flood the zone with FEMA people. We send flatbeds. We send RVs. We send all kinds of people down there to register them and send them back. (interruption) No, no, no, no. Stick with me here. We offer to take care of the whole mob. We offer to feed them at the border, but they don’t get in. We offer to shelter ’em, and we process the heck out of ’em.
We make every damn form available. We make every member of the mob sign every required form. We flood zone with paperwork. We take photos and we take fingerprints. We get their identities and we document them for who they are. We don’t let them in, but we feed ’em and clothe ’em. We do everything we can to show our humanity except let them break the law! Then we put ’em on military vehicles or Airbus A380 and send ’em all back to where they came from.

If you don’t like the military presence, if you don’t like the military showing up in uniform, then let’s show them the compassion of the United States government. (interruption) You like that? Pfft! Why not? (interruption) You don’t like that? Why don’t you like that? (interruption) Okay, look, I understand that, but you don’t want the military showing up, and you don’t want the military firing any weapons at ’em, and you’re tired of processing them. So what do you want to do?

We can’t build the wall between now and then. I mean, if there’s ever anything that says, “Build the wall,” is this not it? (interruption) All right. I’m just trying to offer here an alternative. We had a military expert say, “We don’t… (sigh) The minute you hit one or two of them with any kind of weapon — even if it’s, you know, a water balloon — it’s bad optics.” I’m just trying to come up with a bad-optics situation.

Frankly, if there are 7,000 people there, there’s no amount of FEMA trucks, vans, forms or any of that that you could do. But at least make the effort. The thing is, this many people, if they get there, you know they’re not gonna stop. They’re just gonna keep overrunning. They’re gonna storm in, and Democrats are gonna be there to welcome them and get rid of them as soon as they can to foster families all over the country, which is what they’ve done with every migration of children the last three or four years.
