Anyone should go to protest. I'm not the type to appear in public, but I'll go with a sign that says IMPEACH! CRIMINAL HIDING BEHIND HUMAN SHIELDS! IMPEACH
Equality is the mutual respect for the boundaries between persons

Preparations underway for Obama’s Nashville visit

    WSMV-TV

Preparations are underway for President Barack Obama’s visit to Nashville.

Tuesday, Casa Azafran, a south Nashville community center, will host the president, who is expected to push his plan for immigration reform.

One woman will be listening very closely to what Obama has to say because she might hear her name.

Martha Lugo left Mexico more than 25 years ago. She has waited much of her adult life to become a U.S. citizen.

“I will feel so nervous really, first of all, but I will be happy,” Lugo said.

Obama will be speaking to a small group at Casa Azafran off of Nolensville Pike.

Last month, the president detailed an executive order that would allow undocumented immigrants who have lived in the U.S. for more than five years and are parents of legal residents to stay in the country for three years without fear of deportation.

Lugo would qualify for the plan because both of her daughters are U.S. citizens.

“I feel more calm and secure that I’ll be able to apply for a driver’s license and permit to work,” Lugo said. “But still, there have been a lot of people who deserve to benefit.”

Rashed Fakhruddin, president of the Islamic Center of Nashville, is already a U.S. citizen, but said he is honored to attend Tuesday’s speech.

“I’m very excited about meeting President Obama,” Fakhruddin said. “I mean, we are talking about the president of the United States. This is history and an exciting time.”

Fakhruddin said the congregation at the Islamic Center of Nashville knows the immigration process firsthand.

“Our mosque here at the Islamic Center of Nashville, we are represented by over 40 nationalities,” Fakhruddin said. “We have first-generation immigrants. We have second-generation immigrants.”

While Lugo doesn’t know if she’ll get to meet the president, she said she does have a message for him.

“I want him to know that we are going to be fighting for all the brothers and sisters that deserve to be here also,” she said. “If we organize all together and fight for the same cause, it will pay off.”

More than 140 Metro police officers will be assisting the Secret Service during Obama’s visit.

Drivers are advised that the president’s travels around Nashville will result in brief closures of roadways between Nashville International Airport and Nolensville Pike, north of Thompson Lane, between mid-afternoon and into the evening rush hour Tuesday.

Specific routes have not been disclosed for security reasons.
